we'd booked an outside table on line and confirmed this by phone. When turned up they had no record of our booking so had to sit inside, Ordered fish and chips with the request that the fish be fried with a very light batter which would be crisp - turned up with a thick batter with uncooked flour which was unedible. Starter of battered pawns with mango was not nice, but the one with slices of smoked trout was very good. Used to be a really good place to eat but the ownership has changed. We won't be returning alas.

Billed as a beautiful pub and hotel but we were hunting for the best restaurants in the area and we were not disappointed. Its part of a medium sized chain and done out very much in the style of the Ivy Brassieres in London and surrounds, which we know very well and really like. But the food was another step up and clearly driven by 'chef' who was referred to all the time by the attentive staff. Beautifully presented and so full of flavour. We had the prawns and aubergines to start - both excellent. And then we both had the exceptional chicken dish (with a breast and a thigh - one is always too small for me) in a wonderful pomegranate. I could have chosen any of the deserts but settled for the cheesecakes which again was excellent. Highly recommended.

An impulse visit after enjoying many meals there over 25 years ago. We entered, followed the directions, sat down as advised and waited for service. After more than 15 minutes we still had not been even offered a drink so both my husband and I asked for a menu twice, still no service. On the 3rd time of asking a short waitress with blonde hair looked me up and down, asked if I'd booked and said she was already dealing with customers but would see to us soon, still no service. We were then told very abruptly to move tables as we were in the wrong part of the restaurant, during this "conversation " a father wanted to walk thorough carrying his small child and again we were told to move out of the way as he "obviously " had a child with him, we are both double jabbed and wearing masks so no threat to the father or his child. At this point we decided to leave having been made to feel unworthy in some way, insulted and angry, so we didn't even get to sample the food! I feel that perhaps this waitress is in the wrong profession or would benefit from some customer service training. The restaurant interior I have to say was rather depressing and dour, the atmosphere non existent and all in all very dissapointing. I will not be going back needless to say.

Returned recently for a family meal after staying previously and being extremely impressed. Unfortunately this was not the same experience for this visit so presume new inexperienced owners and staff who don't want to be there! We spent several hundreds of pounds on food and could of spent more but the staff were not attentive and had to be called everytime we wanted to order something. The whole evening felt as though we were an inconvenience despite the place not being busy. The management attitudes were so poor with no sense of the service industry. Food was cold and when returned and replaced was still cold. A bread roll was £3 and when ordered for a table of 10 only 5 arrived so presume they expected us to share!! If u order a gin don't expect to be asked what one you want or whether you want more drinks or wine and you will leave hungry! Such a shame this had gone downhill as it is a beautiful venue but sadly we will not be returning. When the issues were shared upon paying they did take money off the bill and acknowledged the issues we raised which suggests they know what the problems are but not fussed about changing.

We were served by the most awful, rude and disrespectfull waitress in this restaurant. She was middle aged, short, and long haired blonde woman who couldn't have cared less if we were served or not! She acted as though we had ruined her entire day by sitting in the EMPTY restaurant. We were waiting for an hour and half on a reserved table before we had the "pleasure" of meeting this woman who didn't even spare us a greeting better yet called us "walk in's" and rolled her eyes at us! Then interrupted us while we were ordering and snapped at us when we requested and extra portion of mac and cheese!!! We would have ordered more food and drinks if it were not for her absolutely destroying any positive experience we could have had. We spent at least £230 on our food and if it hadn't have been for her nasty horrible so called welcome we would have spent more! This woman needs firing!!! We came to view properties in the area but sadly we will never visit this village again.
