Stayed in February, 2005. 4 week deal with Saga. A number of the guests had stayed there before. It is a good vitually new hotel.
However the standard of the food had declined, from being good to being average. A number of the british guests were unimpressed with the quality of the food.
The hotel is kept in a spotless condition. There is an outside pool and sun terrace.
The hotel took in a number of Spanish Guests over the weekend, and the mood of the hotel changed to cater for its home guests.
There are a handfull of bars open in the winter in the area, but it is a quiet resort in the winter. Busses operate on an hourly service to Cartegena and then to Mercia.
If you stay for more than 2 weeks then the food does become an important issue.
Its about 80 mins by coach from Alicante Airport.

We stayed here on a flying visit at the beginning of February, when you expect a hotel to be pretty empty; I think there were only 2 other people staying then! However, we booked to spend a week here lately whilst working on our newly acquired holiday home, and to my surprise, it was again virtually empty! For 2 days I was the only one around the pool. However, the staff were very obliging and kind. We had a lovely clean room with a beautiful view, so I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. One thing I would like to point out though is that the food is definitely not of 4 star quality, nor are the sun-loungers, many of which were broken! It is a good base for exploring all that La Manga has to offer, especially if you hire a car.

A bit difficult to get to but easily spotted from the road. all maps show you can turn left off the carriageway but infact you have to travel to a form of roundabout a mile up the strip to be able to come back and do a right.tip watch for the sign posts they will help. The hotel itself is very grand on entry to reception, parking is outside (keep off yellow area's though) and also the hotel has underground parking area's that a charge is made for. Wireless is free with a password from reception. The reception staff were lovely and helpfully nothing was to much trouble. Drinks were priced as hotel drinks are but with loads of options just a short walk away no problem. The pool was lovely. The rooms clean well presented and curtosy water provided. breakfast was all you could wish for and opened at 7.45. Which is good. All in all a great location and you are spoilt for choice for beaches to swim from if you got kids great if not enjoy the tranquility yourself as they are far from busy.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. It was an excellent hotel with definitely no complaints. Rooms were cleaned every day, The food was very nice and reception and waiter/bar attendants very nice. The hotel had a beautiful swimming pool which was maintained to the highest standards.
There were people on a saga holiday and we were able to enjoy their nightly entertainment in the hotel, even though our ages are in the 40's and not over 50's that cater for saga holiday makers. The hotel was near the beautiful sandy beach and the water was crystal clear and clean. Weather was beautiful and we were out and about every day. Resort itself was very quiet at that time of the year. Nice relaxing holiday and would definitely recommend the Las Gaviotas Hotel for people to stay.

This Hotel is in a perfect position with beaches either side 5 mins walk away, you have the lagoon on one side and the med on the other.
The rooms are really bright and well set out with a balcony and a fab view (ask for the upper floors) It has a lovely outdoor pool which even in July had plenty of sunbeds free.
The staff are really friendly and helpful and the food is very good quality. I have stayed here before in the off season and thought it was nice then. There are not many hotels in the area but I think this is one of the best, we will be back soon.

How much thought did I put into choosing this hotel? Next to nothing. I'll explain. I had booked another hotel and found out, with two days to go, that it had yet to open for the season. With flights and rental car booked, I was in a panic to find another hotel. This fit the bill because it was in the right location, at the right price and it had a room available.

Wow! This is a great hotel. It is large but it feels small. It is in a perfect location - minutes walk to Mar Menor and to the Med, bars, restaurants and shops. It has parking around, a paid parking facility, near the bus stop, near taxis and 40 minutes drive from the nearest airport.

My room? I never thought I would miss a hotel room, but I will miss this one! Spacious, spotless, room with a double bed, great strorage, a gorgeous balcony and a massive bathroom! (a couple more channels in English would have been welcome though). The room has air conditioning but I switched it off as I hate the sound at night. The room also has a fridge which is a plus as well as a minus. A plus in that I had a store of cold drinks which was wonderful in the hot weather and a minus in that it woke me up a couple of times each night. Having access to cold drinks won out though!

The pool area is small and perfectly maintained. Great quality of sun loungers and umbrellas. It opens only between 10.30am to 8.30pm. I was a bit peeved when I saw these times but it makes perfect sense as the sun is in the area during those times. There are three showers and a hot tub. The pool is really pleasant to swim in.

The pool area also has a bar/cafe facility which is open all day. I sat there at night and could see the amazing sunset on the Mar Menor.

I booked 'all inclusive' because the deal was too good to refuse. I presumed that I would eat there for breakfast and lunch but venture out for dinner. I ate in the hotel every meal time. The opening times are just perfect - with dinner served up until 10.30pm, I could still eat at the hotel even when I had been out all day.

I chose to eat at the hotel - not merely because of the times but the selection. The team of chefs did everything to meet all culinary tastes and the choice was fab. At some meals, there was also a chef on the floor cooking omeletes or toasted sandwiches or sweet crepes or portioning a whole salmon cooked in salt. Paella was served at each lunch and it was very tasty indeed. I even got to sample my first chocolate fountain. Food served at lunch and dinner is also different. Real thought goes into the preparation and choice of dishes.

The bar is open until 12.30am. All inclusive drinks finish at 11 but if you want to pay, you can continue to order. This is a real plus. I have stayed in other places where the bar and all inclusive finish at 11 so you can't even get a bottle of water after this.

Any lowpoints? I like to read. There was (loud) entertainment each night with someone playing music. The only place I could escape to was my room (where I could still hear it) or off site. This is my own personal bugbear but it would have been nice to escape it. On one particular night, I had no option but to go straight to my room after dinner, it was that loud.

And the highpoints? The staff. The whole place smacks of professionalism and commitment to standards. The attention to detail observed by so many staff members was stunning. These feel like career professionals, not merely seasonal staff. Everyone I met was exceptional. As a solo traveller, I wondered would I feel odd but I was made so welcome that I would actually holiday alone again!

We checked into this hotel last night and have been more than pleasantly surprised. We have a junior suite, en-suite walk-in shower room, air conditioning, a huge very comfortable bed, double leather sofa bed, two balconies with lovely views. The staff have been extremely helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for us, even providing extra pillows and an extension cable for my CPAP machine (I have sleep apnoea). The rate was half that of another hotel further up the coast. Breakfast was a great spread of choice: continental buffet or sausage, bacon & eggs, cereal, fruit etc or a bit of everything. Swimming pool is clear and clean, plenty of beds and brollies. Can't fault any of it. Would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely come back.

A pleasant, smallish (approx. 90 rooms on 8 floors) hotel on the La Manga del Mar Menor with splendid views of both the Mediterranean and Mar Menor (Spanish "dead sea"). It is the location - a short walk (approx. 200 metres) from the hotel to both seas which made us chose the hotel. And we were not disappointed. The hotel's décor is modern and airy. The rooms are clean, have flat screen TV, the many channels available include BBC World, a free safe, a large fridge and wifi. The bathroom has a bath tub with a shower attachment, WC and bidet, a large mirror over the washbasin, enough hooks for towels. There is an outdoor pool with a terrace with sun loungers (on artificial grass). The buffet-style restaurant offers although a bit limited choice but reasonable quality dishes at lunchtime and dinner time - there is a salad bar and usually at least 2 meat and 2 fish dishes, paella, pasta dishes and selection of side dishes and a good selection of puddings (our favourite was pears in red wine), small cakes, ice cream and fresh fruit. The local wine (we liked the red best) served with meals is of good quality. However, breakfast is not very exciting - drinks - juice (far too sweet) and coffee, tea an cocoa all come from a machine, sort of ok. There are cold meats, some cheese, bacon and eggs, beaked beans, cereals and yogurts, fresh fruit, bread rolls and pastries - much the same every day. There are not many shops near the hotel but enough to buy drinks and snacks. Larger shops and supermarkets are 1 or 2 stops on a bus or some 15 minute walk (along the beach is the more pleasant way than on the road). The bus stop a short walk from the hotel outside the hotel Los Delfines, which is next door. Unfortunatelly the buses are not very frequent (every 45 min), but the flat rate 1.15 euro is a good value and thus the bus a good way to travel along the 20 km of La Manga.

Stayed at this hotel with a group of friends for 3 nights. Location of the hotel is set back from the main road, glad we had a driver to find it for us! Not much around the hotel (bars on the beachfront), was quiet when we visited, not sure if due to time of year or recession. All staff at the hotel very friendly, from the Reception staff through to restaurant and bar staff (especially Juan who poured some great drinks!). Think the hotel has had a bit of a refit as everything looked new, rooms were spotless. We were on the corner of the 3rd floor so our balcony view looked one way to the sea and the other to the salt lakes. TV and fridge in room. Have to say the beds were REALLY comfortable - best hotel beds I've slept in for a long time! Stayed on B&B basis, food in the restaurant was good, plenty of choice at breakfast. Ate one lunch in the hotel which was buffet style - lots of choice and only 15 euro per person including wine which we thought was great value. Mainly Spanish guests. Pool area was nice, pool very clean and some comfy loungers. Only 5 mins walk to the beach. Would stay again if in the area.
