Marianna and Filaretos Psimmenos created the AMANITA Guesthouse in Tsagarada in a truly privileged location between the mountain and the sea, on the eastern slopes of Mt. Pelion. Behind it rises the mountain, with its thick shady trees and flowing waters.

AMANITA Guesthouse is the ideal Mt. Pelion holiday destination, where the friendliness and coziness of a traditional home is combined with the amenities any good hotel has to offer. As it is situated approximately in the central part of the Pelion peninsula, it allows for excursions throughout both the north and the south side.

We are striving to make AMANITA not just a charming place to stay, but also a place of inspiration and wellness. Our slow food breakfast includes hand-kneaded bread, dairy products supplied by small local producers, “farm to table” seasonal fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and local specialties such as pies and herby omelets.

My wife and I had just completed a trip through northern Greece and had five days to spare before returning to Canada. A friend who lives in Greece suggested visiting the Pelion peninsula, home of the legendary centaurs and one of the last great narrow gauge train trips in Europe. He also suggested staying in the village with the 1,000 year old plane tree although he couldn't remember the name. A little research revealed that it was Tsagarada which is actually four small settlements spread over about five miles high above the Aegean Sea.
Using Trip Advisor I found a number of pretty good options and settled on Amanita for a couple of reasons. First, I could book not just a room but a large apartment with kitchen, bedroom, living room and loft with an extra bed. Snoring issues made this a plus. Secondly, the price was more than reasonable.

Tsagaranda is home to many fine old stone homes - some mansions actually, that have endured for centuries and Amanita is one. At one time it was abandoned until owner Filaretos Psimmenos and his wife decided to give up the city life and become not only hoteliers, but organic gardeners as well. They have succeeded beyond all expectations.

Our apartment was everything I hoped for and more. The grounds are a joy to explore. The breakfasts are an occasion for the hosts to showcase the many different things they have made from their garden and surroundings, including jams, confits, jellies and much more. We had many cheese pies while in Greece, but none as good or piping hot as the ones at Amanita. Even better was a wild mushroom risotto for two that I am still dreaming of back in Canada. Served with a local wine it was superb.

From Amanita you can follow a traditional trail down to the beach at Daumahari and back. It's not an easy walk, but a steep descent in places, but well worth it if you are in good shape.

In the three days we spent here we came to appreciate what Filaretos and his wife have accomplished with Amanita. It truly is an amazing place.

Amanita is a Great place, we stayed there 09/21 for a few nights.
The bedroom was big enough for 3 and was super clean, breakfast is amazing - everything is freshly made by the owner - which is a very friendly and helpful - and he took very good care of us.
They raise all the vegetables and fruit in their beautiful garden.
Tsagkarada is a very recommended location if you want to travel and explore Pelion area.

We loved everything about this place. The rooms are amazing, perfect beds and bedding, amazing views, cool breese at night, very well kept place. We enjoyed walks in the herbal garden and orchard and every morning a new breakfast surprise was waiting for us. The owner is always around, helping, providing tips and really taking care of everything and everyone. Amazing Greek hospitality from everyone working there too. Highly recommend experiencing Amanita.

Most rooms face the breakfast area where it can get noisy after 9am. If you don't mind waking up by 9am, then this is ok. But if you want to sleep in, you will have to shut all windows to keep most noise out.

My husband and I traveled to Europe in September 2019, and visited Athens, Mt. Pelion, Santorini, Cinque Terra and Provence. We enjoyed our extended vacation very much, and the highlight of it by far was Amanita! I can't say enough about our five day stay there. The simplicity, quality and beauty of the manor house and adjacent accommodations, the warmth and worldliness of the owners, and the elegance and serenity of the place were deeply affecting. Everyone writes about the breakfast, which is amazing - 5, 6 or 7 courses of healthy, organic and delicious food, much of it from their garden. We loved the dinners - we dined there two nights, and after dining out three other nights, wished that we had dined there every night. It was a 10 minute drive to stunning beaches, and our room, while simple, was just perfect. The graciousness of our hosts, like doing our laundry as we had been travelling for awhile, or offering us a fantastic organic local red wine, and sending us on our way with a jar of fresh oregano from their garden - this and many more small gestures were what made our stay there delightful. In a perfect world, I would rent out all the rooms and return for a dream week with my whole family...

A return visit having last visited four years ago. This time we stayed for two weeks. We did wonder if it might be too long but the peace and beauty of the Pelion worked its magic and we had a wonderful time.

A big part of this is Amanita. A treasure of a bed and breakfast run by Filaretos and Marianna. The setting is incredibly peaceful with the only noise at night a singing nightingale.

The bedrooms are very comfortable and the standard of housekeeping is very high. There is lots of hot water and towels and bed linen are changed every three to four days.

Other reviews have commented on the breakfasts which are a feast and set you up for the day. Dinner may be also be available on request and these are well worth having. Eating splendid food as dusk falls with a glass of local Pelion wine is an experience to savour.

The owners are passionate about growing food and foraging. Do take time to talk to them about this as it is very rewarding.

We had a great time exploring the area. The countryside is beautiful. What is less well known is that there are some excellent walking trails in the area, some of which can be done without needing a car. We walked miles in weather which was a little cooler than we had expected and very much enjoyed doing so.

Amanita is accommodation with heart. Highly recommended.

Amanita Guesthouse encapsulates the true essence of traveling and visiting a new place with great respect to the location. The setting is magnificent, surrounded by the forest and a beautiful garden where the owners have put serious thought and work in learning and sharing their knowledge on the flora with their guests. Every detail is thought through, authentic and in line with the setting. The breakfast served is divine, sourcing ingredients from the surrounding garden and locally. The rooms are beautiful, elegant and respecting local architecture. The guesthouse is close to Tsagarada's main square yet secluded and quiet. I would highly recommend it as a year round destination!

Amazing experiences at this hotel. Food from their gardens (tomatoes and zucchinis unbelievable) was a key feature and the incredible care by Filaretos and his wife Marianna meant that we weathered Storm Daniel in considerable comfort. They have their own water tank, crucial in a crisis. Breakfasts were home cooked and a ritual of brilliance , the hotel an authentic Pilion experience and the trails all around were highlights for us. We recommend this hotel highly if you value comfort, extraordinary surroundings and unparalleled hospitality. We left after a week there with a precious book written by our host and other treasures. We will be back.

At the heart of mount Pelion, Amanita is a heaven with beautiful views on the Aegean sea just 10mn away. The hosts are present and discrete, of good advice and they cook a very delicate breakfast enlightened by herbs and honey from the garden. Our duplex was spacious, furnished with taste, well equipped, very quiet.

This is the place to stay in Pelion! As you walk in the guest house, you are charmed by the scent of the aromatic plants around the breakfast area. Further down, you can enjoy the wonderful garden with fruits, vegetables and herbs. The breakfast is simply magnificent, and includes various highlights of the local cuisine of Pelion, making use of several products from the guest house's own garden. The buildings are constructed with high-quality materials, with every little detail being paid attention to. Tsagarada is a wonderful base for a hiking holiday, with several paths starting right outside the guest house, and many others starting a short drive away (I recommend buying the Terrain map for Central Pelion in order to have a good overview). The tavernas that we visited around were also of an excellent standard.

Amanita Guesthouse was a dream break for us. Set in a most tranquil spot in the beautiful town of Tsagkarada, in the quietest place with views of the sea and surrounded by vegetation and a lush garden. The smells of flowers was just breathtaking, and to add to the bucolic feel we had a nightingale singing just outside our window, morning and evening. The rooms were beautifully set up and decorated, with a very effective ceiling fan, and aircon which we didn't need to use, even during a hot spell. Everything was thought through and planned, and their good taste and design sense was everywhere. Perfectly placed for rides to the most beautiful beaches of Mylopotamus or the port of Damouchari. Plenty of fish tavernas by the beaches or meat restaurants locally, but the most stunning food of the entire break was the breakfast at Amanita itself. Food prepared by Filaretos and Marianna with homemade bread, herbs, vegetables and fruits from the garden, meticulously sourced products like the artisan cheeses. We never had such an early feast before. it set us up for most of the day. They are seriously interested in food and their provenance. In the late evenings we had a platter of delicious cheeses and wine sourced from the Pelion, all carefully chosen and outstanding. If you want a quiet and magical time surrounded by the lushest landscape but also close to green and emerald seas, go do Amanita.
