The Bridge Hotel & Spa garners appreciation for its prime location in England and its welcoming atmosphere. Cleanliness is a standout feature, with numerous guests commending the spotless rooms and tidy facilities. While the service receives accolades for the staff's friendliness, there are occasional mentions of sluggish service and spa management concerns. Room experiences vary, with comfort and cleanliness being praised, yet some guests find issues with maintenance. The amenities, including the spa, satisfy many, though some feel updates are necessary. Opinions on value are split, with some guests celebrating the affordability and others questioning the pricing.

First time staying at the Bridge Hotel and it is unfortunately likely to be our last. We booked for a bubbly spa break for my birthday. On arrival the lady on reception was lovely and talked us through where everything was. We were very early so went to the bar which was a really nice area. We spent a few hours in the spa which was smaller than I expected but was pleasant. The staff in there were fabulous. The changing rooms are tiny and can fit maybe 5 in them at any one time and not much privacy, particularly if you use the showers. We were given a glass of fizz and given the details of what the spa had to offer. The afternoon tea was also lovely. The sandwiches were fresh and the scones were gorgeous. The only downside was that there was nowhere to sit inside because it was so busy with other guests so we had to sit in the courtyard. Fortunately the weather was pleasant so we were happy to do this.
Our room (no 27) was not the best we’ve stayed in. The vanity light in the bedroom area didn’t work. The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever slept in. It was like sleeping on bricks. The pillows were the same. To top it off we found a clump of fake eyelashes in the bed and on the side of the bath which was pretty grim. A little TLC was needed in the bathroom as paint was peeling off the ceiling, the basin was cracked, and the shelf under the mirror was falling to bits and in desperate need of replacing. Our room had sloping roof either side of the window. Fortunately neither of us are the tallest of people so it wasn’t as much of an issue as it would be for someone taller. We could also hear the boiler from this room switching on and off throughout the stay. Take ear plugs if you want to sleep. We had a 2 course carvery in our package which wasn’t the nicest we’ve had. The breakfast was good with plenty of options to choose from.
One other thing, on signing up to the Bridge Hotel, the states  If you are celebrating your birthday then ‘sign up to our newsletter to receive acomplimentary bottle of Pommery Champagne. We’ll provide you with a complementary bottle to enjoy in our Bar or Restaurant to enjoy at the hotel within 14 days of your birthday’. I had forgotten about it until talking to another guest who was there for a birthday celebration and they mentioned that they had not received it even though they had mentioned they were there for a birthday. Don’t advertise something you are not going to give.
We regularly have nights away throughout the year and this is a hotel so have wanted to stay at for a while so we were a little disappointed, particularly as it was a night away for my birthday.
Unfortunately there are more negatives to my review than positives which I really don’t like doing but when people are paying hard earned money for a stay or package they need to know the full details. Although I would wouldn’t stay here again, I would say if you are staying then don’t bother eating there unless you’re prepared to pay for the upgraded menu, upgrade your room to one that you can walk around without having to crouch down in certain areas and asked to be in a room away from the boiler noise.

Room only £150 through Booking.Com, about £20 cheaper than hotel website. Awful tiny attic type room, had to walked around stooped to avoid head injury. Comfortable beds, bathroom with bath tub, plenty of hot water, take your own soap, shower gel & shampoo (miniscule amount supplied).
Carvery dinner was good, 2 courses for £21.50.
Ordered a btl of Malbec wine off the specials list £24.50, paid by card, unfortunately didn't check until we'd opened it. We'd been charged £36.50, queried the price. The manager came & stated they didn't have the one we requested. Surely, we should have been told & offered the more expensive wine, which we would have refused. Why advertise a wine that isn't available? Apologies but you've had some of the wine & no refund offered for their mistake. I think the bar staff need a bit more training.
Restaurant staff & reception staff very pleasant.
A nasty foisty smell along passage & in our room, also a bit in lounge, as if they've had a water leak & carpets need replacing. Will not be going back

The description on hotel’s website … ‘The Courtyard Spa at the Bridge Hotel and Spa has the most up to date spa facilities in York, Harrogate, Leeds & across West Yorkshire!’ … completely untrue and I think that they need to either rethink their website or update their spa facilities! The staff were lovely but the facilities are very outdated and definitely not ‘luxury’ spa. The ladies changing room ceiling was leaking, with one of the light fittings removed and replaced with polythene, which you could see was full of water. The Japanese Foot spa did not have hot water, the jets were minimal and the water drained away. The ice fountain was obviously not working as, instead of ice flakes they describe, there was lumps of ice in the basin. The hot tubs do not allow ‘delightful views of the countryside’.
We also had afternoon tea which was very unimpressive with frozen miniature cakes and scones and sausage rolls that looked like a cheap supermarket option. Tea and coffee were nice though. Would not rush back.

Great first impression of the hotel. Best check in for a long time, friendly and efficient. Told us all the information we needed to know without waffling.

Rooms are decent size, spotlessly clean and have everything you need. Lovely welcome tray including wine and Pringles, nice surprise to have a Nespresso machine, though the pods didn’t get replenished lol. Big plus for a July stay that there is a really good fan in every room.

Restaurant and bar area are good, food was delicious but a little pricey. Can’t fault the service, staff are welcoming and friendly without being overbearing or irritating. Lovely outdoor seating areas. We had breakfast one morning - the only let down of our stay. The hot food had all been sat out in the open for too long, and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen pre cooked toast at a hotel breakfast! Just a pile sat there to help yourself so it was cold and a bit stale.
We had booked a spa package but that was a bit disappointing - very expensive for the available facilities which are limited. Would hate to be there on a busy day as you would spend all your time waiting. We were looking forward to trying the new massage chairs but at an extra £25 per person we didn’t bother. Would be a good idea to offer hotel guests discounted rates for the spa or treatments.
Dogs
A £30 charge for a 3 night stay is reasonable, though the 2 page dog policy document is a bit overkill! Dogs are welcome in the bar so dining is easy, staff seem well used to handling people with dogs and make it seem effortless. Given how well the rooms are stocked with complimentary goods, it would have been nice to have a little something for doggy. We were initially pleased to be given a room near the fire door until realising it’s alarmed! Maybe give rooms close to reception instead?
A lovely hotel that we wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Just needs a few small tweaks to make it super.

We had a spa day which was rather disappointing from the start.
Upon arrival we was told that robes are £5, I've never known a spa charge for use of robes, it was a very hot day so we just used the towels. (the use of these is free)
The changing rooms are horrendous, they didn't offer much privacy, you could see straight through the divider glass, the extract fan makes a very loud noise and becomes really annoying.
the showers aren't very private either, you can see through the frosted glass.

very small changing facilities, We did ask for treatments but the emails went unanswered so we couldn't have any, we just had use of the spa.

The tables in the courtyard area wasn't cleaned, there was dead bugs on the floor, it would have only taken a few mins to clean up but nobody seemed interested in that!

Spa facilities- Hot tubs-
These are small, the sort that you would expect for private use in a home.
when we stopped the jets and bubbles we saw how unclean they was. there was a tab end floating in there, the water was a very strange colour and the scum that had collected round the edge was shocking, they certainly aren't cleaned regularly.
Ice fountain is a bowl of ice cubes to rub on yourself
Drench shower is just a cold shower
Couldn't tell the difference between the sauna and steam room, they was basically the same thing, it was such a hot day we didn't spend much time in them.
we didn't use the foot spa's, they was always in use but given that they aren't cleaned between uses and one woman said the water was boiling hot, I wasn't too fussed.

We went to the bar area for a drink, one person ordered a strawberry Daiquiri, expecting a proper cocktail. it was in a plastic tumbler, pre mix fruit juice with a bit of rum mixed in.

we had a Wowcher deal so thankfully didn't pay much.
it included dinner, for what we paid, the dinner was fine and the staff were lovely and friendly but it wasn't a place I would visit again.

Booked a 3 hour spa day here with my mum and paid for a 50 min massage each at £85 per person.

The spa is small and an unusual awkward layout which is not the end of the world, but it is dated, tired and feels far from luxury. The changing room is shabby, mucky towels used as shower mats, water dripping. Through the ceiling with mould growing, causing a big puddle on the floor and probably very dangerous as it was dripping through a light fixture. Kept getting dripped on as I was getting changed.

Towels on the windowsill in the corridor to changing rooms collecting more dripping water. Massage chairs in the corridor and a foot soak charged at £25 for 20 mins.

Hot tubs were not that warm, full of floating flies and hairs and also looked worn and tired. Felt dirty sitting in them for 10 mins.

Then the icing on the cake £170 for a full body massage for 2 - the massage was terrible. Asked for firm pressure on the consultation form, I felt like I was tickled for 50 mins. Therapist didn’t ask if I had any areas of concern which needed extra work. She did ask if pressure was okay, to which I replied firmer please and the light pressure continued. My mums massage was the same.

Appreciate this massage was their last of the day, they may have been tired and ready to get home, but as a paying customer, it’s not good enough. £170 for 2 people for 50 mins is a lot of money to come out with worse neck ache from the bed than you went in with.

We had dinner at the hotel included in our package which was equally as terrible. The soup was the only nice thing. The carvery was dry and meat was tough and cut extremely thick. I paid extra to supplement a different meal off the normal menu which I only had a few mouthfuls of because it was so poor. I ordered a butternut squash and sweet potato curry… but a cauliflower curry was served. I’m not a huge cauliflower fan and wouldn’t have ordered it. Had a few mouthfuls and left it. Made staff aware but they still added it to the bill and we paid it because by this point we just wanted to leave.

If you want luxury, this is NOT the place!

If your boyfriends half decent looking and you plan on staying with him, i wouldn’t come here. The lady that massaged my boyfriend told him that the other girls all thought he was really good looking. One of them also told my boyfriend he smelt so good while i was showering after using the spa facilities. Both of these instances occurred when i wasn’t there, clearly if they were light hearted comments they wouldn’t warrant for me not to be there.

The organisation of this place was also poor with us having to go into our separate massages alone an hour apart with all of our luggage so we didn’t ‘miss our spots’ minutes after arriving half an hour early.

We paid extra for a ‘luxury room’ and got a dated room with 2 single beds posing as a double. The luxury package was meant to include fizz but instead we got a bottle of water, decanter of port (odd choice) and 3 tiny chocolates. There was also no hairdryer - not essential but handy to know.

The spa facilities weren’t available when we went so we had to book them 4 hours after checkout on the day we were leaving meaning we had to make use of our time elsewhere prior to this. one hottub was out of order at the time so we kept having to check there was nobody there before we went in and then felt rushed to get out as other couples were waiting.

What we expected to be a lovely relaxing weekend that we’d been so excited for has really let us down. I hope this review reaches the necessary people and the issues are rectified for the sake of future guests.

Another fine stay at The Bridge where we stay one or two nights twice a year and have done for over ten years. The ground floor room No. 4 (ground as requested) was spotless, quiet and comfortable and included hot water radiator heating that was on all night if needed, controlled by a stopcock tap. The TV goes loud enough to be heard without being obtrusive for neighbouring rooms (rare) . The buffet breakfast - as much of everything as you like - was for me "to die for".as usual. The Asian lady managing in the breakfast room recognised and greeted us warmly. Well done all at The Bridge, we'll come again in August.

Booked here with some friends for a spa weekend. When we arrived we had to ping the reception for someone to come out, so not the best start, and she seemed a bit flustered. All weekend the staff seemed to apologise for having other events on, either a wedding or Christmas party.

We had paid for a room upgrade ( Brontë suite) however this was located above the Bar, so on both nights you could hear people below and the function room was being used for Christmas Parties. The Music was going on till 1am on the Saturday night, and eventually I went down at 10 to 1 to reception as I thought this was taking the Micky to much, and was told oh it will end at 1. Ahh right well isn’t that brilliant.

Included in our deal, we had a carvery included both nights, we had that the first night but to be honest it wasn’t great. The beef was dry, the Yorkshire puddings were Cold, the veg was boiled to a pulp. The 2nd night we saw some burgers coming out so paid to upgrade and they were a lot better than the food we had the night before. Breakfast was good, choice of hot and cold, but hard to get that wrong.

The room- I would say it’s decor is okay, bed comfy, unfortunately could hear the noise from the bar below which both nights was past midnight. The bathroom was huge, but needs some TLC. A few cracked tiles around the jacuzzi bath along with mould/mildew in the sealant, so not what you expect from a ‘4’ star hotel. Surprised no dressing gowns or slippers in the room given that it is a spa hotel too. Little things that I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

Spa- small compact, 2 hot tubs, 2 saunas and a steam room, plus treatment rooms. Had to wait an hour for afternoon tea, which wasn’t really worth the wait. Never had squirty cream with my scone before, not sure if that’s a Yorkshire thing or they didn’t have any clotted.

Overall underwhelming and not the relaxing break away I was hoping for, Uber to York cost £22 so that wasn’t to bad for a day out.

My partner and I stayed last night at The Bridge Hotel and Spa for the Overnight Spa Indulgence package for £238.

We arrived at the spa at 11am. We were welcomed by Caroline, who was lovely and explained all the facilities and treatments available.

However, the spa facilities and changing rooms are very run down and need renovating.
Our treatments were good and the spa therapists were again very welcoming and friendly.

Later in the evening, we had a carvery dinner which was included in the price. The carvery was ok but a little on the dry side.
However, the biscoff cheesecake was delicious!

The part of our visit which was very disappointing was our overnight stay.
There was a loud continuous buzzing sound which was extremely disturbing. It sounded like a faulty boiler.
My partner spoke to someone on Reception in the evening regarding this. The member of staff tried to move us but the only rooms available were rooms on the same corridor and the noise could still be heard from these rooms too as it was so loud.
We decided to stay in our original room, as moving wouldn’t have made a difference.

This morning at check out, the member of staff asked how our stay was. I explained about the noise and that we hadn’t really slept. She apologised for the noise, but that was it.

We had breakfast before leaving, which was good and again the staff were very friendly.

Overall, I’m very disappointed as the stay was for my birthday.
I’m not sure we will be returning.
