This goes back to October, so apologies for the delay. Tried their Champagne Breakfast for a lazy Sunday chill out. The service, ambience and surroundings were excellent. The French (?) Maitre D' was first class. However, after discussing our experience with friends who have experienced the Champagne Breakfast, it seems my smoked salmon with poached egg should have been twice what it was! Looking at the menu description AND the picture, I should have had a muffin cut into two with a poached egg on each muffin half! However, everything else WAS great, and I'll visit again when they're open. Oh, I'll ensure I get the proper size next time! Still, a 8/10 visit

No fillet steak and no apple crumble, really what kind of business is this, made excuses they only order 20 fillet steak for two of th busiest evenings, Friday & Saturday, how can any restaurant worth its grade have no fillet steak on a Saturday evening and 7 o clock at that - avoid this place as they don’t care

This was our first visit. It was a #eatouttohelpout day. Although there was a one way system due to Covid it was not being enforced Staff very pleasant however service very slow. We also had to ask staff to place our orders for drinks and our courses and the bill. The food was well presented and tasty. We may visit again to see if the service is any better. Lovely ambience and surroundings.

Having ventured out for a couple of “eat out to help out” meals At other restaurants I must say I was really disappointed at the Royal Arms. Upon arrival no one greeted us, we managed to walk to our table where the other members of our party were already there. No signs on floor directing a one way system, no hand sanitiser at entrance and even more worrying the cutlery and glasses were already laid out on the table. We were handed our “one time use” menus which clearly said they were disposed of after every use however we watched the waitress throw them back on the pile when we had finished with them. Likewise the dessert menu was handed to us straight from another table. However on a positive the meal was delicious, it’s just a shame that we felt COVID unsafe and couldn’t wait to get out of the place. If they just took a bit of time and effort to change a few simple things it would certainly make the whole eating out experience more enjoyable.

The waitress asked us if the food was “okay” and that’s exactly what it was! Nothing was cooked badly but the food was bland. Corn-fed chicken breast was cooked nicely but the best thing on the plate was the potato, there was also too much mint in the mushy peas with the cod and chips. Thank goodness is was subsided by the government otherwise I wouldn’t have been happy to have paid that price! Service however was great and good social distancing measures were in place!
