We were so thankful to have gone away this year and so much more grateful that we stayed where we did. Such a fantastic location, such a cosy place to stay and with such great hosts. We couldn't recommend highly enough!
A brilliant location less than an hour from Lucca with charming views and set in a quiet, pretty and peaceful location and also close to the charming town of Bagni di Lucca.
We arrived late on our first day and Roy had cooked us a fantastic meal which was a great start to our stay.
The property is beautiful, very clean, comfortable, cosy and situated in a peaceful and friendly hamlet on the hilltops with lovely views and very friendly residents within the village.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't thank Shirley and Roy enough for their kindness and attentiveness throughout our stay - nothing was ever too much. Roys cooking was the icing on the cake - great food and top chef!
A great place to stay and we will always come back!!

Wonderful welcome by Roy and Shirley. Within a couple of minutes you feel at home. Quiet atmosphere in rural village with all the ancient memories hanging around. Food very good, breakfast unbelievable. All food is local, with the hand of the CHEF(=Roy) in it. Excellent tips for trips, adjusted to your requirements. Very worth the 15 minutes detour from the main road, accessibility of the village is good.

The B&B is set in the hills, 10 minutes drive from Bagni di Lucca. The B&B is beautifully presented and set in a tiny, quiet village. We decided to request dinner at Casa Marchi one evening and it was the best meal we had in our entire stay in Italy - 4 courses of the most amazing, fresh italian food, cooked by Roy (who used to be a chef at the Dorchester in London!), and all for a very reasonable price. Roy and Shirley, the owners, were helpful, friendly and incredibly welcoming - we would recommend this place to anyone!
There is no a/c in the rooms so it got a little hot in mid august - but that didnt bother us!

The house is in a lovely setting with fantastic views and good walks in the surrounding area. Bagni di Lucca is a pretty town with good value restaurants serving delicious food. It also has a charming hotel called the Hotel Corona where we stayed for a night before we went to Casa Marchi. Anyway, back to Casa Marchi. The house is comfortable and modern inside and the rooms are nice although the water pressure was quite weak.

The owners live and work in the house and spend a lot of time with the guests so your stay is very much influenced by them. If you order dinner at the house Roy will cook it and then join you and other guests for dinner so you will have plenty of time to get to know your hosts. As previous reviewers have said, you might want to look elsewhere if you are after privacy/romance. Roy takes his hosting duties very seriously. So seriously in fact that he will try and organise your entire stay for you from the moment you arrive!

Roy is a real character and it is never dull when he is around, his unapologetic swearing and strong opinions on everything from religion to women will keep you constantly entertained! He is always on hand with a beer or a glass of wine and does it in such a convivial way that you sometimes forget you will be charged for them at the end!

I'll certainly never forget my stay at Casa Marchi!

The breakfasts were plenty and always great. Roy was very accomodating with lots of coffee or tea on hand. There was a variety of meats, cheeses, breads, yogurts and cereal. Compared to the two other breakfast included places we stayed while in Italy his topped the list.
We did do a dinner with Roy and some other guests. The dinner was fantastic and the fire place in the dinning room added real charm and ambiance. My only warning is watch out when Roy starts offering before and after dinner drinks. Despite bringing our own wine and sharing with everyone we were quite surprised to see charges for drinks that we felt obliged to try while having dinner. We were very disappointed that the sips of Lemoncella and Grappa we took to "try" we were charges for. Roy's rants about politics in England and elsewhere were a little hard to swallow at times.
The house itself was charming. The rooms were comfortable and roomy. We would recommend staying here just watch out for the host.

We arranged to stay here last minute when we found ourselves in search of late summuer Tuscan sun (we managed a little!) Roy was very welcoming and friendly and the place has been done out tastefully and comfortably. A few minor gripes, the shower head was broken, the rooms are pretty small and the window is a sky light so you don't get a view (hey ho, can't have it all).

As other guests have written about, the idea here is that you join in in socialising with other guests and with Roy and mealtimes feel like a family gathering. Clearly, as lots of people have written about, many find this really pleasurable. We did enjoy it, but I just wanted to highlight this because if you are looking for something a bit more private this is probably not the place to come to. Roy is a good soul, but not shy in his views on the war, taxation in the UK and a number of other hot topics, so consider carefully whether you are up for a dose of that with your romantic dinner!

We stayed at Casa Marchi for three nights this June and wished it could have been longer. It was the experience we had hoped to have in Tuscany. Peace, relaxation, great food, good wine. There are so many wonderful places to explore by car. It was so nice to find a place not mobbed by tourists. We did have trouble finding it so a GPS would have been helpful.

Roy and Shirley were wonderful hosts. Our room and bath was clean and comfortable with every detail carefully thought out. It was a joy to open the window each morning and see the beautiful mountains (we are from Texas and to us they were mountains, not hills!!) Breakfast was lavish and delicious. Roy was very helpful with suggestions for things to do, directions and places to eat.

We spent a lovely day in Lucca. Rent a bike and ride the ramparts. It was very enjoyable. We also loved Montefegatesi, a village up the mountain from Gombereto.

We felt like we were leaving friends and hope to go back someday.

Last month August 2016 we enjoyed another memorable stay at Casa Marchi with hosts Roy and Shirley Foster. We first visited Casa Marchi 9 years ago and this is indeed too long a time to return.
A beautiful floral display on the patio and entrance welcomes us into Shirley and Roy's domaine.
They welcomed us as old friends or long lost family members and our room was comfortable with ensuite bathroom. Shirley excelled in her hobby of mosaics and of course Roy, as a professional chef ( Dorchester)is even better than I remember.
Their knowledge of the area is extensive and you should listen to Roy's Italian in a Lancashire accent when talking to locals . Impressive.
A most relaxing holiday with convivial hosts in a beautiful setting in the Tuscan hills.
We'll be back.

We stayed here for 3 nights from the 5th August as we were going to a wedding in Bagni di Lucca. Roy and Shirley were the most fantastic hosts, they had family staying and we were made very welcome. The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meals even more so. We won't hesitate to go back the next time we are in Italy, it isn't often that you meet such lovely people that go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. Roy even picked us up after the wedding meal

We stayed with Roy and Shirely for three nights at the beginning of our first holiday in Italy. I booked it based on the fantastic reviews. We were not disappointed. Right from the start, at the booking stage, Roy and Shirely went out of their way to be accommodating - even arranging a lock up for our open topped sports car. This place is a real gem. The setting is glorious in the mountains off the beaten track, yet close to the beautiful city of Lucca. Roy and Shirely greated us like old friends and we enjoyed their company enormously. They gave us great tips on where to go and it was a great initiation into Italy. Roy is a fantastic cook and the meals we had with them were second to none and extremely good value. We were so impressed that we booked a further night with them at the end of our holiday. Fantastic.
