Our trip:
We are a family of four who needed a place to break our trip as we were visiting the Highland Wildlife Park, the Highland Folk Museum and the Zip Trek Adventure.

The hosts:
They have owned the hotel for twenty years and the love they have for the place shows. They were attentive, friendly and keen to help.

The rooms:
The beds were amazing. At the end of a long day you need to relax into a comfortable bed and these were honestly the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. All of us work up rested and refreshed.

The shower was hot and powerful enough with a wall-mounted soap dispenser and was lovely. No water splashes on the floor as the cubicle closed completely.

The kettle and drink-making facilities included drinking chocolate (the kids were happy) and decaffeinated coffee (I was happy) and biscuits.

There were 240v sockets for charging up devices although a couple of sockets by the bed would have been nice.

The food:
We ate an evening meal and breakfast with them and we were happy on both occasions. They came up with suggestions to adapt existing meals and provided toast until we were fit to burst. They also asked my opinion on a new vegan sausage that they were trialling.

Even better if:
I don’t like finding faults but I felt the toilet flush was a little under-powered. I will leave it there… although I obviously didn’t.

Room Tip: Only two sockets in the room but that’s probably enough for most people.

This was our second visit to this hotel and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
The bedrooms are spacious, superbly clean and the beds are super comfy.
We ate here both nights of our stay, I liked the fact that the landlady informs all diners of the rules regarding wearing of face masks when moving around as this leaves no one in any doubt of the rules.
The food was really enjoyable on both evenings, the service was friendly and efficient .
I really enjoyed the breakfast experience, it is such a good idea for diners to select their breakfast items from a tick list as it ensures you get exactly what you want and the waiter Dave delivered the breakfasts with a smile and despite being busy always enquried what plans you had for the day.
Definitely will be back.

Had a 2 night stay here and loved it. The bed was comfy, room was large with new furniture and the bathroom had a shower over the bath. No view, but we knew that before we booked. The staff were all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

The food was outstanding (especially the chips!!) with good honest food, lovely and tasty and enough of it. I have 3 allergies and they helped so much but the food generally didn't have to be tweaked anyway. I had the venison stew which is normally made with gluten free ale. Allergy wise, this is the most relaxed and comfortable I have felt staying away and eating out.

Their covid systems were well organised and adhered to.

Would definately recommend.

If tourism and hospitality want to recover, then lady behind the bar on Saturday 4 September should be fired.

I was one person, and quite clear that I would eat at 6pm (the earliest allowed), and not be more than an hour. The only seat offered in the restaurant was right next to a large noisy table, who were the only other customers. It was awkward for me and them, so I asked to sit in the completely empty bar area instead, so that I could relax with a book and a pint over my tea.

Reluctantly, the waiter first said no I can’t be moved because tables have been allocated. He then did request a move which was obviously an issue. I was moved to a table for 1 right in the middle of the bar floor, and right in the doorway, despite the rest of the pub being completely empty. If you’ve ever been in a restaurant as a solo cover, this is simply uncomfortable and not a pleasant place to sit.

I was told no other tables were allowed to be used because it’s a busy night and tables are allocated, but there was no obvious reason why other people coming later could not be allocated to the table I was given, so that I could sit alongside a wall. The lady behind the bar then outrightly shouted at me for asking why I was not allowed to choose where I sat out of the 10 or so empty tables. It was clearly unreasonable to make the simple request of a comfortable place to sit. She was very rude, and wrapped me over the knuckles for having touched 2 tables which would have to be sanitised.

I left without spending a penny, and when I walked past an hour later on my way home the busy bar area with plenty of suitable tables remained empty.

The lady behind the bar’s inability to see me as a human, let alone a paying customer, meant you lost my business which would likely have amounted to a few hundred pounds over the duration of my holiday. It takes roughly 15 seconds to sanitise a small table, and I would have done it myself if it meant I could just have tea in a comfortable place.

The lady behind the bar is a liability, and I will not recommend your hotel or restaurant to anybody in my social circles or within my professional network in the travel industry on the basis of the customer experience she alone created.

When we arrived we were greeted by a welcoming member of front of house who showed us to our tables (we were a party of seven so had to sit on separate tables which wasn't a problem). I ordered the haggis from the main menu and informed the server of my food allergy and asked specifically for the whiskey sauce to be in a side dish. My friend ordered a steak medium rare and the server checked our orders before putting it through. My haggis was served with the sauce in the main dish, when I pointed this out I felt very awkward and the server (not FoH server) was not accommodating despite the fact that I had informed them about my food allergy. My friend's steak was well done and asked politely for a new one medium rare. The two dishes were brought as ordered and the food was delicious however, the female member of staff who gave us our bill was rude and passive aggressive. There was an issue with the card machine as she had pressed the wrong button and instead of making a sale it went through as a pre authorisation. After an intense lecture about the pre authorisation process (which was her fault) we got everything paid for. One of our party paid in cash, left the money on the table and went to the bathroom. Then the female member of staff then accused the person in our party of not paying and was extremely rude when it was pointed out to her that the money was on the table. Would not recommend this place for the service, particularly if you have any food allergies as mine was clearly not communicated. I was made to feel that it was my fault for asking a very simple request due to a food allergy. Poor service overall apart from the FoH waiter.

We initially only popped along for drinks but ended up booking a table for dinner. The staff were a bit of a hit and miss, the older gentleman was a bit rude and brought us the wrong bottle of wine for dinner along with a dirty wine glass. The slightly younger gentleman was very friendly and welcoming. After bringing the dirty glass to the attention of the staff they poured the wine from a dirty glass into a clean glass rather than dumping it and bringing a fresh glass of wine which was a bit of a red flag. Most of the food was received well although my meal wasn't great and was something I'd have expected from a wetherspoons. We paid cash for the meal but the rude gentlemen never did return with our change, despite the fact we were sat finishing our wine for a while after he collected the money. For the prices they charge I'd have expected the food to be much higher quality and the staff to be a lot more welcoming to paying guests.

Thank you for taking time to place a review. Although I personally did not serve this table I was on the bar that evening and am well acquainted with the 'wine' incident. Our glasses are washed in a commercial glass washer and with the current Covid pandemic I have had the operating temperature turned up in order to 'sterilise' the glasses so much so they cannot be touched when they come out. Occasionally this results in a water mark being left on some glasses which we polish out. This glass was missed on this occasion. As this was only a water mark we did transfer the wine to a fresh, polished glass. However, when the guest requested a fresh glass of wine this was replaced without question. We are unable to comment with regards to the reviewers meal as nothing was brought to our attention at the time of the meal/visit although we have noted that the rest of the tables meals were 'well received'.

As we were staying at a B and B just along the road on the last night of our holiday we decided to eat here. My partner and I both had the pâté as a starter which was ok but nothing startling. For mains my partner ordered the spicy burger which he said was good. I ordered a medium sirloin with no chips or potatoes but asked for extra veg which staff said was not a problem. My medium steak was raw in places and the fat not rendered down and had gristle in it. My extra veg consisted of a salad which was fine but hardly startling. I did complain about the steak I left , which to be fare was just along the fat line and as a result £5 was deducted of the bill. Mediocre meal. Would not recommend.

The Glen Hotel is ideally situated to enjoy the central Highlands, we spent three nights there, allowing us to explore Aviemore, The Highland Wildlife Park, Cairngorm, Loch an Eilan, Grantown-on-Spey on Spey and much more.

The staff run the hotel like a military machine, constant attention to the needs for covid awareness without being intrusive. No need to try and catch a waiters eye, table service efficient and swift, the food superb

Highly Recommended

Firstly I don’t believe in writing negative reviews for the sake of it especially given recently global events and the difficulty the hospitality industry has been through.

However.

Tonight we made the journey from Aviemore as when we visited the hotel last week it looked better than what was on offer up by.

Everything was fine until near the end of my wife’s veggie burger she encountered a completely inedible section.

Then our troubles started. The female on duty dismissed it as ‘you got the concrete end then’.

Not a word of apology.

When we went to pay I had to point out our meal was less than satisfactory and only then did she reluctantly agree to deduct 10% from the bill adding ‘you ate most of it’.

Despite me pointing out had my wife encountered the inedible section at first she would have sent it back immediately and whether she ate all or nothing we had a less than satisfactory experience and the offending item should not be charged.

This cut no ice and the person who I presume was the owner waded in by saying ‘we’ll cook you another one!

By now we wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible.

Should you visit this establishment I hope you have a satisfactory experience, should you not don’t expect a word of apology or any form of acceptance.

I’m sorry but the lady in question is an embarrassment to the hospitality industry- if there’s a problem take ownership and ensure the paying customer leaves feeling the problem was taken seriously and resolved to all parties satisfaction.

Otherwise, find another career.

A huge thanks to The Glen and the AMAZING STAFF for 2 flawless visits for food during our annual holiday in Newtonmore. The food as ever was amazing and great for adults and children alike. What was exceptional this year was the attention to detail and care taken with everyone's safety whilst we were there. So safe and enjoyable we went back for a 2nd time. Really enjoyable!!! I would also like to make a special mention for the very kind member of staff who noted my daughter's cuddly polar bear and proceeded to show us some pictures and tell us of his time looking after baby Hamish at the Highland Wildlife Park, it made a young lady very happy...a class gentleman!!!
