Travelling to and from Scotland to the West Country we have tried all sorts of overnight stops. The problem always is whether to settle for the compromise between convenience/accessibility and economy, plus where to eat. The Ecclefechan hotel solves the problem! Just off the route North and South, with good rooms and food at reasonable prices, it delivers a value for money solution. Private off-road car parking, and a cheery welcome add that little bit more.

Rooms are modern and comfortable while retaining some of the features of the old building. We stayed in a twin room which was spacious with comfortable beds and a lovely bathroom containing a bath and a shower.
Hotel is just off the M^ so convenient for those travelling to Scotland from England. Pleasant little village with a Spa shop opposite the hotel.
Mary, the owner, will do anythibg she can to accommodate any requests and she is a wonderful cook. We ate in the bar in the evening and enjoyed a 'full Scottish breakfast' in the morning.
Free wifi worked very well.

For anyone travelling between Scotland and England this is a great family run hotel. They are currently upgrading the rooms, the one we had was very well done, a large room with a decent sized bathroom and very comfy beds. The food is very well priced at £9.95 for most main courses. We were travelling with a dog who was well looked after and were able to have our evening meal and breakfast in the bar so we didn't have to leave him in the room. There is a park nearby with poo bins so no problem there either. We will definitely be back.

We really liked this little traditional hotel. It’s our first visit and I hope we will be back. At
the beginning of a family break to Fife we broke up our journey from Worcestershire with an overnight stay here. Can’t fault it, from the genuine welcome we received to our departure it was all too notch. It looks like the bedrooms have been recently decorated and upgraded (we had two rooms numbers 7 and 9) and they were superb! Lovely bathrooms, clean and well proportioned loads of hot water from proper showers with loads of fluffy towels! Beds new and comfortable so no complaints. Had a nice dinner in the traditional bar with a nice open fire, couple of drinks, not overly expensive.

Next morning breakfast was a hearty affair - suggest the full Scottish if you feel hungry - all very agreeable. I really wish I had some negatives but I don’t. To sum up; great hotel, clean and bright rooms, great grub, nice people.

After a stressful few months we needed a break so headed up to the Ecclefechan Hotel. There are good safety measures in place - everyone had to wear a mask entering and moving around the hotel and there was great care taken to ensure people felt safe. The rooms were comfortable and cosy with plenty of hot water and a great shower. The best things about the hotel is Mary's cooking!!! wow we were well fed! Mick lovely the full Scottish Breakfast - with everything cooked to perfection! I went for a light breakfast which was also good. We planned to eat out a night but after our meal in the hotel on the first night we decided to eat there all the time as the food was superb and such reasonable prices. We are now planning another trip back to this fabulous hotel. Great location too - near the Solway Coast and close to Dumfries and lots of charming small towns round about. We had a great day out at Kirkcudbright and plan to go back there again.

Decided to stop here en route to Northern Scotland. Barely a minute off the A74 with parking at the rear. Comfy bed, nice room for a very reasonable price. Breakfast was good and well served. Would stop here again quite happily and recommend it.
I didn't use the bar or have a bar meal but probably will next time. Staff friendly and helpful. Parts are being done up/redecorated which can't be economic sense in the current covid climate but well done for getting with it.
After sitting on the M6 for 6 hours it is nice to be where I could relax and rest.
Thank you.

Arriving in Ecclefechan on a dreigh evening in the gloaming might not show the town nor this hotel at its best. However there was a lovely warm fire going in the bar and a warmer welcome behind it. Sadly this was in times of Covid with strict rules about alcohol that were hammering bars, hotels and restaurants. That said, we enjoyed a meal in the bar and were able to take some drinks to our room. The breakfast - served by the proprieter, Mary Kelly - was just the ticket for the second part of our long trip and cooked just to a tea. The pot of tea was spot on too. The room was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and the bed afforded a good night's sleep. The hotel is very good value.

Attended a local sporting event at the end of October and used this hotel as base camp for 2 days. The owner (Steve) made us feel very welcome and delivered some fantastic dishes from his kitchen. The hotel offers a number of key features like free onsite parking and a well stocked bar.

Carl.

Myself, my partner and his little girl turned up at ecclefechan hotel on Friday the 14th of July at 18.30 to see if they had any rooms available as our journey from Blackpool back home to Angus ended up being a disaster. We were greeted by a lovely lady and man who made us feel very welcome. The lady who I assume is the owner managed to get us a family room organised for the night and made sure we had everything we needed. We could not be any more thankful to them both for helping us in a time that was really stressful. We had the best nights sleep and we’re ready to face the 3 hour journey back home. Thank you both so very much for helping us we really appreciate it!
