We were a large party, remembering an absent friend and enjoying a long promised Sunday lunch. The Cross Keys was SO welcoming after a long hill walk, with its cosy fires and friendly staff. Menu choices were very tempting and put together with original thought and care. Our starters of ham hock, creamy mushrooms and soup had the thumbs up....

The food was perfectly good, mussels fresh but a bit small I thought, steak quite tasty. And sauce and veggies fine but the service was poor. The publican was very friendly but his two female waiting staff did not get it right at all. One, the more friendly one misheard two orders for fillet steak so they all came as...

Booked a table for 4 people, it's the first time in the restaurant, but know the pub very well. The food was excellent, I had smoked salmon to start followed by the shoulder of lamb. The lamb was beautifully cooked. We then shared a lovely cheese board, which was a struggle due to being full, but could resist. The wine...

I've been drinking at the Keys since 1976 and have always found this traditional country pub a very social, and welcoming establishment. Since Mr David Lloyd took over, her has poured his heart and soul into refurbishing so as to keep its identity. This he has done, even complimenting it original design. The food, and its presentation can only be equaled...

Newly decorated and what a terrific atmosphere. Wood burning stoves and cosy feel. Food was terrific would highly recommend but please book its very popular. Very quaint and lovely to see so many locals using the pub as well. A great find.

We had a meal at the Cross Keys last weekend and it was excellent. Lovely atmosphere, cosy with fires. Really nice restaurant areas and the food was delicious! Staff were friendly and attentive, will definitely go again. Have not stayed in the hotel as is close to where we live but am sure it is of as high a standard...

Excellent 3 course lunch at the Keys, David the landlord and the staff made us v. welcome. Look forward to eating there again soon with some more friends. Drinks were reasonably priced and the fish course was lovely. We are local so will be dining here quite frequently in the coming year.

Really nice atmosphere and spacious restaurant, lots of choices on the menu. Very reasonably priced food for the portion sizes and everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty. The service was really good and was made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in. Will definitely be one of out regular eat-outs now we have discovered it

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Cross Keys has been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for 23 years and is one of only three pubs in Shropshire which is listed in CAMRA's Inventory of Historic Pubs with Unspoilt Interiors. The Cross Keys is a conversation pub, no Juke Box or recorded music, but live Irish music on Thursday nights and music events from time to time in our function room. The Cross Keys is located in the quiet village of Selattyn, close to Offa's Dyke footpath and 3 miles from the market town of Oswestry. The historic towns of Chester and Shrewsbury are only 30 minutes away. A post office and shop are less than 5 minutes by car and there are numerous places to eat within 15 minutes drive. The area is quiet, very beautiful and will be especially attractive to walkers, bird watchers, golfers, fishermen and those who appreciate fine beer. Attached to The Cross Keys is a Self Contained Self Catering Cottage, this is close to Offa's Dyke and ideal for walkers. ... more   less
