Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My friends and I went for high tea here. Although the food was nice. We felt ripped of by the pricing structure for food we had. I’m a diabetic , I was assured by the staff that i could order a main meal. I did not want the toast, cakes, etc . To my amazement the bill was more expensive than the price of the high tea. When you’re paying £20 plus for a basic meal , thats expensive. Toilets where shabby.

Your party joined us on Saturday evening as a table of 6 booked for High Tea which as the menu states is £18.95 for a choice of main course, toast/cakes and tea or coffee. When you arrived you explained your allergen to your server. She confirmed you could order just the Steak Pie priced at £15.95 from our main menu, but that I had agreed to the unlimited tea/coffee that came with the high tea. Your table was checked on and ate all of the food served. At the end of the meal you were then presented for a bill for 5 high teas at £18.95 each and your Steak Pie at £15.95. Three members of staff each explained to you that would were paying less than the rest of your party. I wish you luck in finding a generous portion of a freshly made meal and toast/cakes/tea/coffee for less. Or in your case a large portion of Steak Pie and free tea/coffee for less!

Had the pleasure of delivering applied suicide intervention skills training to 25 participants over the last couple of days. I have to say the staff went above and beyond our expectations… warm, inviting staff, exceptional catering… great venue… would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone considering using the venue. Amazing experience thank you

Receptionist forgot to mention when I checked in that their wifi wasn’t working and hadn’t been for over a week - before I’d even made my booking. Hotel didn’t contact me to tell me that they had no WiFi. If I’d had known I would have cancelled and booked elsewhere as I had lots of work to do in the evening.

Unfortunately, our WIFI has had technical issues since Friday 3rd November. As it was over the weekend, we were unable to fix the problem immediately, we cannot guarantee that it will be fixed by Tuesday 7th November. We apologised for you not being informed at check in. The following morning, you were given the option to shorten your stay without further charge so that you could find somewhere else if you needed access to WIFI, that option still stands.

We visited for high tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was excellent, the staff lovely and the hotel had a friendly welcoming atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. It had a spacious comfortable feel also.

Would not class this as a 4 star hotel. Our room (31) was very spacious but the bed was terrible. It was very low and the mattress very soft. The room had no 4 star luxury feel. The bathroom was lovely only down fall was the shower was over the bath with no hand rails for easy access and no shower mat to prevent slips in the shower. Dinner was nothing special, very limited choice. Breakfast was lovely only downfall was the 2 waiters walking about with their hands in their pockets. Napkins were paper instead of material. Expect more from a 4 star hotel

We have stayed here several times and we enjoy this hotel. It has lovely views over the golf course and over to North Berwick. Unfortunately, this visit coincided with the storm but we still had a pleasant stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My only dislike, is I had the pear and almond tart as a sweet and it was lying on a bed of chocolate sauce, which I dislike, so could not eat it. If they had mentioned on the menu that is was on a bed of chocolate sauce, I would not have ordered it. I mentioned this to the waitress but there was no reply and not offer of not charging for it. Otherwise, a very nice stay and a very comfortable room.

Had a 3 night stay and we had a great time. Our sea view room was lovely, had a newly renovated bathroom and had a very comfortable bed. The breakfast and dinner was really good and we couldn’t find fault. Bar area nice with sea views. The lady on reception was very helpful as we had a problem with our car, and found us a local garage to sort out the problem. All in all a super mini break at a lovely hotel.

Tried calling to book a table for dinner and phone rang out; went on to their Facebook page and there was a link to book a table so did that - had not had confirmation a few hours before due to go so called and was advised, sorry but they only took dinner bookings for residents. I stated that wasn’t great so why have the facility to book a table offering availability and not monitoring the bookings, stated I would leave feedback to that effect and the receptionist just hung up. We had 2 large family events there last year which were really good but extremely disappointed at their current idea of customer care. Also no facility to leave reviews on Facebook AND the booking facility still live.

The ground-floor room was warm, well decorated and, with a walk-in shower, ideal for someone who is partially disabled. The food was plentiful and excellent quality although if staying more than a couple of days, more variation in the menu would have been good. The staff were all efficient and helpful and, above all, very friendly.

There was a great choice of main meal, and included toast, pots of tea or coffee and cakes and scones with jam and cream. Food was freshly cooked, and very good quality. Staff so friendly and helpful. Our first visit and will return if in the area again,
