Since we can’t travel overseas this year we are visiting places closer to home. We live on the Otago Peninsula and decided to explore the McKenzie Country. We hadn’t been there for years.
It’s a beautiful drive to Lake Tekapo, where we stayed at Ranginui B&B for 2 nights.
A brilliant choice. We highly recommend this place. We were welcomed by Ann-Maree. She was a perfect host. She gave us great information about what to see and do. She was sensitive to our needs and we had some really interesting conversation with her.
The B&B was perfect. Spacious and warm with the most spectacular views of the lake.
The bed was superbly comfortable, crisp pure cotton sheets, a spacious bathroom with underfloor heating and a balcony off our room to enjoy the view.
Breakfast was fresh and delicious. I asked Ann-Maree for her homemade muesli recipe and how she made her yogurt. The breakfast table is in a modern large living space where you can relax and enjoy the views in the daytime or snuggle up to the cosy gas fire in the evenings.
We can recommend this place highly.

We had a fantastic two night stay at Ranginui and only wish it could have been longer.
Ann- Maree is a wonderful, host, who is rightfully proud of her spacious, purpose built haven. The view is breathtaking through the big picture windows in every room.
We loved our large room and slept soundly in the comfortable bed, enjoying the darkness and silence. We also had a deck on which to sit and soak up the clean air and wonderful views.
Anne-Maree goes out of her way to make sure her guests are well looked after ("fed and watered" or "wined and dined!") and informed of everything the surrounding area has to offer.
We were lucky enough to meet Seb and be regaled with anecdotes of his adventurous life.
Thank you so much Anne-Maree and Seb you made us feel like friends visiting for the weekend. Rob and I are longing to come back.

Recently my wife and I had the pleasure of staying two nights at the Ranginui B & B in Lake Tekapo. Our time there was an unqualified success with much of this directly credited to our chosen accommodation and its owners.

The bush walks, fishing potential, hot pools, fine food and just raw beauty everywhere one looks was complimented nicely by Ranginui. While the rooms are somewhat on the small side this was more than made up by virtually every other aspect, and then some!

The cleanliness of the rooms stands out immediately after entering them after which the amenities come into focus, one by one. The guests are left wanting for nothing as everything is well thought out and acted upon. The breakfasts are nothing short of fabulous with the selection and variance of quality food abounding. You leave that breakfast table hungry it’s most definitely your fault!

Finally our hosts, Anne Marie and Sab(short for Sabastian, NOT Sabatini!)were nothing short of charming. It’s obvious from the minute you walk into their new(built 2018)establishment their goal is to see you enjoy your total experience while in Tekapo. They offer excellent advice which, if you don’t adhere to, you’ve made a big mistake! Their knowledge and passion of their chosen abode is thorough and gladly shared in totality regardless of whether your areas of interest are specific or general in nature.

Despite our previous thoughts of two days being an adequate timeframe to get a handle on the area, it was woefully inadequate! Accordingly we’ve already made plans to return. Would we stay anywhere other than Ranginui? No way!

Our stay at Ranginui was really lovely. Anne Marie was so hospitable even before we got there. She sent us a list of things to do on our travel from Queenstown to Lake Tekapo and we were able to check in early once we arrived.

The room is of a high standard, very clean, the bathroom was perfect and all of the little touches felt really special.

We were treated to a wonderful cooked breakfast before we departed as well as the most gorgeous puppies to pat which really made my day. The views from Anne Marie's house are incredible and we really couldn't ask for more in a host.

We would happily stay again, thank you for making our stay so lovely.

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon in early July, and what a beautiful place this is! Anne Marie is a wonderful host. She is extremely welcoming and helpful and cooks a lovely breakfast. The welcoming party (Molly, Dixie and Buster) was an extra special touch, especially if you like little dogs!
The rooms are large and clean with great views. Small bar fridge, kettle, tea, coffee and cups provided. The shared space is beautifully styled and comfortable, of course again with a stunning view over Lake Tekapo. All spaces were kept warm during our stay including the floor of the bathroom. Anne Marie also provided towels to attend the Hot Springs as well as dressing gowns and slippers.
Stargazing is an absolute must here – we went through “Chameleon Stargazing” who were fantastic and half the price of the other tours. They provide warm blankets, hot chocolate and marshmallows as well as a photo of you under the stars!

Ann Maree and Sab’s B&B has a fabulous view of Lake Tekapo from the balcony and room. The rooms are clean, modern and extremely comfortable.

Breakfast in the guest area was delicious and I cannot say enough about her warm hospitality and fantastic recommendations for food, sights and hiking trails.

We also loved Buster and Molly, her two dogs.

The best B&B I’ve ever stayed in. From the little touches like your surname on the bedroom door, to a stunning lounge area with the ambience of the fire, elevated view of the lake and mountains - you won’t be disappointed. Ranganui would have to have to most comfortable bed I’ve slept in in years, i didn’t want to get up. Newly built b&b that is so comfortable and the host Anne Marie was very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable and what to see in the local area.

Will definitely be back if I m travelling through

Just had an amazing three nights at Ranginui B&B. Perfect in every way. Suite was beautiful with homely special touches. Ann-Maree was an exceptional host who went the extra mile to make suggestions about where to eat and what to do. Fantastic breakfast. Views from the B&B are to die for. Cant fault anything about our stay and would highly highly recommend. Thanks so much for help make our wedding anniversary extra special.

We stayed at the Ranginui Bed and Breakfast for 2 nights. Our room was luxurious with amazing views of the mountains and Lake Tekapo. We were the only guests for our two nights so enjoyed chatting with our hosts in the lovely guest lounge area hearing their stories of how they came to be in Tekapo. Breakfast was continental with a full cooked breakfast optional. We were given many ideas on how to spend the day enjoying the area and possible restaurants for dinner. In the morning I woke up to the mountains pink with the rising sun. A great place to stay.

You will struggle to find 2 people as genuinely kind and interesting as Ann Maree and Sab (owners/operators of Ranginui B&B). My wife and I are grateful for their hospitality during our belated anniversary getaway.

Our original booking was delayed due to a nationwide Covid lockdown, and Ann Maree graciously offered a full refund or rebooking. We rebooked and the 7 month wait was well worth it!

The B&B ticked all our boxes. Cozy, quiet, scenic views, delicious (made-to-order) breakfast, and more... All delivered through the direction of 2 wonderful people (and 2 adorable pups).

Ann Maree shared numerous tips regarding local dining, tours, and outdoor activities. Lake Tekapo has heaps to offer couples and families. We cannot wait to return with our young children!

Thanks again to our hosts. We give Ranginui our strongest personal recommendation. Coming after years of travels across the globe.
