We visited on a Monday at 1pm during the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, which was just an added bonus. Our daughter had her wedding meal here last year and this was our first visit since then.

The carvery was excellent, as it always is. A choice of 3 meats and a variety of vegatables, including boiled and roast potatoes, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, swede mash, carrots, peas and more. Also Yorkshire pudds and stuffing.

We were very impressed with the way that this venue has made itself Covid safe. A one way entry / exit system was in place with hand gel on entry and hand wipes on your table. Staff all wearing masks and drinks ordered at / brought to your table. Menus were washable and all cutlery, napkins and hand gel was in a lidded plastic box on your table with a little plastic bag too in which to dispose of your hand wipes and napkin. Before getting your carvery ( and only one table is sent there at a time), you have to re gel your hands and wear possible gloves , in order to serve yourself. Ladies now use the accessible toilets in the function room, to avoid 'pinch points' accessing the usual toilets, that are down a narrow corridor and next to the men's . We also saw tables and chairs being sanitised as people left.

A laminated and very detailed copy of all of their Covid rules to be followed are placed on each table.

We would highly recommend a visit, but book first if you can as it is still very popular.

This was the first time I have been for a carvery here though two others in my group of four visit regularly and I was impressed from start to finish with every aspect of my meal. The black pudding starter was lovely and the quality of carvery was superb. Every other carvery I have been to has always fell short in someway like poor quality potatoes of very little meat but everything was perfect here. Lovely thick slices of meat and a generous variety of veg. I particularly enjoyed my fruit crumble dessert with lashings of custard.

The entire process of operating a carvery was well thought out. You are seated and a box with cutlery and napkins are provided as well as a bag to dispose your used napkins at the end of the meal. You are then called to the carvery where you put on disposable gloves on so that you can help yourself to the veg.

Staff were friendly and all the starters and desserts came out in an orderly fashion.

A great place to have a meal with friends and family and the setting is beautiful as well. I would definitely come again.

Overall I had a great experience here

Visited today 28/07/2020, for an anniversary meal. We were a party of four, and we had a wonderful meal. Their covid regs preparations and precautions were top class. We felt totaly safe at all times. The carvery was brilliant, hand sanitiser and disposable plastic gloves to handle serving spoons etc. Cutlery was in a plastic box on your table, complete with a disposable bag for your used napkins and antibac wipes which were supplied. Top marks to Charlotte, Chris and all the team for making our first meal out since lock down a wonderful time. Highly recommend a visit. Keep up the good work.

We visited today on our first wedding anniversary having had our wedding reception here last year. It was also our first visit since lockdown.

Booking was easy and I spoke to the venue themselves as we have a baby and needed space for the pushchair which was sorted for us.

The staff have put lots of extra safety measures in place including sanitisers by the door and carvery station and then individual sealed boxes on the tables with cutlery, napkins and anti bac wipes inside. All staff were wearing masks.

We had the carvery as usual and as always it was delicious, the cheesy garlic potatoes are worth the visit alone. We then both had our favourite sticky toffee pudding, as usual it was a huge portion and tasted amazing.

Chris and his team were as welcoming and friendly as always and have booked us in for a return visit next month which we can't wait for

We have visited this eatery three times recently. It’s not that I’m unimaginative it’s simply because it’s a good place to eat. The carvery is well priced and ‘substantial’ and their choice of starters is imaginative. I particularly like the black pudding stack, although I’m told the crayfish is lovely. The local mushrooms look tasty as well. The wine list isn’t overpriced and there are good draught ales as well. I ask you, black pudding, beef and beer - what’s not to like! I should add for my vegetarian friends there was also good alternatives to meat. Would I go again, most certainly.

First time we have ventured out since lockdown eased. We were slightly apprehensive. But We had lunch with a couple of friends. Food was excellent but the impressive part was the lengths that had been gone to to ensure customers and staff were well protected. Alcohol sprays are obvious but we were asked to put on disposable gloves when getting our carvery and on the table the cutlery was in a closed plastic box together with alcohol wipes and a bag to put any rubbish in. We felt very comfortable with the experience.

Well done to you all and we hope other people will be reassured by this review and soon be returning to have a meal with you

Never been before so decided to try this place out with the missus. Once you get over the very low ceilings (being an old building this was what we expected) the smell of the carvery was delicious. Very friendly chef helped us chose what we wanted and food was delicious! Best carvery I've had. Only issues are - it's not a cheap place, more well priced for good quality, but few things let it down. Laminated menus for one, not a sign of class. £2.50 for lemonade, out a bottle! Bit excessive. Could do with having the decoration looked at, half beautifully done and half cheap plastic flowers and broken lamps. Maybe just a little more attention to detail and this place would be perfect.

Hi 98Elliots, Thanks for the review, it’s great to hear you enjoyed the food in particular the carvery, this is most reassuring to read. Thank you for the remark. In terms of the other remarks we genuinely don’t know what we are up against. I note the following: The laminate menu, we are in agreement with this, it’s not class, our menu books are out of use merely because of covid-19. Providing a menu does work better for our clientele than an online QR code, over 80% of our customers don’t use mobiles to access an online ordering/viewing system. Wouldn’t is be great to have the same vision as our government. Instead they put the onus on hospitality operators to track and trace and assume everyone has the ‘app’ or multiple’apps’. A clean no nonsense laminate menu is better than an educational I.T dining session twice day, no pun intended. :-) The lemonade is served from a ‘soda gun’ which, following feedback is preferred from the traditional bottled option, we still serve sprite from the bottle though. Lemonade is served in three measures of 1/2pint (10oz) 3/4pint (16oz) and pint (20oz), so if you were only offered one size we can only apologise for this oversight. Our pricing structure is balanced in comparison to other local pubs/eateries. The decor, thanks for highlighting half is beautifully done, please do highlight the areas that need attention to detail by emailing adam@nostalgiainns.co.uk as the venue has undergone a massive refurbishment since covid-19. We pride ourselves on attention to detail so we want to know what lamps our damaged? They must be replaced if damaged! We do have a few silk flowers in the fire place when the fire is out of use. Not plastic though, we are not fans of tacky decor either. We hope to see you again, perhaps when covid-19 has passed with a more relaxed non covid-19 environment. We are also counting down the days to get back to the golden days! Kindest regards, Punchbowl Team

Our Wedding Day was held here Saturday 17th April 2021! The first wedding after lockdown 3.0, the first and only wedding of 15ppl to be held here.
All staff worked around the clock to ensure everything was 100% ready for our day. They went above and beyond to make our day special and my gosh it was all that and more! They worked closely with the authorities to make sure we were all meeting covid 19 restrictions and rulings and with that the day couldn't have gone any smoother.
We really couldn't have picked a more beautiful and friendly venue.
I knew from day one this was the venue for us, small and intimate with breathtaking views for WOW factor photos.
Some may say we were unlucky to only have 15 ppl but honestly I wouldn't change a thing and we are lucky to be back in October for further celebrations!
We cannot wait!
Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts Team Punchbowl!
Keep doing what you're doing!!!
All our love
Mr and Mrs Walker

Ok to start off just a gorgeous location and what a very clean and welcoming building.

Once inside even after dealing with all the conditions and rules on CoVid the welcome was just fantastic, the place had a great atmosphere and the food looked and smelt so good if you weren't hungry you soon would be.

As I was staying as well shown to my absolutely massive well appointed room just around the corner from the bar and wow thats just to die for especially after a long day on the road.

I then went back to the bar and again different staff but it seems that they really do enjoy their job and it really shows in the way they treat guests, even when an elderly gent whistle the guy i was talking to he reminded polite and throughly professional an asset to the place just like all the staff.

It sounds a bit much but they all are great.

Had dinner a little later and 100% all round cannot fault the food at all simple as that, this then carries on this morning with one of the best breakfasts I have had in the years I have been on the road.

Value wise, well if I had been charged double I still would not have minded.

All in all I think you could see I liked it very much and nothing at all not even the fussiest of people could find fault there.

Thank you if your reading this and run the place your great and your staff are some of the nicest people I have met.
