We visited the Clube Alvorférias during the long weekend of October. As we knew we’d be arriving very late, we called in advance to check how to deal with the situation. The employee was cordial and found a solution to leave us the key to the apartment. On arrival we noticed that the room was clean and spacious but the bedding and the towels were a bit tattered and in fact had been sewed / darned / mended. The water boiler worked well but if two people shower twice in a day, it quickly run out of hot water. Because it was the long weekend there was no cleaning service to the apartment, meaning that the towels were never changed during our 3 night stay and remained damp from one day to the other. We then found a broken corkscrew in the kitchen and, as we needed it, we requested a useable one at the reception. They said they would have one brought to the room by the end of the day, but they never did.
Overall, the accommodation was suitable and clean but the place needs a bit of a revamp as everything is a bit outdated and tattered, including installing double windows as the noise of passing cars and people coming from the outside was extremely loud, particularly as our room faced the main street . Also, be prepared for a lot of light coming in the morning as only 2 of the 3 large windows had blackout curtains installed.

We stayed here in 2016 and again from 31/08/2020 for 1 week
We had apartment 2629 one bedroom
These apartments are dated but ours was clean and comfortable, the self catering accessories were great there was everything you'd need to cook for yourselves, we only used the kettle as we ate out for all meals. Staff are nice and the pool area is very good

Bad points
We didn't have any hot water or electric in the kitchen for the 1st 24 hours, it took 2 trips to reception to get it sorted
The maid service is minimal we didn't have beds or towels changed.

We would return due to the price we paid and the location.

We came with expectations of the apartments being a derelict cesspit of grime… but we were very pleasantly surprised. The lady on reception was helpful, we stored our luggage and headed out to the pool for a few hours before checkin, we prepared a bag prior to coming with swimwear, towels, sun cream and books etc, even brought our own fold out sun beds, we read the reviews of no sun beds and dirty pools… to an extent this is true. We didn’t see anyone queuing but people would place towels on their beds then go get breakfast, we didn’t see anything wrong with this at all as they all then went to their beds for the day. In the afternoon there are always beds spare and people offering their beds to you if they are leaving. The pool is clean and large enough for everyone, inflatables allowed. Jasmine, honeysuckle and avocado trees surround the pool and in the evening the smell is amazing.
We had a 2 bed apartment over the shop, it was huge! 2 huge bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and large bathroom. We had our room cleaned 3 times in 10 days with fresh towels, if you want your bed changed just take off your sheets and put them by the door. There were lots of ants but this was our fault for having food out! Some cleaning and salt soon sorted that out. There is a cockerel in a farm across the way, this little sod will wake you up at 4am if you are sleeping poolside, by morning 8 it was driving me insane but no fault of the hotels of course.
The hotel doesn’t have entertainment, we didn’t care about this, they did offer lots of excursions. We did a cave tour, a boat tour to Silves, splash and slide and a few trips to Portimao (the main town) we got Ubers everywhere, they are cheap and easy.
The beach is stunning, all of them, Sandy and gorgeous clear seas. Our daughter did get stung by a spider fish, this is very common so bring water shoes!! The locals do!
These apartments are rough and ready, for the price they are spot on, if you want luxury then there is a 5 star across the road. Go prepared, accept you booked a cheap 3 star and have a good time in the amazing Portuguese sun.

We booked along with friend's in June 2022 to go to Alvor. We booked with Tui, on the online site it clearly stated that there was evening entertainment and a free shuttle bus to the beach. Neither of these were present. During our two weeks, there was one night of a Barbecue and mini disco at €16 per person. We did not attend.

This was our second visit to Alvor and whilst Alvor has lots to offer, nice beach good food and drinks at reasonable prices. This resort of the AlvorFerias is not our idea of a good holiday.
This resort is probably best suited for couples/parents with young children.

We arrived at 11 am on a Sunday morning and were told that we couldn't have our room until 4pm. We were given information which stated clean towels would be provided in your room every 4 days, it was 6 days before the first change of towels. Insufficient supply of toilet rolls, you were lucky to have 1 left on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The beds were uncomfortably hard.

Our first morning Monday, we went to the pool at 8.20am the pool attendant who was cleaning the pool said it was OK for us to come in. Within 2 minutes a woman ( a member of staff) was shouting aggressively at the young pool attendant, she was a good 15 feet away from him and from us, from the tone of her voice and her body language she was telling him off. When she had finished with him she then started shouting at us, holding up her fingers to indicate 9. We left and returned at 8.53 am only to find not 1 bed available.

I made a complaint to the Tui rep about the unprofessional conduct of the staff member who was verbally abusive and the pool rules that clearly were not rigid rules as 8.53 is not 9 no more than 8.20 is. No apology from the staff member.

Pool rules also say no diving, no balls in the pool, no reservation of a sunbed but these were totally not rules at all. Which of course are silly rules in any event when children are playing in water.

In order to get a sunbed you needed to be queuing at the gate from 8.10 am until 9 am so that you stood some chance of getting a bed to lie on. The majority would secure their bed by putting their towels on, then left to go and have their breakfast etc . Clearly insufficient pool sun beds for the amount of guests.

This is not a place that we would recommend and certainly will not return to.

I honestly don’t know why this place gets such bad reviews. We paid €256 for 5 nights in a 1 bed apartment. It was spotless (small few ants), great location, we had a cleaner in once who changed sheets and towels. It has two pools, lots of beds and a pool bar, the staff were so nice from pool bar to reception and cleaning. Hope it stays open. Yes it’s outdated but the pictures are what you pay for. Really enjoyed the stay and if I went back to Alvor I’d stay again

Visited half term family of 4.
I could not fault the hotel hence the score of 5. We opted for a 2 bedroom apartment that was huge with everything we needed. The apartment is an older style but the shutters on the windows meant we felt we safe, the beds were comfy and the Juliet balconies were a nice touch.
The staff at the hotel are all friendly and helpful. The pool bar is reasonably priced and the pool had plenty of beds and is a good size.
There is a supermarket on site but it is a little expensive, luckily there are 2 supermarkets within a 10-15 minute walk away and we were able to pick up everything we needed.
The town and beach are about a 20 minute walk, you could easily Uber it but we chose to walk.
This isn’t a 5 star resort but it isn’t priced as one either. I’ve scored this on value for money and on how much I enjoyed my stay. I have stopped at much more expensive hotels that I wouldn’t return to.
I loved Alvor and Portugal and will 100% return

If you want loud live entertainment 9pm-11pm which can be heard from your room, happy to battle to reserve sunbeds and beers, cheap tasting food by the pool, this is the place for you. But it wasn't the place for us.

Firstly we arrived at 2pm at reception and the manage at the desk was very blunt and unfriendly. We were not able to check in until 4pm and not a minute earlier. Our room was directly above reception opposite the pool (and live evening entertainment). The pool was nice but people queued at 9am to reserve a sunbed (which wasn't allowed but still happened). The staff at the poolside bar were again very unfriendly and unhelpful.

The room itself was clean but these were the problems we had with it:
Fridge leaked on the first day
No matches to light hobs
No cooking trays (we went self catered)
Front door doesn't lock from inside (unsafe with toddlers)
No blind/curtain over kitchen balcony door (everyone walk past, look into opposite apartment).
Broken bathroom shelf
No drain plug for the bath or kitchen sink
Have to pay for hair dryer daily and a high chair.

The loud entertainment was too much for our toddler to be able to sleep so we asked if anything could be done. We were told very bluntly no, end of conversation. Thankfully we booked through Jet2 and our rep was fantastic and she fought for our room to be changed. When we could finally change we had to pay 50 euro (managed to reduce to 30) for cleaning charge. We packed, got new keys, unloaded car, and the keys didn't work.

The location of the resort wasn't a problem for us as we had a car. Yes you could do a 20 minute walk to the restaurants but it was along a very busy dual carriageway (not suitable with a toddler).

From this holiday we have learnt to spend a bit more to get a holiday we will actually enjoy!

Excellent stay, we had a large one bed apartment over the bridge, three balconies all with a sea view, many reviews about dated furniture, but to be honest as we are not interior designers all we care about is the drawers and wardrobes open and close, which they did, basic housekeeping three times a week, which we expected as we understood that when you stay here you are not staying in a hotel, but renting an apartment, towels changed three times over a ten night stay, which we did not find to be an inconvenience, whole complex is beautifully landscaped and clean as was the pool area.
To address some of the major complaints on here,
No lifts lots of steps, information that was readily available on TA, so we knew before booking.
No shuttle bus to the beach, our travel company's website clearly stated this.
No entertainment, once again our travel company's website clearly stated this.
Ants in the room, the ants in question are so tiny as to not be a problem, and as far as I know represent no threat to life and limb.
All the staff we met where friendly and had a better command of English then we had of Portuguese.
All I can say is if you are looking for a good value place to stay, that is in easy reach of the resort or beach come here, but do your research first, don't expect a five star complex for three star prices, and you should have a great stay just like us.

I’m not sure where to even begin. Upon booking, the hotel/apartment was notified that my mum was disabled - so we needed a disabled friendly room, to which we were assured we would get. Upon receiving our room number, we soon realised we were on the first floor, with no lift to access for my mum. There were steps everywhere, so again no disabled access. On the second evening, due to their being no bath rail, my mum slipped when getting out of the bath and cracked her head open; resulting in a trip to the hospital - the receptionist did not care nor provide us with fresh towels as our ones were covered in blood from the fall. The restaurant, if you may call it that, is also up a steep set of stairs which made it difficult for my mum to get up for breakfast as everyone was qued on the side of the stairs where the handrail was. To get a sunbed, you have to que at 7.30am as they only open the gates at 9am. Food in the eve is also disgusting. Bar staff can be rude, however there was a man (seemed like a manager) and young girl with brown curly hair who were lovely - lady with blonde hair behind the bar was nothing but rude. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, unless you feel the need to waste your money!

We were in a three bedroom apartment over the bridge, which had a main bathroom and an ensuite. Full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, full size fridge and oven. our apartment had its own WiFi hub so great internet connection, The apartments are serviced Mon Wed Fri,with fresh towels every 4 days, these are apartments not a hotel so no daily maid service. There are plenty of two pin plugs sockets but no usb connections. Apartments have electric blinds over all the windows and tiled floors so nice and cool, but there is a/c in master bedroom and lounge. Good shower pressure and plenty of hot water. The complex has two lovely deep pools, we prefer the one over the bridge as many of the sun loungers do need replacing / upgrading but there is plenty of grass around to sit on so wasn't an issue for us. It's a great base to explore Alvor, not a five star hotel but good practical spacious apartments, at a value for money price. Our apartment was lovely and clean modern and spacious, no complaints here.

Depending on how bad your mobility issues are, I really cannot recommend this accommodation for you, lots of steps and stairs, plus the Accommodation is on a hill, so you would need a Taxi to get into and back from the Town Centre. Other than that it's an excellent budget friendly place to stay.
