Me and my partner had been away from each other for 3 months, and booked our trip in April to go in July as something to look forward to. It was really worth waiting for!

Our trip did get pushed back 2 weeks due to the pandemic and Government guidelines, however, the hotel contacted us well in advnace to inform us of any changes and booked us in straight away for the soonest time they could fit us in.

We were well informed of the new format around the hotel, including meals, sanitation stands, and the use of masks. When we arrived there we visors for staff, one way systems in place and felt very comfortable being there.

Our room was wonderfully spacious, clean and had the most amazing view of the sea and Robin Hoods Bay. We had the option to have 'Breakfast in Bed' at no additional charge, which was a wonderful addition to our trip. We were only there for one night, but really felt like we should have stayed two!

We had an evening meal there and the food was great. They had paper menus to reduce high touch of menus and served drinks at the table, we really felt like we got great service throughout, i can stress enough how easy it was to be there.

Breakfast was ordered the day before so they could prepare and bring up to our room, it was on time and there was plenty of it.

We cant wait to come back to Ravenhall, it has become a regular for us and we thank the hotel for their fantastic service and being able to let us stay in such uncertain times.

We spent one night at the hotel, it is an amazingly beautiful spot and we enjoyed our time there but it didn’t compare well with the smaller places we’d stayed for value for money. We enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast.
I appreciate that it is expensive and difficult at the moment for large hotels but attention to detail would help significantly.
Only one bathtowel and one hand towel for two people, I asked at reception for a second bath towel and was brought a bathrobe.
Two mini-shampoo bottles but no conditioner.
For the price of the room I’d have expected milk in a small fridge and maybe a minibar. We had little plastic UHT milk containers and not enough of those to make four drinks (I reckon you need at least two in each drink)
Rather brisk receptionist on arrival - not rude but could do better.
Underpowered hairdrier.

We have just spent 3 nights in one of the lodges.

We first visited the hotel in 1994 for my parents' Golden Wedding anniversary and we have returned a number of times since then, we last stayed in the hotel in September 2020. We decided on a lodge this time as the food was disappointing , particularly the breakfast.

The lodges have amazing views, and we especially enjoyed the upstairs balcony. Facilities in the kitchen are limited , but we managed. On our last evening our daughter came to stay for the night and as it was her birthday she wanted to order food from the snacks menu to eat in the Lodge. This was a big mistake.....we ordered toasted sandwiches that were supposed to be served with chips, instead we received crisps that were soggy because they were next to the salad, which my daughter found 2 insects in !! So, we couldn't eat the salad or the crisps and we decide that the coleslaw appeared to be from a cheap tub of mass produced stuff we didn't eat that either.
I mentioned this the following morning at reception when we went to collect our towels for a swim in the indoor pool (that's another story) and were told that this would be reported to the kitchen . But when we checked out some hours later and I asked if there had been any response from the kitchen, the same receptionist said that she hadn't managed to speak to anyone in the kitchen.
We will not be tempted to order food from the hotel on any future visits.

As regards the swimming experience, I really enjoy the pool, and we had it to ourselves as due to covid a slot has to be booked in advance. But whatever is in the water has completely ruined our swimwear!!!

We were excited about visiting this magnificent looking hotel for a belated 60th birthday night away. However whilst the hotel, grounds and views are splendid, there was nothing that made our stay here particularly special and the customer service was far from warm and welcoming. Cutting costs on things like toiletries and room refreshments doesn’t give a good first impression when you’ve paid almost £250 for a night here. The broken biscuits on our tea tray were unappetising The whole time we were there we didn’t see one of the staff crack a smile. When I asked if there was any conditioner and body lotion available, I got a blunt no from the receptionist. Whilst the food was good, as a couple in need of some peace and respite (I had made the reason clear when I booked), we didn’t appreciate being sat next to 8 loud, self opinionated men at dinner, in the end it got too much for me, and I had to leave the dining hall. Neither did we appreciate someone hoovering outside our room 8 am when we’d booked at late breakfast. Over all, very disappointing. We won’t be back x

We're sorry you feel you didn't have the usual customer experience we offer and surprised at some of the comments as we haven't cut costs on toiletries and do have extra available on request at reception. Apologies these weren't supplied and you felt the break wasn't relaxing on this occasion. We're sorry you won't be returning.

Ok… so first weekend away since second lockdown. We spent a night at the Raven Hall Hotel in Ravenscar. We had booked one of the lodges. £175 a night not including breakfast which was nearly £15 a head more.
The really great point… amazing views from out patio of the North York’s coastline up to Robin Hoods Bay.The review starts to go downhill from here.
Let’s start at the best bits… staff very friendly and breakfast was cooked not buffet and was good… for £15 it should be great. They have beautifully manicured gardens… shame they can’t do this to the building inside and out.
Our room was reasonably clean with bath/shower, fridge, microwave and wide screen TV. The flush fittings for the toilet were broken as were the shower taps. Paintwork was grubby with radiators that looked like they haven’t been cleaned for years (exactly the same in the restaurant but they were falling apart).
Hot water was restricted to barely enough for a foot deep bath or two showers…. You then have to wait another hour for more hot water. Now don’t forget £175 not inc breakfast.
Other than gardening, not sure what they did during lockdown but sure as hell they didn’t do much to the hotel.
This place could be so much better and it’s set in an amazing location. It just needs some TLC inside and out and for the price they charge they should.
Daft thing is that I would stay there again… why? The location… simple as that.
It will be no surprise that the place was busy and probably full.

My wife and I travelled up to the Raven Hall from Leeds with our dog to meet with our friends who were staying at the hotel. It was an awful day with the rain lashing down, we were soaked just getting from the car park to the reception. Our friends were in the spacious lounge bar which was nice and quiet. On arrival we were told we could only sit in the two pokey rooms off reception because we had a dog! Both rooms were full with people without dogs so we were forced to stand in reception to drink our much needed coffees. While we uncomfortably stood in the reception area another couple arrived having walked 10 miles along the beach with their dog only to be told they too would have to remain in the now rather cramped reception area! We asked the reception staff if they could make an exception and allow us to sit in the almost desserted lounge bar as we and the other couple wanted to have lunch. Despite the current economic climate we were forced to leave and drive ten miles down the road to Robin Hoods Bay to a lovely pub called the Victoria where we spent over £100 on food and drinks. £100 that the Raven Hall missed out on... good luck with the recession guys!!!!!

Great views but thats pretty much where it ends. Hotel tired and run down, staff were ok, nothing exceptional but the food was terrible. Cheap sliced white bread used for sandwiches, crispy belly pork that was just slimy fat, a curry that was a tin of tomatoes with a few chick peas and absolutely no Spice whatsoever. It had some big uneven chunks of courgette in it, weird and basically inedible. We had room service for breakfast and the bacon sandwiches were served in a polystyrene box, 2 slices of tissue thin bread, no butter, greasy bacon and not even cut in half. Unbelievable. We ended up eating out on our way back from our sightseeing and buying cheese and french bread to eat in the room. There is absolutely no excuse for serving such dreadful food, I understand that things have been tough for the hotel industry this year but cutting costs by serving rubbish is very shortsighted. We will never go back to this hotel and would never recommend it to anyone.

I stayed for 2 nights on 18th July, it was a trip with my mother. I had a standard room 131 which was a dog friendly room. The room itself was very tired and badly needed a new carpet, initially I was disappointed with the room and complained at reception. The young lady at reception was incredibly professional and dealt with the complaint with sensitivity and calmness. The hotel was fully booked and it was not possible to move. However, the bedding and towels were of very good quality and reception provided me with a fan. We had exceptionally hot weather that weekend, and the windows were very small making the small room very hot.

We ate outside or in the lounge as I had my dog with me and I have to say that both the service and food were absolutely outstanding. Particular thanks to Daniel and his wife in the restaurant who went out of their way to ensure that we were well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we asked to have breakfast outside, within minutes the table was set and tea, coffee, toast delivered with a smile. Absolutely everything we ate, we loved, the best caesar salad I have ever tasted. I thought the prices were reasonable, but the lovely service, polite staff and smiles just made it a lovely experience.
Receptionists were always helpful and happy to help and really made the overall experience exceptional. Even though a wedding was taking place, we still felt very much looked after and felt that service was quick and professional. A lovely old hotel, in a fantastic location. The reals stars were the staff, every single one of them greeted you with a smile and were a credit to the hotel. I will be returning without a doubt in the future.

I stayed here for two nights, the grounds are superb 🤩. A fortified garden towards the cliff edge where Grey seals can be seen below. The location is absolutely stunning with views right across the sea/ beach to Robin Hoods Bay.
unfortunately the hotel is slightly dated. So much more could be added to create a much greater ambience and encourage more customers to return.
Breakfast was mediocre and the atmosphere inside the hotel was dull.... not even background music playing (very clinical)
I must point out a member of staff ELLEN .,. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable, would go out of her way just to make our stay pleasurable.
The room was dated and shower head was broken.

We've chosen Raven Hall Hotel to be our first hotel to visit after Covid rules relaxed and it was a really good choice.
Staff is absolutely exceptional - couldn't do enough for you (receptionists, room service and restaurant staff - thank you guys for making us feel safe and welcomed!).
Hotel is Covid safe, staff are wearing masks at all times, guests are required to wear theirs when moving around, you've got hand sanitizers available on every corner.
Our room was a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spotless. Shower pressure good, water nice and warm.
Food in the restaurant fresh and tasty with menu changing on daily bases.
The views are to die for. Location is superb, very quiet but close to Robin Hoods Bay or Whitby. Plenty of places to see. It's good to have your trekking shoes with you because you can walk all the way down the cliff if you're feeling up to it.
It was an excellent stay and we will definitely be back!!
