This hotel is an excellent home base to explore the area around the Lake of Constance. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the room we had was very spacious with all the creature comforts ( fridge, coffee maker) and a comfortable bed. You can have breakfast at an extra charge, and it is the typical German breakfast ( buns, bread, jam, muesli, yoghurt, boiled eggs, cheese and cold cuts. Some fruit is also offered. This hotel is a distance away from the lake( 10 minutes drive from Meersburg), but it is a very nice place to stay on a road trip through the area.

It's a quirky place with renovated rooms. The evening front desk fellow was ok, but he wasn't able to do things like fix our room safe (which was locked when we arrived). The day lady seems to know all the ins and outs of things, and she is nice to chat with. There really isn't much around the hotel, so you'll only be staying here if you arrive by car.I think there was a speed camera as you enter town coming from the east, so slow down.

The breakfast buffet had good selection with fresh bread, cheese, pastries, yogurt, and the like. Service was friendly. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, including traditional German food.

There are lots of hotel reviews here, so I'll give some details about going to Konstanz, as that's a likely stop for many tourists staying here.

If you don't want to drive into Konstanz, you can catch a bus in front of the hotel (you don't need exact change, just small enough bills). But it only comes once an hour after a certain time in the morning (I can't remember if that was 9 or 10) and takes something like 20 mins to get to Meersburg . It drops you in Meersburg, but the ferry you take to Konstanz is actually on the other side of the town. It's a scenic little town, but give yourself some extra time on the way back to catch the bus, since it will take another hour for the next one. Sternen has the all important bus schedule brochure at the front desk.

If you drive to Konstanz, you can roll your car right on the ferry and pay while it crosses the water. In Konstanz itself, that ferry port is not near to the part of town where all the sights are, so you'll either have to drive there and locate parking or take one of the public buses. There's a machine near the port where you can buy an all day bus pass.

We came here as a party for Silvester. The restaurant was packed but there were plenty of waiters so we didn't have to wait. On these occasions the menu is a bit shorter, and we chose the Silvester menu anyway, which was good value for money and very tasty. Especially good the homemade ice for dessert.

You can not argue with the value of this hotel/bar. Both the food and the room were very competitively priced, and the assistance in the hotel has done with a smiles. The main focus of the staff are to serve the bar/restaurant patrons in the evening, which resulted in taking a long time to get served and then not allowed certain foods as the kitchen was to close. The service was also a little abrupt at this time.

We stayed in a superior room, which was good value and large, and there were lovely design feature of the old building. HOWEVER I would have paid more just to have more shower gel/shampoo in the shower (a tidy one for 2 people per day?) and there was no soap at all in our separate loo. We were also missing a safe. The location is a bit of a drive from Lake Constance - and then you have to park when you get there - but again, the price would rocket if it were closer. It was hot when we were there, and without aircon the rooms were stifling, opened windows meant a little traffic noise, and on the first floor, I imagine the mosquito would be an issue.

Overall a good hotel and good amenities just

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night in August 2011. When we arrived around 6pm, the staff were madly rushing about serving guests in the restaurant - we didn't initially have trouble checking in as someone quickly noticed our luggage but afterwards it was quite difficult to get assistance as the desk remained mostly unattended despite ringing the bell. We went up the stairs to the room (no lift) but found there was no air conditioner or fan and when we asked, they said they were all out of them, so suggested another room at the back where it would be less noisy in the evenings so that we could keep our windows open. Thankfully it wasn't too hot that night and we were able to get some sleep, but in the event of a really hot night, a fan becomes a bare necessity, otherwise the room gets quite hot. Furniture bit old as was the bathroom as well.

The facility has a free swimming pool but to get there is rather complicated - it is across the road in another house and as all staff were busy, no one could take us there. Luckily a kine resident in the other house let us in and showed us the pool through a number of small narrow corridors, which would've been complicated to find on our own. We were told 3 different closing times for the pool so in the end weren't sure what time it actually closed, but we managed a quick 30 minute swim which was nice. Internet was free and worked well. Parking was also free too.

We didn't end up eating there as they told us they were understaffed, so ate elsewhere, however the food did look good. Overall stay was ok but for the cost (73 euros) next time we might try and explore other nearby options as well.

Excellent Hotel well situated for what we needed, friendly staff , off street parking . Our Room was comfortable but the bathroom was some what small.
For us Bridge we found the restaurant extremely good with menus in English making things so much easier but the only confusing thing was they have two restaurants one of which by all accounts serves traditional German cold food.
Breakfast was Superbad with only usual that you expect of a continental breakfast but with a few extra twists....
Enjoy ...

This is a well run hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was a warm day and it was nice to have a fan in the room. The room was clean. Everything was functional; simple but adequate. I have seen better breakfast buffets but this was o.k. The wifi was good and the beds were pretty comfortable. My only complaint is that , even though this hotel is off the beaten track, it is situated on a loud street. Our window was facing this street and it was very loud. It didn't help matters that at 8 AM, they had to start using the loud leaf blowers. They could have waited at least an hour. It would have been better to stay on the other side of the hotel with a quieter room.

Our only complaint was that the room allocated to us had a few unwanted tenants camping in the corners of the ceiling. I had to get my husband to evict the spiders lodging up there before I could attempt to go to sleep. We were surprised at the extent of the spiders webs all over the ceiling. The room needed a really good Hoover. Other than that other aspects of the room were clean and comfortable.
The local fish dish was good bit the Cesar salad was a bit wet and warm. 😟
The staff were friendly and it seemed a popular place for locals to eat.
The area is beautiful so don't let this review put you off going.

This is a lovely old hotel, the oldest parts of the building date to the 1200s and at one time it was linked to the monastery at Salem being their paper production site, as evidenced by the large windows in the upper rooms (for drying the paper we were told). Our room was a superior double room with a large double bed, shower room, separate bath and separate toilet. There was a flat screen TV showing Sky movies which you could get in English, and a coffee maker with fresh coffee beans. The mini bar was well stocked and there was a comfortable seating area with sofa, armchair and coffee table. There was also a desk and chair underneath the window. My only complaint really was that the shower and bath were open plan to the seating area allowing those watching TV alternative entertainment! This seems to be quite fashionable these days and maybe fine for the younger people, but us oldies don't really like an audience for our ablutions. Also the shower would benefit from a slip mat but these are really minor gripes. The hotel was a little more expensive than we intended to pay on this holiday at £105 a night including VAT but not including breakfast, but it was well worth it. However you do need to be aware that in Germany local taxes are generally not quoted in internet prices. They are not a lot, the most we paid was 7.5% but need to be budgeted for.
