Stopped on our way from Isandlwana to Mooi River and what a pleasant surprise in this rather old fashioned hotel with a nice welcome from the lady owner and staff. We had a very generous portion of bobotie with fresh vegetables.

Really friendly staff, in a great location for battlefield sightseeing. Very nice food and good variety. A good bar. Lovely lounge with great character. The room was comfortable, while dated, though was well cleaned.

Brilliant hotel with proper old school charm, very well priced and fantastic food, real home from home. The lamb Curry was the best I have ever had, rooms were very comfortable and roomy, added bonus was the excellent packed lunch and laundry service. Dundee is a great town and makes an excellent centre for battlefield tours, the owner is helpful...

If you are expecting a five star hotel -forget it. But for a small town country hotel it is wonderful. The staff and owner are delightful and could not do more to make sure you were well looked after and comfortable. Meals were good and varied and our family room for 3 was adequate. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and ideally...

Stayed here with friends for 2 nights to visit the Zulu battlefields. Having read a number of highly complimentary reviews I had high expectations but sadly they were not satisfied. 2 of our party took single rooms facing the street whilst 2 shared a family room. The single rooms were intolerably noisy as there was only single glazing which offered...

I stayed three nights at the Royal Country in Dundee. It was a great choice - dinner available in the hotel, clean and comfortable rooms, plenty of spaces indoors and outdoors to sit and read, the staff without exception are friendly and helpful and efficient. A safe and secure place. Right in the centre of town. I stayed here in...

Pleasant country hotel with tons of character. Great service. Good value for money. Motz goes all out to make the stay special. Made us a lunch pack at no extra cost. She called in our long lost travel companion for a great reunion.

A delightful old fashioned hotel. Quaint bedrooms with really good mattresses. The staff were friendly, helpful and always smiling. The Food - just outstanding and I will have to diet to get into some of my clothes again! This is the perfect location for one's visit to the Battlefields with masses of photographs and memorabilia all over the hotel. Super...

I've stayed at the hotel on numerous occasions for business and really enjoyed my stay. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the food is also very good. They have nice home cooked meal options for the evenings and breakfast was cooked to your request.

Established in 1886, this hotel is ably owned and run by Motsie Bezuidenhout (no, she hasn't been there that long!) and the kitchen and dining-room operate smoothly under kid gloved iron hand of Norah (now in her 46th year of service). Although an olde world inn, the hospitality is clearly of the 21st century: welcoming, hospitable with a wanting-to-please style....
