Jürgen, David and their family make this resort a place you never want to leave again. With their warm cordiality and love for the detail they have created a tropical paradise underneath palm trees right at the most beautiful beach in Sipalay. Days melted into each other while I lost the feeling of time and space. No matter if you just want to relax or have a good conversation with the other guests or the family - you always feel at home.

This place is terrific! I have visited about 95 countries. It took me over 20 years to do this. I have hardly ever been at a more relaxed and nicer place! I like to feel at home at beautiful palm fringed beaches. I like hospitality, real tropical surroundings with rivers and green hills, good healthy food, a warm sea to swim, snorkel and dive, very friendly staff, outstanding amazing owner(s) who make(s) almost everything possible for you, nice inexpensive nipa huts... and a great atmosphere. All the above my wife and I found here and it was very difficult to leave this place! The other places at sugar beach apart from the Bermuda Beach Resort were either to kinky or to basic for me and less good value for the money.

We - me&my philippina fiancée - spent already two times (2009 and 2010) relaxing 'summer-sun-sandy beach-holidays' in Sulu Sunset. The german owner and the staff were always very accommodating, helpful and provided for some entertainment and good mood. The restaurant serves 'yummy', mostly european food for a decent price; for instance you can get brewed coffee (w/ milk), fresh homemade bread, pizza, gulasch,... but also local food like fresh fish and fruits. The rooms/cottages are simple but quiet and clean, and if you need any additional comfort or in general good tips or advice about your stay, don't hesitate to ask Jogi ! You should not expect party people/disco night life there, but besides swimming, pool billiard, ping pong, beach volleyball or arranged snorkeling/diving trips, you should not miss a jungle trip to the next bay or the cave and the mountains in the back-country. All in all, we have found our personal beach paradise there and will come back a.s.a.p. cu there! ;-)
PS: the only drawback is the the really strenuous, exhausting, at least 4-5 hours
(bus)trip from Bacolod or even from Dumaguete via Bayawan (maybe, you better allow for an overnight stay there)!

Very disappointed with our stay in early February. After our arrival, it took 2 1/2 hours for our dinner to be served - staff didn't seem to care. As soon as we commented that our children were starving - we were shunned by the staff and owner for the duration of our stay (3 days), it was disgraceful.

The owners spends his time sketching out at the end of the bar with his friend San Miguel overlooking everything you do - it is a weird vibe. We were the only non-Germans as far as I could tell - the Germans all seem to be treated far better than we were. I won't even get into the termite infestion in our room.

Owner needs to hire a manager who know how to run a resort because the location is pretty good, just needs a compete change in attitude. We spent most of our time hanging out next door at the Big Bamboo - WAY better service and food!

For the life of me I can not understand the positive posts about this place. We have travelled in many countries and throughout the Philippines and have never been treated so poorly. There are way better options at Sugar Beach and at Punta Ballo Beach as well.

Avoid this resort as long as the current management is in place, go to Big Bamboo or Bermuda Beach Resort instead, and enjoy Sugar Beach as it is a true hidden gem.

This place is a great value on a long and wide stretch of beach. Sugar Beach, contrary to what a popular guidebook says, is not a white sand beach. At least not in the Boracay sense. There's excellent swimming, though, and the sand is very fine.

The rooms (thatched roof, outdoor cushions) could use some TLC and freshening up. That said, the bungalows are spacious, well-lit -- none of that single bulb dangling from the ceiling! -- and has ample storage. The restaurant serves decent food, and bread is baked fresh in an outdoor oven...a really nice touch.

The owner was warm, welcoming and always stopped to chat for a bit. The staff was equally charming and friendly.

I have been touring Asia for 4 years looking for places like this, perfect sandy beach protected in a bay like area, Palm tree's on the beach to give good shade and good eco type accommodation that is rebuilt every 5 years. The accommodation was clean and quiet away from roads and the dreaded Pinoy cockerel that they all love to keep. The atmosphere was relaxed beach style with a host who checked your needs but left you to enjoy the tranquillity.
I am English and our host is German but my friend and I felt he made all nationalities very welcome. I arrived on the 27th March and stayed till the 8th May leaving only to tour the Island on a motor bike tour advised by the resort owner. I will definately return to this resort

Just to let you know, i am already back again for the 4th. time now in Sulu Sunset Beach Resort!
And it was how i expected it! PERFECT!
I always take the beachfront bungalows for 1200peso and i like it because of the real seafron! 10m from the beach is my terrace and the big sliding door opens that i can see the sea from the bed!
The food was excellent like always, fresh homemade pizza from the stove with wood fire and thanks for the tasty pretzels to the evening beer!
If you like to save some money you can choose the 550 peso cottages there are very nice too, but in the second row from the beach.......but if you are a moneysaver thats it!
Over all.....i come back in November! For sure!

While I arrived here during the only rain of my three day stay, meaning a long beachside walk after a five hour bus trip from Bacolod, a tricycle and brief riverboat transfer, my stay was as idyllic as the rest of the weather.

Owner Yogi built the initial three rooms 13 years ago and now has 11 rooms, up to 10 of which were occupied during my stay.

Like the other establishments along the golden to very light brown Sugar Beach, Sulu Sunset is set back about 30 metres from the beach which adds to the attractiveness.

My room was a fully tiled, fan cooled cottage for P900 a night, the best feature if which was no noise from roosters. The bathroom had a warm shower: there were a total of six lights in the cottage including mini reading lights while the porch was also lit.

The double bed was foam but fairly comfortable. The sheets were of good quality. There was flow through ventilation from the louvre windows.

The food was good, especially the pizza for a reasonable P450, while San Miguel beer was chilled acceptably. Breakfast is not included in the tariff but for a delicious banana pancake and hot green tea was about P155 extra per person.

Whisky the black Labrador was friendly but another dog and the three cats were

Beautiful beach front, friendly staff and a very relaxing atmosphere! Amazing place to be in when you are in Negros Island. The cottages were exactly what I was looking for. Simple, clean and complete. The food was surprisingly good and affordable. The staff was very helpful and the owner was very friendly. I'm definitely coming back and will stay a little bit longer.
