We stayed at the Thaproban Waves part of the hotel. High standard hotel (by Sri Lanka standard) with extreme service minded staff (Especially the waiter Kolvin). The hotel is placed behind the north end of the beach (walking distance to the beach 500 m) away from the traffic and noice. There are beautiful view to the rocky coast. A bit expensive food and drinks, but they have a free tuktuk service to the beach were the food is cheaper if you want.

We stayed a week here and had the most lovely time. It's in a very quiet location yet not far from everything that's going on at Unawatuna beach and Galle. £2/3 in a tuk tuk max anywhere.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, Sri Lankan hospitality at it's best. The rooms were lovely and A/c which is essential was great. A sports bar area with pool/darts and a gym help provide all round entertainment if heading out is not your thing. 2 swimming pools by the crashing waves of the sea with an abundance of towels make sitting out a pleasure.
Only had one massage that was lovely in rooms cooled by the sea breeze.
A La Carte food was excellent even serving us on the small beach area no trouble. The egg station at breakfast really good along side traditional Sri Lanan options.

Will definitley return!

This place has a lot to offer if you are looking for a place to chill. From the start, the staff was quite pleasant speaking and willing to help you all the time when you need their assistance. Apart from property being bit old looking due to high degree of maintenance required as reason of being situated near sea, the rest of the parts of the stay was magnificent. Dinner was outstanding and beyond expectations and breaky was all inclusive. What i love most was the location which was great to capture photos and certainly a scenic beauty of the pools nearby sea was amazing.
Thank you for great experience.

Dear Dilum , Thank you for sharing a review of your recent stay and such great remarks on the stunning view and the location. It’s my pleasure to know that you had a very comfortable stay at our resort and you thoroughly enjoyed our hospitality as a valued guest. Just a small note to you for info.. the architecture of this exceptionally luxurious boutique hotel was influenced by the Dutch era hence all suites and Villas are designed along the lines of Dutch architecture as with the Galle fort just across the bay, furnished with Dutch furniture and featuring large sun-drenched terraces, great for worshippers of the Sun, Perhaps you might see it as old but these suite rooms & villas have the last word in luxury living. Thank you for being so generous and recommending our hotel on Tripadvisour . We look forward to seeing you soon on your next visit to the hotel only to delight you with an experience to cherish from. Best Regards, Chandana Amarasinghe Property Manager

Last weekend, We stayed there for 2 nights. it was a package for half board, No welcome drink, no hot towels, No Hot water in shower, No water bottles in the room, dirty bath robe and we had to request for all these, We didnt want to complaint, we informed from them, but didnt bother, We order 1 plate of pineapple cost 1800 which i took the were just ripping us. At checkout, Everything was paid in advance and only extra, We were charge 1800 for pineapple, we asked them why no response, it was a plate of 4 pieces and cost too high, We requested to see manager and log a complaint.
Reception so disrespectful put us to the manager, totally in experince manager to handle a hotel as such, We informed him that its high priced, later we informed him with all the problems we faced, didnt bother him again, he just requested us to pay outstanding and walk away. we paid 42,000 for 2 room one night plus extra another 20,000, we paid high price to feel like home and have a good serivce but we were treated like so bad in the lobby area, totally unexpected, The management should take serious note on the staff and of course treat any guest and welcome them for the package they pay. its not cheap. so at least make them feel warm, i would not recommend this hotel at all, total rip of and really bad exeprince, i think they should learn to treat the guest welcome and make them feel homely. totally disappointed.

We really loved the hotel, such a beautiful view and awesome swimming pool. they guy at the breakfast was awesome, thanks to him we felt respected. otherwise really bad service, Room was lovely but nothing really worked, no hot water, slow shower, leaking from the mini bar. it was a mess.

I hope, and wish i really had a good time and awesome experience reason why we came all the way and the actually made my week and weekend even bad.

Dear Rajabdeen , Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for your suggestions which we do note for improvement. As you can see from our many reviews, our team do endeavor to deliver memorable experiences during the high occupancy days. We are sorry that you only had this isolated experience with us. We strongly believe from you internalization feedback that your purpose was getting discount for the additional bill for your extra consumptions hence you come up with all this issues which were not true….. Let me explain you that …. Hope you remember that you entertained two ladies with 01 bottle of whisky and 09 beers and al a carte lunches for all of them as in the room dining. That was the bills you refused to pay at the checkout. You behaved very unprofessionally raising your voice disrespectfully to reception staff, pretending you not ready to pay for what you had by saying you are one of the manger from one of leading hotel which was not totally relevant, us to know and we treat all of our valued guest as the best hospitality treat that they can experience with us. Please read booking com and Agoda reviews if you wish any testimonials from our end. With all due respect, I don't think that's the case. I have to correct you that your room rate was just paid 15 000 LKR only for HB basis for one night not 400 USD (74 000 LKR ) as you mentioned fakely in Tripadvisour which was not acceptable . Your total bill for extras was 20075/= LKR. Further assured the room and water system was checked and operational prior to your arrival. It was operating without any malfunction through the day you arrived. The technical issues experienced were regrettably unforeseen .Furthermore our technical support team was attempting as best as they could to rectify the system with in just for 5 minutes. Our front desk team has informed you in anticipation of potential possibility of hot water function correctly it was from your end that- we have telephone records that two ladies called back to reception and said hot water tap was not opened correctly earlier and later on hot water was running well after our staff shows how to operate the tap correctly. Even in departure we found that misusing of the room- smoked heavily inside the nonsmoking room and drinking glasses was broken etc.. etc ... To add value for your stay and to make you happy as you were our valued patron we did not indemnify for the damaged though we had to keep the room unoccupied next two days because of the bad smell. From the CCTV footage record run down from the hotel, we found that you have entered to the hotel main kitchen at midnight unauthorized way and taken two pineapples that as caught by security on the spot that was the charged 800 for each pineapple. Regarding welcome drinks we served you but cold towels not allowed serving with the government pandemic health protocol. Same thing happened with you had and taken hotel nonresident visitor to your room at night. We do apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you and look forward to welcoming you in the not so distant future to experience our resorts facilities. Also, we do recommend that you do make an advanced reservation more so in the current climate. We do hope that you will afford us an early opportunity to restore your faith in our services. Warm regards, Property manager

Great location by the sea. Great service offered by the hotel to take us free off charge to Unawatuna beach (2 min drive by tuk-tuk). Short walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Facilities: Nice to have 2 pools and we really enjoyed the salt water. Really enjoyed the view and services at the roof bar! Great prices and good service at the hotel spa. Spacious and clean room with a big well-equipped balcony. The A/C was somewhat misplaced above the entrance resulting in loss of cool air. The fan was able to compensate for this loss.

Service: Somewhat slow services at times, but easily compensated by extremely friendly staff. Good selection of food and beverages. On our last evening the staff put together a lovely table with flower decorations especially for us. Very helpful staff that is eager to help with any queries.

Breakfast: The breakfast buffet covers both Sri lankan and continental dishes in addition to fresh fruits and juice.

Would recommend this hotel to any persons passing through Unawatuna. We will definately return in the future.

Avoid Avoid!!
We checked in for a one night stay at 2pm. Our room was on the 2nd floor .. sea facing but unfortunately the hotel backs onto several villas rented out and there was a big party, loud music blaring by 7pm.
I became very concerned and asked the hotel to move us or I would need to leave the hotel as the shouting and music was horrid and I have a 9 yr old child. The management said it wouldn’t be a problem as they would stop but we then were told by other guests that it had happened the night before and the noise continued all night.
We could hear the management request the villa partygoers to stop but they were shouted down.
We packed and requested a refund. They wouldn’t give us anything back, did not see any problem.
They booked us a taxi which was very expensive when they quoted us the rate to take us to another hotel I booked .. then it turned out to be the hotel’s own car .. so taking even more money from us even after the ordeal and no refund.
The icing on the cake was when the driver realised he hadn’t dropped off the managers dinner which he had brought from a sister hotel when we were already on route and we had to wait whilst someone came to pick it up on a moped. We asked him to just keep going and take it later but he was clearly being shouted at on his phone.
They showed zero understanding and were very arrogant to the situation.. they even chased after us as we got into the taxi for a chocolate bar my son had eaten from the mini bar .. we were speechless..
I just think the hotel’s location is a big problem with these parties around them hence advising to avoid at all costs. They handled it so badly.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay. We truly regret that your experience fell short of your expectations. Regarding the noise disturbance caused by the neighbouring villa's event, we deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please understand that during festive times, such events are occasional and typically do not extend past a certain hour. We assure you that our management was actively involved in addressing the situation and attempting to minimize the disturbance for all guests. While this incident was unusual and not reflective of our usual guest experience, we regret that our attempts to rectify the situation did not meet your expectations. If you go through our reviews you could see this has not happened before. Regarding the charges incurred, I'd like to clarify that these charges were for the consumptions made during your stay and not an additional fee. Furthermore, concerning the transportation, our aim was to assist you in arranging for a comfortable transfer to another location. We had to bring back our driver who is off for the day to help you relocate at that time. And prices where paid for the taxi as you agreed and there is no way to find outside taxies at the time. We value your feedback and have shared your concerns with our team to enhance our services and avoid such situations in the future. Please be assured that your comments will be taken seriously, and we strive to ensure our guests have a pleasant and hassle-free stay. We sincerely hope that you might reconsider and grant us the opportunity to regain your trust in our hospitality on a future visit. Your satisfaction is of utmost importance to us, and we would love to provide you with the exceptional experience we are known for. Warm Regards, Property Manager

The hotel is located at the end of the road, therefore no traffic noise. One pool with salty water and one with sweet water. The room were very great, tidy and clean with a good AC. The staff were helpful, plenty and friendly. The breakfast was good, but the dinner possibilities was with no ambition and not well prepared. You have to walk ca 8 minutes to the beach at the daughter hotel. The beach beds were scarced.

We stayed for our holidays at the wonderful hotel in Sri Lanka - Thaproban Pavilion Resort and Spa. The hotel is located in a quiet place, you can hear only the sound of waves crashing against the stones. We had a spacious room with Indian ocean views and a private balcony. The hotel has 2 swimming pools. There are enough sun loungers for all guests. The beach is 10 minutes walk, or you can ask for a free shuttle service from the hotel to Unawatuna beach, a 3-minute drive away. The breakfasts are hearty, in addition to scrambled eggs, sausages, pastries, fruits, there are tasty local dishes. We ordered grilled prawn, crab served with rice and salad for dinner. It was delicious. The staff are very attentive, friendly and helpfull. The hotel, pools are very clean. I trully recommend this amazing place.

Cannot fault this hotel and their staff!
Upon contacting the front desk before our trip, we were in regular contact with the central reservation team through WhatsApp who very clearly explained everything required for our stay (pcr test requirements, quarantine details, taxi, visa). We loved the ease of obtaining this info and how simple they made it to be sure we had everything needed! A pcr test on arrival and before departure was also arranged to be taken at the hotel.
The hotel is beautiful, clean, in a great location with an amazing view, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming, we instantly felt at home!
Although very quiet in the area now, the hotel is within 5 minute walking distance from Unawatuna beach and all the cafes and restaurant along there, as well as a 20 minute easy walk to jungle beach.
This is a tropical country so do expect to see insects and lizards, even though we only ever saw a gecko in our room.
Perfect for friends, couples and families!
We were very impressed with the professionalism during this covid time, along with everything else and would highly recommend!
