We stayed there in October 2020. During the stay we looked at previous reviews and were astounded to see some really nasty, negative reviews. With the madness that's going on, this hotel was a breath of fresh air. Its NOT perfect in terms of decor or maintenance, and could be described as 'worn' or 'in need of upgrading' to those who are used to £400 plus per night in London, or the like. It makes up for this in having lots of charm and character. The 300 year old floorboards creak, and the furniture is antique - and all the better for it! If you want soul-less, its not for you, but we loved it. Breakfast was lovely, and Covid 19 measures were well in evidence. And Henry the dog is such a softy, his tummy tickles were free to all guests!
Booked afternoon tea with Martin and co, found the whole experience friendly and accommadating the sandwich's were proper and the cakes also. Bowlish adhered to all of the covid 19 rules. The dog was friendly too, good old fashioned hotel.
If you like historic buildings this is an interesting place to stay. On the edge of Shepton Mallet a,15 minute walk to the centre of town and restaurants. Nice footpaths for walking from the guesthouse. Tall ceilings ;Original sash windows; a large comfortable bed;enormous ensuite shower room and spotlessly clean. Not all staff wore masks inside but the waiters had visors.
We stayed at Bowlish House whilst visiting friends in the area. We had a lovely short break, the house is beautiful and full of character. Len, Martin and Henry the dog made us feel very welcome. They have really thought about COVID safety, from collecting keys to pre ordering breakfast, which was delicious. Would definitely stay again when visiting the area.
We loved our recent stay at Bowlish House. Social distancing is currently in place and we felt completely safe and reassured at all times and it was done in a way that didn't impact our stay or enjoyment. The owners are wonderfully friendly and helpful, whether it was suggesting places to eat out in town, or giving us the details of the best places to park on our day trips, we felt very well looked after. We were able to start each day with a wonderful freshly cooked breakfast that really set us up for a days exploring. The hotel is perfectly situated to visit so much of Somerset that we will definitely be back!
