I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. Myself and my significant other stayed in the Penthouse room number 11 which had the most beautiful and was our favorite room over our 10 day stay.

The real standout was the amazing stuff. Our beach chairs were reserved and prepared every morning and the restaurant was an absolute delight. Some of the best food we've had in Sri Lanka. Could not think of a better place to stay for a trip to Unawatuna.

this hotel was great the room was very nice the staff was just the best! they were so caring and always close by if you need anything, the manager was very friendly and took really good care of our needs I recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay at a beach front location. we had sea food at the hotel restaurant every night, it was fresh and very well presented.
the only down side is there is no pool on location but they have sister hotels close by and arrange free transportation if you want to go for a swim in a pool.

We stayed at the suggestion of a friend. The hotel is not large but it is well suited. The breakfasts were large and had tons of fresh fruit to offer. The restaurant has multiple options to suit many tastes.

I would loved to have seen the hotel take a bit more effort to insulate and make the rooms more energy efficient.

The hotels is well suited in the street it is on as you can walk along the street or along the beach to get to it.

The hotel was able to book all of our excursions though our guides did not all speak very fluent English.

We enjoyed our stay.

We returned to the Beach House in Feb 2022 after a fantastic stay over Christmas 2017. The location is still second to none in Unawatuna and the staff cheerful but the hotel itself is not in great shape. Cleanliness of the public areas is not great (although the rooms are spotless) - there is a smell of stale cooking oil that pervades the whole property and up the stairs, and as your approach the top floor there is a smell of diesel fumes (possibly from the generator). Breakfast used to be served in the lobby area which was shady and clean, now it’s served on the beach which whilst having a spectacular outlook, is dirty and smelly - litter and remains of last night’s dinner in the sand beneath your feet which attracts stray dogs, flies and crows as do the used plates and dishes which are slow to be cleared. A quick rake or sweep up before breakfast service would eradicate this problem or offer breakfast inside too. The food is, on the whole, excellent but our first three meals were all served incorrectly (i.e. did not match the order) and on one occasion they brought out a double order and then still tried to charge us for the extra meal.

One other change since we last stayed (and no fault of the Beach House) is the construction of a 330 bedroom, Russian hotel in Unawatuna. Consequently the whole place is a lot busier (people and traffic) and on our first night a loud disco blared out music until nearly midnight which could be heard all along the beach.

Our first visit to Sri Lanka. First a guided tour, and then a relaxing stay at Thaproban Beach House for 6 nights. It was by far the best accommodation we had experienced. the bedroom itself was very spacious and clean, the room being on the back of the building on the road side, which was quiet at night. The staff could not do enough for us. And they were all so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice. The restaurant, which focused on seafood, was so good we eat at the restaurant 3 out of 6 nights. Although the Beach House does not have a pool (we enjoyed the beach) there was the option to use one of the pools at their sister hotels 8 min walk away, or they would organise a Tuk Tuk. We only used the other hotel to have a great sunset cocktail on the roof bar. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

This weekend we have decided to spend at smaller boutique hotel directly at the beach. Usually we are going for 4* and 5* hotels because we like luxury places and enjoy to spend our off time with all available comfort. We were a bit in doubts to go for a small boutique hotel BUT our visit of that place went from the beginning till the end totally beyond our expectations.

Room #1 at the ground floor in the centre of all happening with beautiful small terrace where you can sit and enjoy a beautiful surroundings and mainly ocean view. Room was well cleaned, welcoming and cozy.

As we were on BB (bed and breakfast) we were ordering and tasting specialities from the menu. The ordered meals were one of the best I have eaten in Sri Lanka, the flavours and combination were absolutely delicious, very well done to the local chef because it was the gastronomical masterpieces. The prices very, very affordable.

The staff of the place is the part of all experience. Everyone gives you so much attention (not annoying attention), that type of attention you feel very welcomed, comfortable and homely. A lot of eye contact, warm smiles and conversations. Basically because of staff we have decided that's gonna be our place in Unawatuna where we will come back whenever we decide to stay in Unawatuna.

Unawatuna city/beach is well known beach basically the beach #1 in Sri Lanka mainly for younger travellers who would like to enjoy parties at night but in my opinion all age categories can find what they are looking for because we have just find what we needed (sun, beautiful beach, relax, good food, perfect service and cozy room with comfortable bed for a good sleep).

I can highly recommended this place, you won't be disappointed at any point, I can promise!

Many Thanks to all team!

Alena (Czech Republic) & Damith (Sri Lanka)

The staff are exceptional. Always friendly and willing to help. Thaproban Beach House is right on the sand dunes with many restaurants and bars close by. Breakfast was included with a choice between a western breakfast or traditional Sri Lankan breakfast. We always chose the Sri Lankan breakfast which varied a little each day. Also enjoyed the food at the restaurant. My only criticism would be that the steps to the second bedroom in the Penthouse are very steep and I think a tad dangerous, so personally if going back I would book one of the lower floor rooms.

Nice hotel by the beach.

The positives: nice rooms with comfortable beds. The staff was so helpful and friendly, we really felt welcomed. The location is right on the beach in unawatuna center

The negatives: we paid extra for a better room (deluxe something) and asked for a view towards the beach. Looking at the pictures on Tripad the view was one of the main reasons for booking this hotel. Instead we had a room facing the parking lot (see picture). Also the sun beds on the beach got full and the area felt packed because of the small space the hotel has on the beach.

Me & wife visited unawatuna for few days to attend a wedding.
After the few hectic days in the Capital, we wanted to get some peace and quiet with safety on this COVID situation. So we were shown all the room types since we didn't have any idea which room to stay in.
I must say that all rooms were very nice with all modern facilities. There were LCD Tv's in each room and most of the rooms had sea view balcony. We finally chose to stay in a Penthouse suite which was very nice and spacious. The suite had two floors & a King size four poster bed.
The staff and service were excellent and food was great. The restaurant was really nice. We were shown fresh sea food and it was prepared for dinner. I can recommend Thaproban to anyone who loves the beach, sea view and great food with comfort.

We stayed here for 2 nights, as we wanted to experience the Penthouse suite. It was very close to all the buzzing areas of Unawatuna. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

The hotel is located right on the beach. Although they do not have their own beach, the area is clean and has great surroundings. The hotel doesn't have a pool, but you can use the one at Thaproban Pavilion Waves. The hotel provides a free shuttle service.

The room was massive! There were two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the beach.

There are two options for breakfast: Western and Eastern. The Eastern breakfast is recommended to be ordered one night before, but we had no idea, and they were more than happy to arrange this. It was delicious!

We ordered fish curry from their restaurant, and it was brought to our room on our last night. It was a wonderful experience, as we enjoyed the sea breeze, the music from the next door bar, and the delicious food.

However, the noise from the next-door bar persisted through the night, so it wasn't easy to sleep. You may want to keep this in mind.

Additionally, they facilitated the pre-departure PCR test, which cost LKR 7,500 per person. The person meets you in the lobby early in the morning, does the test, and gets your results the following morning (24 hours later).

We had a pleasant experience, a great room, and excellent service.
