My family and I flew England to attend my older son’s graduation ceremony in July 2019. As Austria was highly recommended by many friends and medias. We decided to add Austria to our trip and also to spend two night in Obertruan as it is close to the most beautiful village in the world, Hallstatt. So few months ago, I booked a 3-bedroom-apartment in Hotel Haus Am See in Obertruan via Booking.com for 2 nights (23rd July – 25th July 2019). I settled the full payment EUR848.44 by my credit card and charged. On 23rd July 2019, my family and I arrived the area near Hotel Haus Am See , we were unable to find the hotel. Therefore I called to the hotel for help and a man picked up the phone. I told him that I was nearby but I was unable to find the hotel and sought for his guidance. However, I was told by this man that I was too late as the check in time should be before 7pm. I immediately offered that we drove the car to his house or somewhere which was convenient for him, to pick up the keys, he refused. I entreated him to let my family and I check in as I was traveling with my aging parents and kids. It was late and all the hotels in that area were fully booked. He answered me ruthlessly “It is your problem, not mine”. Furthermore, he told me that I should not stay with his hotel on 24th July night neither and there would be no refund. Can you imagine how hopeless my family and I was in that moment? He left us with no choice, but searched for a hotel to stay for that night in a peak season. We drove from hotels to hotels for a few hours. At around 11pm, we finally found ourselves a hotel near Salzburg airport, to settle down. Otherwise my family and I would have to sleep over in the car. In the meantime, I also asked for Booking.com’s help, there were back and forth emails, but all booking.com wanted to say was nothing they could do to reinstate my room. On 24th July morning, I called to the hotel again and the same man picked up the phone. I told him that I would come to the hotel to check in and he insisted that he would not let us stay in his hotel. I had no choice but went to the police station to seek for help. The police called him and he told the police the same that he would not let us check in and he will take legal action. Racist or Knock-off? Austria is well known for its rich culture and beautiful scenery. I also think Austrian are friendly and well-educated in general but not until what we have experienced with this hotel. It completely ruined all the positive imagines that I have about Austria. Despite the rudeness, the way this hotel does business is no difference to fraud. I believe that I have fully paid the hotel room, they should keep the rooms for us for the whole two nights. I paid EUR848.44, was for spending a nice holiday with my family. For two nights, in a non-5-star hotel, it was not cheap indeed. What did I get from paying EUR848.44 was anger and despair. More importantly, it ruined our family holidays and our beautiful memory. In these two days, I spent all my time on asking for help from different parties, I didn’t even have time to enjoy the beautiful scenery in Hallstatt as we planned. I know mass tourism probably brings the hotels and the residences some negative impacts but my family and I just want to stay in the hotel that we paid for. The hotel is totally in breach of contract.…
Not a all recommended AT ALL. Very dissapointed with this hotel. No ammenities in the bathroom, no side bed table, no bath screen, poor breakfast. I would say more like a youth hostel than a hotel. In addition, staff very disagreeable. Views are nice, but so is everywhere in the region.…
We stayed with six friends for one night in transit in an independent house belonging to the Hotel. Furniture, beds, the two bathrooms and the kitchen equipment corresponds to an Austrian standard, which is to be expected at that price category. However the accommodation did not really meet our expectations. Firstly, the reception was already absent at 18:55 (if we even had arrived at 19:01, we would have had to pay a penalty of EUR 20, - for late arrival). At an indicated mobile number, however, we reached the manager of the hotel, who after about 15 Minutes has sent a taxi driver - so far so good. The guy drove us to an older house.- surprisingly 25 minutes away (walking distance) from the main hotel, the lake and the the center, which belongs to the Hotel. The first impression of this side-accommodation was however quite upsetting: A neglected garden with completely worn, aged garden furniture. After closer inspection, we even found disgusting garbage in the drawers. Only one towel per guest and a list general housekeeping shortcomings did not make the impression any better. At the check-out, we addressed the deficiencies in a moderate tone to the lady in charge, soon appeared the hotel manager, who asked how we ever can raise such a complaint putting his accommodation in such a negative light followed by a number of insults questioning if we are right in our head.... Now we also understood the spirit of the house rules sent a few days before our arrival by e-mail, containing some weird rules like the prohibition to light candles on the balcony, etc. with threatened fines up to EUR 250, - - per offense understood. Apparently the guest is in this Hotel is seen as a continuous troublemaker. Being a manager of a larger company, I strongly advise the Hotel management to attend a seminar for customer care - I am happy to help with the search for a suitable institute....…
The bathroom is so tiny you can hardly turn your body. In fact, once the bathroom room door closed. My butt literary is on it. Parking was not free. We arrived at 4.30 pm and not a soul at or near the hotel lobby. We would have to make international call the owner to get the room key lock key code. They stated they will stay 6 pm. Never received any email notification for early closing time nor how to get the room key from key box. You sure can try your luck on this place. It could be the number game, but I had traveled lots places but only gave few one star reviews.…
