This really was an amazing place to stay. Totally different to what we normally do and have never stayed in a guest house before but this was a 5 star experience. From the moment you walk in the door the friendliness and professionalism begins. The staff were fantastic and John is a great host and amazing chef. We stayed in the Hannah room which was top quality. Everything was so chilled and relaxed. The set menu was amazing and the breakfast was the best we have had which includes 5 star hotel experiences. We will definitely return but maybe with a few friends, which as a tip, I think would enhance an already amazing experience. Thank you again to John and the team and we will see you again soon.

This was one of the best places I have stayed. The atmosphere was so relaxing and the staff were amazing. From the minute we stepped into the house nothing could be faulted. It is top class. The food was the most amazing I have ever experienced, you cannot stay here without having dinner. John and his staff run an excellent place here and I cannot wait to come back again.

This Georgian family home is set in a lovely secluded setting. From the moment your enter the front door you have escaped to a place where every aspect of your stay has been carefully considered. The owner is widely experienced in professional kitchens. He provides an exquisite set menu meal each night that is unparalleled in its quality. The rooms are large, very comfortable and well appointed. The small staff is highly competent and personable. This was our best stay during a month long visit to Ireland.

My wife and I wanted to spend our recent anniversary in a relaxed and splendid location and after much discussion and planning decided Newforge House in Magheralin was the most suitable venue. We booked the "Dusk 'til Dawn" option and were not disappointed, indeed the very reverse. It exceeded our highest expectations. From the moment of our arrival we were treated as a special couple. The welcome and immediate impression on arrival was calmness and warm. The house staff could not do enough to make us comfortable as we settled in to the Hanna Room. The significance of the bedroom names became apparent when we had afternoon tea in the beautiful lounge where the family history, going back over 3 centuries, was recorded. John and Louise have since opening in 2005 gained many awards for both Hotel and Restaurant. From our dining experience they deserve every accolade given. The local produce, and vegetables from the garden, were cooked and presented to Michelin Star level but the taste and flavours were outstanding. We also, enjoyed a nightcap in the lounge, with new friends from Waterford we met for the first time at dinner. Breakfast next morning was the best Ulster Fry I have ever experienced. As we were departing home we were warmly greeted by the hosts and we confirmed our wish to make an early return visit. It will be sooner than later ! Our anniversary night at Newforge House was truly one to remember. Allan & Sheila

Absolutely everything about our stay was perfect. We stumbled across this place when we had a bad experience and needed to leave our other hotel early. John was a stellar host from beginning to end. The property is beautiful and I would highly recommend staying here if you get the chance. We would consider coming back JUST to spend a weekend here. This would all be enough, but the food that John prepared is definitely worth the splurge. We have eaten at many of the top restaurants in NY and this experience could rival any of them. They definitely favor spirits and I do think the wine list could be slightly better, but I imagine holding too much inventory would have an impact on the cash flow and I'd rather they be in business for the long haul. Thank you so much, John!!

John & Lou have raised the bar to a very high level. The whole experience was special. A beautiful house, exquisite bedrooms with bathrooms to match and staff, who, whilst being attentive, pitch it just right. The crowning glory has to be John’s food, whether it is the array of breakfast treats or his impeccable set menu for dinner. A special stay awaits.

We enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at Newforge House. A warm welcome and a cuppa accompanied by homemade biscuits set the tone for our stay - great hospitality and locally-sourced ingredients, with the personal touch. Our room was thoughtfully furnished with nice pieces and a beautifully dressed four poster bed. An excellent four course meal rounded the day off perfectly. Again, quality locally-sourced food expertly prepared. The same again for breakfast! If you like first class food and genuine hospitality go to Newforge House. Highly recommended.
