We needed a room for the night near Brockley and booked at Bowling House. We found it offered a quiet and relaxing retreat from the busy traffic in Shelton Mallett. The bedroom was tidy and comfortable and the adequate breakfast served in an attractive front room.

Had a wonderful meal here to celebrate a 21st birthday. From the canapés served with a glass of champagne through to the most delicious strawberry creme brûlée I have ever tasted, everything was perfect. The service was equally first class.

Wonderful Georgian building full of charm and period features. Martin and Len make you feel very welcome and the food is absolutely delicious. White tablecloths and cloth napkins with shiny sparkling glasses and always fresh flowers on the dining tables. We have held various birthday party celebrations and frequently entertain friends to the excellent value Sunday lunch and never been... More

This hotel is wonderful for it's charming character and the rear garden. The food is excellent although you have to be patient as the chef takes great care over all meals, including the breakfast. The house is 18th Century and crammed full of character and charm. Please excuse the warped and creaky floorboards on the first floor as the charm... More

We booked Sunday lunch at Bowlish House for a family get together. The house is very nice and has lovely rooms in which to have a pre-lunch or pre-dinner drink. However the car parking was a nightmare! The menus were given to us in the lounge (The Georgian Room) and we ordered our main course. The menu had a choice... More

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights in January 2016, and ate here as well. The room was very comfortable, although there was a howling draft through the window casement. We took care of this with some rolled-up newspaper, and the heavy curtains helped. Would not be a problem in summer, of course and it didn't... More

Stayed here very recently for a wedding blessing and had a wonderful time. Very beautiful Georgian house with tastefully decorated, very comfortable rooms. Food was amazing and couldn't fault at all. Would not hesitate to recommend and would love to return.

Bowlish House is a gem! A beautiful Georgian property being lovingly restored. The breakfast was very good. All top quality ingredients. Wifi is complimentary but very slow. We loved the hotel but I'm afraid we couldn't say the same for Shepton mallet. The town centre was very dilapidated and run down, lots of closed down shops/pubs. My advice would be... More

Renovated by the very welcoming hotel owner to an extremely high standard, we can thoroughly recommend this Georgian house. Our room was immaculate with attention to detail - crisp, white bed linen, fluffy, white towels in the bathroom and a delicious full English breakfast prepared to our liking each morning. We will certainly return next time we visit Somerset. Sincere... More
