Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I've stayed at Samlesbury Hotel at least once a week since Aug 2023 and have found it to be impeccable. The team is so polite, helpful and nothing is too much work. I would like to give a special mention to Elzbieta/Ella who has made my stay exceptional every time, she truly makes me feel like I'm home away from home when I'm at the Samlesbury. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone in the area who needs a comfortable stay for a few nights. Thank you!

Visited this hotel on business with a group of 8 for two days, one night. The staff were very kind and clearly worked very hard and were welcoming. The rooms were ok and were clean. The restaurant looked nice. However this was sadly overshadowed by the absolutely dreadful, dreadful food served for lunch on both days and in the restaurant that evening as well as the general conference facilities. The lunch was exactly the same for both days - really awful sandwiches and chips (chips were ok on day 1, awful on day 2). There was one cup and one glass each so if you wanted to have a coffee and then a tea, there were no fresh cups. Lunch was not cleared away all day and dirty plates were just left all afternoon. Jugs of room temperature tap water. No power sockets on the table for laptops etc. Screen positioned where it could not be plugged in (although a lovely member of staff did get us an extension cable). The fire alarm went off around 4 times during our stay. Dirty dishes outside a room (not any of our group) were left on the floor for over 12 hours. Dinner at the restaurant was really awful. No staff behind the bar, we had to hunt for someone. There was clearly only one member of staff (who again, was lovely) doing absolutely everything. The Caesar salad was lettuce, onion, poor quality chicken and no dressing. The same chicken was deposited alongside a tasteless tomato sauce on the spaghetti for a pasta dish, which four of our group found virtually inedible. The Parmesan for sprinkling was oddly cut into chunks! The burger was ok if a little cold. We did complain and were offered a replacement pizza which was also fairly grim. Breakfast was ok in the morning and the coffee machine coffee was very nice. The hotel generally was also very cold, although we could put the heater on in our conference room which helped. Very disappointing, sadly I cannot recommend. I felt really sorry for the staff and only gave two stars because they were so pleasant. After two days, I was shattered and just wanted to get home so couldn’t face waiting around to complain.

Truly excellent for a budget hotel. I have stayed here many times. It was once a luxury hotel (but Covid really set it back), so you get all the amenities for a fraction of the price. Ella and Aggie were so friendly and helpful and were very kind to laugh at my jokes. Only one criticism; the breakfast plates were cold

I don’t normally write reviews but had a lovely stay here for one night. Ella and the rest of the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The room was nicely decorated, clean and bed was very comfy. The gym had everything you need for a decent work out and breakfast was delicious. It was very quiet too, very accessible from local motorways and loads of parking.

I have stayed here a few times before. As always the hotel itself is clean and comfortable. On this occasion, I arrived after 8pm and my room was absolutely freezing, reception provided me with a heater but unfortunately due to health issues the heater was not enough. Liz was very kind, patient and professional and she arranged for me to be moved to a room with a built in wall heater, she even helped me move my bags etc. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was very understanding. I did not eat in the bar on this visit, but breakfast was lovely and out of nowhere Liz came over for a chat to make sure I was ok and to check if I had a pleasant night. Hotels can be very lonely when you travel on your own but with the personal approach I was provided on this visit , I will definitely be staying again.

I have stayed at this particular hotel on many occasions whilst visiting my partner and up until now I could only say good things about it but on this occasion I have to put a negative comment. My partner and I stayed Saturday night (2/12) and were woken up at 1 am by the fire alarm going off. We tried going back to sleep but 15-20 minutes later were woken by the alarm going off for a second time. This may seem trivial and could be excused had it not been for the fact we’d stayed two weeks prior (18-19 nov) and were woken by the fire alarm going off at 6am 4 times!!! In November we were told it was a guest leaving the bathroom door open whilst having a shower but when I went to talk to the night staff on this occasion they didn’t seem to know why it had gone off and that the fault had been reported and assured me it wouldn’t go off again, which it didn’t. My concern is that if the alarm is faulty and it seems that it goes off on a regular basis as I’ve read on another persons review a few days after my partner and I stayed in November it went off on a week day, that how will they know if it’s a real fire that has set it off or the faulty alarm playing up, potentially putting peoples lives at risk. I had a 3 1/2 hour drive back south to do after having a broken nights sleep. Not acceptable.

I would like to take the opportunity of thanking you for your much valued feedback in relation to your recent experience with us. It was very upsetting to read your comments as it appears we have failed to meet the very high standards of service and care which we have set ourselves. I was extremely disappointed to read your comments relating to the alarms being raised and that this is not the first time. I can assure you I will be investigating this incident personally and action will be taken where it is necessary, as customer safety is something we are passionate about here at the hotel and will not faulter on. If you would like to contact me direct I would be happy to discuss further, once again my sincere apologies Kind regards

This hotel offers excellent value . The front has been tidied since my last visit and looks a whole lot better. The staff are kind and accommodating The rooms are a tad on the small side , but well presented clean and relaxing. The bathrooms are very modern and new with excellent water pressure and temperature. The gym is excellent as always. Breakfast is acceptable. I also like the fact you can open the windows and not just rely on air con that the hotel does not have, fresh air so much better The staff really make this place as it is now an independent hotel I hope it does not get bought by a chain and lose its identity.
