We were very impressed by our 12 night stay at this lovely hotel. The staff were excellent. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The location was amazing, both for walks in Mlini and also the proximity to Dubrovnik. We stayed in the annexe in a superior room with a balcony. We thoroughly enjoyed looking out at the wonderful sea views. The hotel breakfasts were plentiful with a wide variety of food. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evenings as we chose to eat in the local restaurants. We are happy to recommend this hotel to others, and look forward to returning one day.

Top marks to Hotel Astarea in almost all areas. Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, great sea views, good staff, convenient parking and most important to me, everything is really accessible to someone with limited mobility. From our room on the third floor, one lift descends via reception and restaurant to the bar and beach level. Originally we had a room in the annexe, but the staff realised this would be a problem for me as all the facilities are in the main hotel and the annexe is a couple of hundred yards away up a slope. It was no problem to them to allocate us a room in the main building. Also, the hairdryer packed up and it was replaced with a new one within the hour. Great service provided with a smile.
The only slight downside was the food for my friend who is a vegetarian. Plenty of choice for me, but not enough choice for her. The self-service buffet was always hot and empty dishes replaced quickly.
The room had tea and coffee-making facilities and a fridge. Although the brochure told us the swimming pools would be closed and there would be a charge for sun beds on the beach, neither of these was true with the outdoor pools open and sunbeds free of charge.
I have no reservation in recommending this hotel, located as it is in a delightful area close enough to Dubrovnik.

Location: The hotel is located in an area called Mlini on the way from Dubrovnik airport to Dubrovnik City.
Because of its location, the availability of restaurants and eating places is limited. The availability of public transport such as bus service may also be limited, although a boat or ferry service is possible. Our rental car made it convenient to travel to Dubrovnik. However the car parking was near impossible or extremely expensive. This hotel however seems to be ideal for tour groups. During our stay, a new tour group seemed to arrive daily and depart the next day.
Buffet type of breakfast and dinner were available. The variety of food was very good. The restaurant area was very busy due to large number of tourists arriving as tour groups. The entire staff was very helpful and courteous.
Tea/Coffee making facility was available. But as I recall, there was no mini fridge. The room was clean.
All the rooms appeared to have seaside view. There is convenient access to the beach/pool area. There is also a very well laid-out walkway (connecting all the beach side hotels and accommodation units in the area) along the entire beach area behind the hotel.

Great stay, where to start? Hotel is absolutely gorgeous, pool is unreal, almost an infinity pool with view to the sea. Beach is 1 min walk away from the hotel if so. Mlini is a great area to stay, as it’s a small village that has everything you need, bars, restaurants, restaurant by the sea is part of the hotel and food and drinks are really nice and reasonably priced. We pay a bit extra to have sea view and it’s so worth it, nothing beats the sound of the sea, that gorgeous view, the sound of the birds in the morning. Because it’s a small village, it’s so peaceful even though it has everything you need. You can go on a short stroll to the next village, walk by the sea and that village has way more offer when it comes to restaurants and bars. Bus is not very far which takes you to Dubrovnik but we recommend taking the taxi ferry which was much better. Takes around 25 min by boat to get to Dubrovnik and 18 min to another fish little village called cavtat. Room was excellent and modern , hotel has gym, pool, ping pong, spa, piano bar, so if the weather is not great there’s a lot to do in the hotel. We recommend a bar nearby called gusar, little pirate bar with excellent views, good music and service. If you fancy going for a little walk, there’s some ruins nearby and a nudist beach, 10 min walk from the hotel, there was literally no one there and had more fantastic views and it was a pretty cool experience. Only thing that could be improved was food, we stayed as half board, so even though food had some variety, it wasn’t particularly hot at times, so because of this I would give 4.5 stars to this hotel. Anyway , lunch in the restaurant by the sea was always pretty good and not very expensive. This place is superb when it comes to tranquility if that’s what you want but also it’s a 15 min drive to Dubrovnik (Uber is a way more cheaper option than taxi). Supermarket is 1km away, not very big but it has everything you need. There’s also a shop inside the hotel if you want to get souvenirs, tobacco , snacks or drinks. There’s also another small shop by the church right next to the hotel to get some cold beverages or beach gear. Staff was nice and accommodating, housekeeping really good , they change towels every day and give you beach towels (they don’t change these, mind). There’s so much to do here, we LOVED these holidays and can’t recommend enough! Thank you for having us!

We enjoyed a week at the Astarea. On arrival, we were taken by electric buggy to our annexe room by a helpful and friendly staff member so we didn't have to carry the luggage. The standard of cleanliness in the public areas is very high and our room was immaculately prepared on arrival and cleaned to a high standard every day (thank you, Kristina). The room had a lovely view of both the sea and the hillside, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning adequate. The shower room was small but perfectly fine, and the shower itself of a good size and with a powerful flow of water. The pool area is, as other reviewers have said, impossible to use, as guests are waiting to bag the sun beds at 0800 daily and leave their towels out all day, regardless of how long they use them. We preferred to pay for beds and a parasol on the beach (€20 per day), with a lovely view, a sea breeze and better people watching, but others understand others will find the lack of beds round the pool and cost of hiring on the beach disappointing. The hotel restaurant staff are mainly young and pleasant, the supervisor Marijana is friendly and keen to make sure guests are happy. There is a good choice at breakfast, but the evening buffet can be a little repetitive. That said, it is regularly replenished and there was usually a delicious meat or fish option to chose from, fresh vegetables and a range of salads. Croatian wine is very good and bottles started at around €22. The option of some good value wine by the carafe would be appreciated. The Oleander beach bar/cafe offers good food and a wide range of drinks, and can be very busy. Service there ranged from excellent to morose. The setting of the hotel is lovely, though some areas of the grounds could do with a little tlc. The fitness centre looked up to date and well equipped (we didn't use it) and the pool tables and table tennis facilities on the lower ground floor were well used by guests. All in all, for a three star hotel, an enjoyable and pleasant stay.

We had such an amazing time at Hotel Astarea. Firstly we would like to thank all the staff for making us feel at home and I would like to mention in particular our housekeeper Sanja for taking care of us daily and for the extra touch and attention to details on what we liked, Lovorko for helping us with different queries at the reception and brilliant customer service.
Location is superb, just 15 minutes away from the madness of old city Dubrovnik but it makes a difference if you would prefer something quieter and peaceful.
You can arrange different tours from the hotel ( Elaphiti Islands, Mostar and much more ) and boat taxis to Cavtat and Dubrovnik. Also the hotel offers pick up and drop off from the airport, shuttle bus to Dubrovnik old city, services that we used and I definitely recommend them.
Breakfast was absolutely beautiful, it has everything you would fancy ( definitely try the pancakes with nutella chocolate and dry bananas for a bit of crunch), dinner is different each evening and you will find plenty types of salads and other dishes.
The pebble beach has crystal clear water and lots of fish swimming in it, so don't forget your goggles and rock shoes.
We haven't spent so much time at the pool because we prefer the sea but it was very clean and the view is lovely.
If you are an animal lover, outside the hotel you can find a few cats that will be so grateful if you feed them : Scary Cat- ( a grey cat that it's afraid oh her own shadow), Baby Ginger and Jefe Ginger and Buster - a mix of black and orange that sticks his tongue out all the time. If you walk to Pizzeria Mlini you will find the Old Guy, think he is around 12 - 15 years and if you have some spare change get him some wet food ( no teeth), we even received a cuddle and massage from him.
So, in conclusion we would definitely recommend this hotel and we will come back again for sure.

Until next time Croatia 🇭🇷

We stayed here for 7 nights from 20 May. After 2 weeks of terrible weather before we arrived, our weather was great with temperatures of 26° or more and only a couple of quick showers of rain. We stayed in rooms 441 and 442 which had 2 single beds in each, sea and mountain views, balconies, tea and coffee making facilities, soap dispenser on wall beside sink and in shower, small shampoo, bars of soap, shower caps, hairdryer, safe. Breakfast was plentiful. Hotel has small shop selling souvenirs, snacks, water. Room clean and tidy and serviced every day. Probably the quietest hotel at night that I've ever stayed at, so you can get a good nights sleep, if you leave the balcony door open you can be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves on the shore. Advise taking bus nr 10 to Dubrovnik (€2.90 single) which turns up at the bus stop at approx 9.20 am and Cavtat (€3.20 single) at 9.35 am, rather than the boats as they are a lot more expensive and take longer and certainly the Adriana boat company don't seem to keep to any kind of schedule. Don't miss the ruins of the abandoned summer villa accessed from a little path near the hotel villas (further down this path take the upper path at the crossroads, the lower goes to the nudist beach). Also the waterfalls at the right of the bridge in the village centre and more up the hill up many steps. Srebeno is an easy walk along the front which has a large shopping centre and further on the abandoned ruins of hotels from the Homeland War at Kupari.

The hotel does exactly what you expect in our opinion! The rooms are well equipped maybe a little on the small side but but clean tidy with everything you need! Towels changed daily, pool towels changed when nesecary no hidden charges that includes pool towels/sunbeds/ safety box FOC.
We were B&B and the outside terrace for breakfast is superb.
The food was excellent with a great choice everyday and in particular if you wanted the British style bacon and eggs you could hot it up easily with a simple to use microwave.
The pool area is wonderful with plenty of beds and parasols to go round and a 60second amble to the beach!
The staff looking after our needs were all absolutely brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Will we return? You bet we will!
Thank you Asterea you made our holiday special.

This is a very nice hotel. Its situated on quite a hill. If you were walking out of here to walk to town the driveway up to the road is very steep. You can walk out of the hotel to the beach front and walk along to the town this way its much easier. There are a few resturants close by and the prices are much the same. Some nice food to be had. We did find that some of the locals were not too friendly, even in the shops when you were spending money, 'curt' would be the best way to explain this. There is a water taxi service from closeby to Dubrovnik and other locations along the coast. Quick and not too expensive. Best way to go to Dubrovnik as you can see the coastline and all around. The hotel is clean and the staff were generally helpful. Pools and lounge area clean. The food was average, and warm. The beach bar seems to be the most popular area and we found the food was quite good and quickly served. We did go to the beach most days. If you like to swim, bring swim shoes as the beach is pebbles !!! you can enter the water close to the hillside and its a bit more sandy there. Things like drinks etc can add up. I enjoyed the break, not sure I would choose this location again though.

Great location if you want a quiet place to relax in close proximity to Dubrovnik.

Our room was in the main hotel. It looked like the annex is a bit of a walk uphill. The room was small and basic but clean. The bathroom was small but clean and modern. We had a balcony at the side of the building which had a nice sea view to the side and a mountain view. The room was cleaned regularly.

Breakfast was quite good. A lot of choice - breads, fruit, cooked breakfast, pancakes and cheeses/hams etc. Food often a little cold but I noticed there was a microwave which could be used if needed. We were bed and breakfast but we paid to use the restaurant one evening. It was pretty standard hotel hot buffet food, no real complaints but not amazing. I’m not sure I would want to eat all meals at the hotel so bed and breakfast was perfect for us.

The views from the hotel pool overlooking the sea are beautiful. The pool area is nice and clean. We read about the sunbed issues but this wasn’t a problem for us during our visit in mid September.

The beach is right in front of the pool and the sea is crystal clear. There are sun beds on the beach with a charge. You will need aqua shoes to go in the sea as it’s rocky.

There is a lovely bar/restaurant on the seafront at the bottom of the pool. We went there almost daily for lunch and had an evening meal there. You can charge to your room and you get 10% off. We also visited the Piano bar in the main hotel which has lovely views and nice cocktails.

Mlini is a small place but there are several restaurants in walking distance, which is a nice stroll across the seafront. There are a lot of options for getting to Dubrovnik. We opted for the boat trip which was a lovely way to see the scenery although it did leave a little later than scheduled so bear this in mind. There are also options to get a taxi, bus or hotel shuttle bus.

Overall I would recommend Hotel Astarea, it is a nice clean hotel with stunning views, in a quiet area convenient for visiting Dubrovnik, accessing daytrips and close to the airport.
