Visited as time-share members. Great location in the region for a 'base camp' for us! Quiet, peaceful location. Grounds are well maintained, as are the units. Our unit was cozy and very well-equipped and we had a washer/dryer in unit, although there is a laundry facility on-site. Managers, Rae and Jim were delightful, and their mid-week guest dinner was well... More

Undoubtedly it was one of the best timeshare accomodation that we have ever got from RCI. We stayed in Unit 14, a very spacious, comfortable and clean, fully equipped - including washing machine and drier, one bedroom unit. Jim and Rae were very gracious hosts. Rae's home made orange scone for the Saturday morning coffee was really lovely. There are... More

The managers of this site Jim & Rae are very welcoming and they look after the site conscientiously and with great care. The accommodation is of a high standard and is clean and well equipped. There is a spa and outside pool which would be great in the summer. The location is not great for views although it is handy... More

this is the best place to stay if you want to catch trout, walk the Tongariro River or Lake Rotopounamo, visit Waiouru Military Museum after a drive down the Desert Road, or drive to the ski fields, or just drive around the mountain, not forgetting a quick trip up to Taupo. The unit was well equipped and comfortable, and the facilities in the resort were very good. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and always ready to offer assistance. The Saturday morning get-together was a highlight - lovely home-made scones, and a plethora of information from local tourist operators and Jim, about the history of the area and activities. A... Very, very friendly welcome to this lodge. Rae was a lovely lady and so happy to see us. She had upgraded us to a fully self-contained house - connected to one other. It was gorgeous. All lined with pine. Large bedroom. Terrific kitchen. Large bathroom with a washing machine and dryer. Large deck with our own outdoor setting. Lovely and... More

Kaimanawa Lodge is a Time Share (we are Time Share owners) catering primarily for longer stays of around one week. This is hardly enough time to cover this beautiful part of New Zealand with everything from Lakes, rivers, mountains all within an easy drive and there is much to experience within an easy walk from Kaimanawa Lodge... There are lots... More

The two of us enjoyed our quaint stay at this lodge. It's in the middle of the north island and is centrally located to attractions. Hosts, Jim and Rae have made this a home away from home. Our 1-bedroom had EVERYTHING we needed. The only drawback was no wifi. We decided not to purchase the service and logged on to... More

We had a fantastic stay at Kaimanawa Lodge. The hosts/manager couple, Jim and Ray, who run the lodge are friendly, helpful and had loads of good advice regarding things to do in the area. The area itself has far too much to do for a week, so one can comfortably visit Kaimanawa Lodge more than once. We had a beautiful... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
You'll find Kaimanawa Lodge in the town of Turangi at the southern end of Great Lake Taupo. The town is nestled in the bend of the mighty Tongariro River, bounded by the majestic mountains and the expansive lake. Moody, powerful, elemental, breathtakingly beautiful! It is a place that eases itself into your soul and never leaves. Modern and comfortable, the resort is perfect for those wanting to make the most out of their New Zealand escape. During the winter months, the towering snow-capped mountains are a haven for winter sports and the air reverberates with the gentle whisper of skis on fresh fallen snow. ... more   less
