About
Marianna and Filaretos Psimmenos created the AMANITA Guesthouse in Tsagarada in a truly privileged location between the mountain and the sea, on the eastern slopes of Mt. Pelion. Behind it rises the mountain, with its thick shady trees and flowing waters.
AMANITA Guesthouse is the ideal Mt. Pelion holiday destination, where the friendliness and coziness of a traditional home is combined with the amenities any good hotel has to offer. As it is situated approximately in the central part of the Pelion peninsula, it allows for excursions throughout both the north and the south side.
We are striving to make AMANITA not just a charming place to stay, but also a place of inspiration and wellness. Our slow food breakfast includes hand-kneaded bread, dairy products supplied by small local producers, “farm to table” seasonal fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and local specialties such as pies and herby omelets.

Using Trip Advisor I found a number of pretty good options and settled on Amanita for a couple of reasons. First, I could book not just a room but a large apartment with kitchen, bedroom, living room and loft with an extra bed. Snoring issues made this a plus. Secondly, the price was more than reasonable.
Tsagaranda is home to many fine old stone homes - some mansions actually, that have endured for centuries and Amanita is one. At one time it was abandoned until owner Filaretos Psimmenos and his wife decided to give up the city life and become not only hoteliers, but organic gardeners as well. They have succeeded beyond all expectations.
Our apartment was everything I hoped for and more. The grounds are a joy to explore. The breakfasts are an occasion for the hosts to showcase the many different things they have made from their garden and surroundings, including jams, confits, jellies and much more. We had many cheese pies while in Greece, but none as good or piping hot as the ones at Amanita. Even better was a wild mushroom risotto for two that I am still dreaming of back in Canada. Served with a local wine it was superb.
From Amanita you can follow a traditional trail down to the beach at Daumahari and back. It's not an easy walk, but a steep descent in places, but well worth it if you are in good shape.
In the three days we spent here we came to appreciate what Filaretos and his wife have accomplished with Amanita. It truly is an amazing place.
The bedroom was big enough for 3 and was super clean, breakfast is amazing - everything is freshly made by the owner - which is a very friendly and helpful - and he took very good care of us.
They raise all the vegetables and fruit in their beautiful garden.
Tsagkarada is a very recommended location if you want to travel and explore Pelion area.
Most rooms face the breakfast area where it can get noisy after 9am. If you don't mind waking up by 9am, then this is ok. But if you want to sleep in, you will have to shut all windows to keep most noise out.
Date of stay: September 2019
A big part of this is Amanita. A treasure of a bed and breakfast run by Filaretos and Marianna. The setting is incredibly peaceful with the only noise at night a singing nightingale.
The bedrooms are very comfortable and the standard of housekeeping is very high. There is lots of hot water and towels and bed linen are changed every three to four days.
Other reviews have commented on the breakfasts which are a feast and set you up for the day. Dinner may be also be available on request and these are well worth having. Eating splendid food as dusk falls with a glass of local Pelion wine is an experience to savour.
The owners are passionate about growing food and foraging. Do take time to talk to them about this as it is very rewarding.
We had a great time exploring the area. The countryside is beautiful. What is less well known is that there are some excellent walking trails in the area, some of which can be done without needing a car. We walked miles in weather which was a little cooler than we had expected and very much enjoyed doing so.
Amanita is accommodation with heart. Highly recommended.
"Don't rely on your GPS. Ours was way off after we got to Tsagaranda. Filaretos will send directions that are quite easy to follow."Read full review
"We stayed at one of the two rooms in the detached building, right in front of the herb garden, and it was really nice."Read full review
