We stayed at the hotel for almost a week and it was a very pleasant stay. The location is very good, just next to the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Ravi! We had breakfast every day and we could bring our own fruits and they helped us cut it up or even make juice! One day they made pancakes for us and on our last day they cooked Sri Lankan breakfast and it wasn’t delicious!

This is the best valued hotel on the beach, trust me we tried them all. The rooms are new, clean and spacious, the staff are incredibly friendly and the cost is reasonable.

Only a 2 minute walk to the beach. If we were to return we would definitely stay here again.

I was on holiday in this hotel. I didn't like the service. I don't recommend it. There is always no water. The electricity is turned off. They don't want to clean the room.I had to force him to clean up. Breakfast is monotonous and tasteless.I won't go here again and I don't recommend it to you!

On arrival the booking in desk was outside which I thought was odd, no nice air conditioned reception. I asked to see a room as we were staying here for 4 nights. He agreed to show us the room which was nothing like the photos shown, I opened the curtains and our view was on to two massive water tanks, the bathroom was so basic, shower curtain did not even touch the floor, rings missing from the shower curtain.
The pool is not small, it's tiny and was very cloudy.
I explained we didn't want to stay here but he said there was nothing he could do, we either stayed or lost all our money. The manager said he never got complaints but then he asked what nationality we were and then he said 'you British always complain'.
We rang the booking place whilst on the phone the booking place told us to take photos so my daughter took photos but the manager shouted at her and physically stopped her from taking photos. I asked why he stopped her taking photos his reply was 'she took one of the kitchen' why was he so worried about her taking a photo of the kitchen???
How this hotel has such high ratings I will never understand, it's awful. Avoid at all costs!

We arrived here late but had contacted the hotel previously to tell them this. The guy at reception (Attila or something) informed us we would have to spend one of our nights in a different room to which we had booked. He then took us to a room which must have been for drivers. There were 4 single beds with no bed sheets on them, the curtains were hanging off the wall and there was a cheap plastic covering on the floor. I dread to think what the bathroom would have looked like. The man proceeded to use bad language towards me and left me in tears. Thankfully we found a lovely hotel nearby and didn't have to pay the bill for this dreadful place.

They charged us extra for air con, but our rooms had no power for the duration. Staff then got aggressive when we asked not to pay the air con surcharge.

The pool is a tiny paddling pool surrounded by walls on three sides.

Basic rooms, broken furniture and no lamp shades.

Well where do I start, Wimals resort is an absolute gem. 15 seconds walk and your on the beach. The rooms are basic but to be honest, it's all you need. Your on holiday so the room shouldn't be all you do. The beach is gorgeous, relaxed, good food and great people. Wimals itself has incredible hard and helpful workers, from the cleaners to the security guard to the waiter, they are wonderful people. One man named Manjula is probably one of the nicest men you will ever come across in your life. I have truly made a friend for life. This guy basically runs everything, from cooking to checking in customers. He makes incredible food, all reasonably priced and cheaper than most of the beach food. If you ever get chance, order the coconut and honey pancakes and the traditional Sri Lankan 3 way curry, both taste amazing and some of the best food I have ever eaten. He is a great chef and highly trained! I would recommend anyone to stay here, you will be cared for and this is what makes your holiday! Never had a problem and even if there was, It was sorted immediately. Thank you wimals and thank you Manjula for making this one of the best trips we have had. We will miss you!

Wifi is in common area which for me is good, means your not on technology whilst on holiday. They have private tuk tuk (3 wheeler) and car for rent as very reasonable prices too.

Ps my partner lost her luggage through air Asia and wimals allowed her to use the phone continually over a few days until was solved so thank you once again for your help!

Hopefully we see you sometime again soon!

Visited here with 2 well travelled friends.
Nice location just behind the beach. Best beach to be on in the south coast!
We expected much more from this hotel after reading the hotel information and looking at pictures. The rooms and much smaller and more basic than in the photos. We were supposed to have a lovely balcony but instead had a ground floor brick wall to look at. No toiletries provided except for one small bar of soap. Had to ask every day for fresh towels and sheets-they just fold up the used ones and place back on the bed. Triple room was a small double with an extra bed squeezed in. Staff very defensive when we told them of our concerns. Breakfast very basic. But do ask for the breakfast pancakes - they were very nice. Coffee was undrinkable. Not great to have wifi only in small reception area. The "pool" is a small kids plunge pool out of the sun. Would not stay here again.

When I came to the end of my half year trip across Asia I decided to stay in a quiet, not too expensive place close to the beach and great seafood restaurants. I stayed for a few too many nights in Wimals Resort in Unawatuna. For Asian size beds I can asure you these beds are kingsize! The bathroom is clean and has a hot shower. The staff is helpfull and I would go again.

Thanks again :) tall dutch guy
