Beautiful building from the outside, in a good location on the waterfront. The owners are very pleasant, and this place has a laid-back family run vibe. Our Classic Plus room was not quite worthy of a 4* hotel. Furniture and furnishings dated, and shower in poor condition. The courtyard view was non-existent, as was internet access in the room. I'd... More

I have known this hotel since many years, Before it was less beautiful, because it was more like some old hotels near the sea, whose beauty was all related to their position and - for this one - to the nature surrounding it. This is to say that the garden, where the breakfast was served was one of the most... More

We arrived to the Hotel Hieracon the late August and stayed there with friends the whole week. The hotel is very beautiful and the stuff was very friendly, helpful and nice. Hotel is situated few minutes walk from the centre of Carloforte, it is in a really calm and peaceful neighborhood, in front of the harbor.

We are regular visitors to Carloforte from London, and this beautiful hotel never fails to impress. Rooms 18 and 19 have a beautiful garden view, or we choose a room overlooking the harbour. Either way, the rooms are lovely, extremely clean, well appointed and excellent value. The owners Antonio and Francesca are amazing, nothing is too much trouble, and they... More

I visit Carloforte every summer and have now stayed in three other hotels, as I like to discover new places in this gorgeous little port. The Hotel Hieracon is a delight and I will definitely return to them from now on. The position is wonderful - right on the port, walkable to all the great restaurants, and in a graceful... More

We just spent a week at the Hotel Hieracon and it couldn't have suited us better. We had a large room overlooking the harbour (fantastic panoramic view) in this historically interesting hotel (it's been a palazzo and a consulate). It was refurbished a few years ago, but has some beautiful antique furniture and large comfy beds. We were mostly limited... More

Spent one week in this lovely hotel with my family. We had two rooms overlooking the harbour. Watching the sun set from our balconies before dinner was truly magical. The rooms were large, bright and spotless with comfortable beds. Clean large washroom. Fridge. The hotel is adorned with beautiful paintings and antique furniture throughout. There is a small garden in... More

We stayed at the Hieracon on San Pietro Island for about 4 nights in July 2011. Charming, unspoiled, old-world island and town. Hotel is a little dissappointing - but from my search on-line I got the impression that all the hotels in Sardinia are quite expensive for what you get. This certainly applies to this hotel as well. We took... More

"In April 2011 my husband Giorgio and I spent one night at this lovely, cosy hotel overlooking Carloforte Marina. Our room, though, was one of the few rooms leading to the internal, beautiful garden, the ideal place where to relax when you are not strolling around the little town of Carloforte or around the island. We were welcomed by Antonio... More

I stayed here during low season in the beginning of October 2010 for one night with my wife. The hotel was pleasant enough but seemed to not be well organised, each time we went to reception there was a different person who was always friendly, but seemed unable to help with most things we asked. The continental breakfast was served... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hieracon Hotel in Carloforte, on San Pietro Island, Sardinia, is a charming art nouveau building built in 1897, although its original plan dates further back to 1750. Rivano Palace, home to Hieracon Hotel, was the residence of one of the most famous families in Carloforte, then active in the trade of mining materials and lumber. The ground floor, where today there is the hotel restaurant, was once used as a shop, while the back - today used as reception and conference room, was the warehouse. Later on, the palace was the seat of the consulate of Denmark and Belgium, at the time when Carloforte was the place where the trades related to the local mines (Buggerru and Porto Flavia) took place, as Carloforte had risen to Sardinia's second commercial port after Cagliari. The wall structure is made of local stone (obtained from trachyte and basalt) and reaches a thickness of over one metre. The ceiling still preserves its original pine beams, which reach a 12-metre span. The outdoor veranda, located in the garden, as well as the linear indoor columns, located in the hall, is made of solid cast iron. Insed the garden there is the small private chapel dedicated to Saint Teresa, after which the neighbouring quarter is named as well, which is used exclusively for private functions and for the family's devotion. Thel building show clear art nouveau influences, which make it a real rarity in the island's architecture. On its front, among bas-reliefs with floral motifs, figures of dogs (dachshunds), the passion of the Dutch architect who designed the building, are especially distinguishable and noteworthy. ... more   less
