We stayed a few days in the Zawadi hotel and we felt like we were in a little paradise ! The location is extraordinary, from the entrance of the hotel which is simply breathtaking to the villa patio which provides you unmatched views from the top of the hill ! Service is top notch, food is excellent and the overall environment is exceptionally well maintained. Beach chairs are fronting the ocean from the garden where short stairs lead to an unspoiled private beach. When we were at the beach, we were always alone, just the two of us ! The beach location is simply stunning.

Overall, this is a gem in Zanzibar which is perfect to relax and enjoy in a dream atmosphere !

We spent 9 nights at the Zawadi Hotel and loved every minute of it. The views, the location, the staff, he food, the hospitality I mean everything was just perfect! The rooms are large and spacious and very modern. The beds are extremely comfortable. The views from the rooms are amazing. They rooms are spaced very well to give you enough privacy. We stayed in "Pweza" which means Octopus in Swahili, it is the last room on the right hand side of the entrance and has great views. Shortly after checkin while we enjoyed our fresh coconuts just taking in the view, we had monkey visitors :) which was a nice surprise. They did not bother us but just curiously looked at us and then went about their business.
The hotel has 3 common restaurants, one where they serve breakfast, the other one where they serve dinner and then a cocktail lounge for pre/post dinner cocktails. The food is absolutely amazing, the chefs truly are magicians as I referred to them :). Nothing is ever too much of a task for them and they accommodated all my dietary restrictions and also fulfilled all my cravings. Be prepared to be fed until you can eat no more :) Everything is a 4-5 course dinner so just be prepared to have longer meal times but I mean who can complain when you've got a great view, great company, great staff and delicious food! Most of their ingredients are fresh and truly maintain a farm to table concept - they have their own Zawadi Shamba (Farm) - you must go see it. So now I get to the important part, the people at the hotel they are the ones that truly made this trip amazing! Evelyn and Tammy have done an amazing job running this place. They don't miss a beat and make you truly feel that luxurious and warm african hospitality. The staff, Vuuai, Raaza, Charles, Ali , Iddy did everything in their power to make our stay enjoyable from conversations to drinks to refreshing my swahili. We miss them all dearly. The housekeeping, groundstaff, all really do such an amazing job and always will greet you with a smiley jambo anytime you see them. The beach here is beautiful, especially at high tide. During low tide you can walk onto the little reef walk and swim to the right to the blue lagoon to snorkel or take the boat. My husband got dive certified at the rising sun dive center at the Baraza resort which is a sister property of Zawadi. I could write on about this property but I think you get the idea!
You will not go wrong if you're looking for style, luxury, exclusivity and hospitality!

One of the best island resort experiences you can have. The property has 9 identical villas with the same view of the Indian Ocean. The suites are modern but appropriately decorated for an island resort destination. Zawadi is all inclusive and the staff was attentive so you never had to want for anything. In fact, between the seated meals and snacks/beverages on-demand, it was (almost) too much.

If you need a spa day or any amenities the resort doesnt have onsite, you can take the free shuttle to Baraza (affiliated property) 5 minutes up the road. Baraza is more family friendly but their spa and facilities are also top notch.

One thing to be aware of: Zawadi is 1 hour+ away from the airport so be prepared for the journey on island roads. The roads are paved but not well maintained in some spots so be prepared.

A friend and I took 5 days to relax at Zawadi after a couple of weeks of game drive on mainland Tanzania. We were looking for a quiet, boutique feel with as few other people as possible. Zawadi was the perfect place! It was so luxurious and with only a few rooms you are never in a crowd at the pool, beach or meals.

The team was attentive to each need, but never overbearing. We arrived very late afternoon from the Serengeti and had not had lunch. Shortly after unpacking there was a full lunch at our door. You will never go hungry at Zawadi! That evening we were very tired from the trip, we were offered our dinner meal away from any other activity to remain very relaxed with no pressure to socialize with the other guests. Although that was great fun later, it was very thoughtful when exhausted.

It was a joy to have a tour of their expansive gardens/farm and animals. After being on game drive (no interacting with the animals) my friend was VERY happy to be able to pet the farm animals and the tortoises! The farm is put to good use in the fresh, quality meals each day.

Most of our time was spent just relaxing on the grounds, but the desk was so helpful in coordinating a great guide/tour of Stone Town and spa experiences. Our 'room' (used loosely as it is much larger than my NYC apt) was always perfectly clean, at a comfortable temperature and stocked with drinks, cookies and fresh fruit. The plunge pool on the deck is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise.

The entire team was absolutely lovely, we had the most time with Iddy and Raza. Truly joyful to have conversations and laughs with them.

Arrived to a wonderfully warm welcome from the manager Evelyne & her staff. The first thing you see is the fantastic view of the Indian Ocean you immediately feel you’ve arrived in paradise!!

We arrived early morning and surprisingly our villa was ready & waiting!! Settled straight in and we were delighted with the standard of our villa & outside terrace with plunge pool the view again amazing overlooking the ocean!

The Zawadi is clearly impressive in its design & layout and in its contemporary design, fixtures & fittings giving a feeling of both local & Indian influences really beautiful!

The aim clearly is to make guests feel special whilst providing a wonderful customer experience. The staff were very friendly and respected your privacy and space at all times.

The food was very nice, in the style of fine dining and well presented. The spice night was our least favourite although we love spices! Most meals were superb! Others less so!

Good points:

Excellent accommodation
Bed & pillows divine!!
Cleanliness superb!
Staff friendly, helpful & respectful
Fabulous massages
Nothing is to much trouble!

improvement ideas:

Air con needed in bathroom, unit in the main room not big enough to filter to the bathroom area.

Villa Sun lounger cushions are to thin, your not able to lounge for long very uncomfortable.

Food not being hot, many times served cold? Transferring food from one building to the other clearly did not help with this?

Staff need to be more visible also they should check with you at regular intervals to see if you need anything? You had to go to a staff member if you needed anything most of the time.

We really enjoyed our stay and had an amazing time at Zawadi met some wonderful people & lovely staff
especially Ali & Reza, a huge thank you to Evelyn & Tammy for looking after us so well!

This is where you go when you go to heaven. The hotel is a true 5 star barefoot luxury. Every bungalow is ocean view. The attention to every detail is phenomenal. The service is beyond compare. I felt like every detail was especially made for me. We walked to the beach and forgot our towel, well we just turned around and someone had brought us some, like magic.

The grounds are very well kept and you must visit the garden and pet the donkeys. We just happened to start walking in and got a private tour with explanation and tasting of everything that grows. They have a wonderful start to being waste free and sustainable.

The food is so delectable that you aren't hungry anymore but keep eating. Btw the croissant are made fresh on location.

I didn't want to leave.

At Zanzibar Collections GM Jaume’s recommendation, we visited Zawadi Hotel in Zanzibar for lunch and took the opportunity to tour the property. Tammy greeted us upon arrival and Sarah showed us around. This is a beautiful more private hotel, mainly for adults. The property is higher up from the beach so the views were spectacular. The rooms were very spacious with a pastel light colored decor. Each room has it’s own small dipping pool. The bathrooms are very big. The property has its own farm where guests can pass through jogging or walking. We went snorkeling just outside of the property in the beach taking a small boat a few minutes out to the blue lagoon where you can see tropical fish and corals. We really loved this hotel. The animals in the farm were so adorable, especially a white colored very friendly goat. Zawadi is perfect for honeymooners or guests who really want a quiet beautiful location with impeccable service.

It took us several days to decide on a hotel in Zanzibar and it was difficult to decide as all of them seemed very similar with the exception of distances from the airport and which side of the coast they were on. We settled on the Zawadi for their excellent response times alongside the good reviews. Boy did we pick the right spot. This hotel is perfect for a couple's vacation. It's very secluded with your privacy being one of the top priorities. The rooms are beautifully appointed very very clean and very comfortable to the point of luxury at its best. The hotel has excellent grounds with private access to an almost private beach that has the odd walker pass by at low tide. The lagoon at the front of the hotel is suitable for snorkeling and swimming but is was a bit cold during our visit so we stuck to diving with wetsuites. Ok so that's the basics of the hotel, now for the really good part.

The manager and the hotel staff are awesome. They could not do more to be of service whilst also giving you the room so as not to feel pestered. The hotel has three sister hotels that can be visited all within a few miles of each other but they all have something different to offer and are happy to serve you if on an all inclusive from Zawadi. We visited the Breeze Resort and Spa for the dive center who with arrangement will collect you from Zawadi and bring you back once finished, 2 miles down the road. See the rising sun dive center review.

The hotel also has a farm which is a work in progress but interesting to see. Try the fire-hot chilies.

The hotel has a 5-star chef which makes an excellent menu for lunch and dinner each day. Breakfast can be healthy or hearty just let them know what you want.

I cannot recommend this hotel more, although due to the season along with Covid it was a little quiet there during our visit, with only 12 chelates its never going to be crowded which makes its all the more special.

Big thanks to all the staff for making our few days there special.

The biggest problem with this place is the food and drink! There is just too much of it, and it is all so very good, they feed you 3 courses 3 times per day, and try and get you to snack in between. They do have an indoor and an outdoor gym, otherwise my 2kg weight gain in a week may have been double! The staff are without exception fantastic, rooms and views that would be the envy of any resort, anywhere in the world. They also retain that personal touch which can be absent with some places like this, on our final night we were celebrating our anniversary, they made a song and a dance (literally) about it for us.

Amazing, if we ever go back to Zanzibar, wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else.

After our safari, my husband and I came to Zawadi for relaxation and a 30th wedding anniversary celebration. It was bliss. The property is intimate, serene and beautiful. A hidden paradise. The ocean views are breathtaking. I don't think I've ever seen so many shades of turquoise green water in all my life.

The villas are private with their own plunge pool and lanai patio overlooking the ocean. Each room has a water bubbler which we really appreciated. The infinity pool in the center of the resort is the nicest pool I've ever swam in.

Without a doubt, the staff make Zawadi a five-star resort. Evelynne and Tammy are excellent managers who make sure your stay is special. As an example, my husband had a small eye infection and Evelynne arranged to have eye cream delivered to us promptly.

The waitstaff are gracious, warm and well-trained. We got to know and appreciate Ali, Eidi and Razza very well. They couldn't have been more hospitable. They arranged a romantic anniversary dinner for us one evening. And the meals! Well, they are overly abundant and delicious. We loved the rock lobsters. You definitely eat way too much but it's your vacation.

We truly enjoyed the snorkeling on the reefs near the hotel. Crystal clear water and many colorful fish. Other guests did scuba diving which is also very popular. We visited Stone Town one morning. It's an hour drive. Nearby, we went for cocktails at the Rock House. We would highly recommend Zawadi to anyone looking for an intimate, secluded, special get-away.

We went to Zawadi for our honeymoon and it was awesome. We stayed at Zawadi for 7 nights and spent 1 night in Stonetown. It was perfect! They have a shuttle that takes you to the different properties and can do any of the activities they offer. For example, we went scuba diving and did a sunset cruise/starfish snorkel – the boat would pick us up at the Zawadi docks or we would take the bus over to Breezes and would get on the boat from there. We also got a massage at Baraza. (Would highly recommend the sunset cruise. We got to see the mangroves and a village too, it was a highlight for sure!) We ate all of our meals at Zawadi honestly because the food there is so good and the menu changes daily, but it would also be easy to eat at the other properties. I was very tempted by the breakfast set up at Breezes!! Evelyne (or any of the managers!) can help you coordinate those activities and they are truly so accommodating. They can also help coordinate activities outside of their properties as well – we thought about doing a spice tour or seeing the monkeys at Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, but we ended up being so happy to stay at Zawadi! We really wanted to relax after our wedding and this was perfect!!!
