The Barcelo Fuerteventura Mar, nestled close to the beach and marina, is favored for its spacious rooms and prime location, with easy access to local attractions. While the hotel's cleanliness and modern amenities, including multiple pools, are often praised, some guests have had issues with privacy, ants, and noise. The service quality receives mixed reviews, as staff friendliness and cleanliness contrast with slow bar service and reception challenges. Despite the lively entertainment, opinions on atmosphere and value vary, with extra charges for certain amenities and all-inclusive packages leaving some guests wanting more.

Stayed for one week as a couple. Check-in little slow but had a large number all on one coach. Polite and efficient service. A large complex with plenty of communal seating areas, there are about 20 sofa 'pods'in the main reception, a further dozen seating at and around the bar and a large entertainment room. Plenty of sun beds around the pools and lots of space for kids to play or couples to hide away. Arranged over three floors with lifts I imagine it is still wheelchair friendly with wide open access throughout. One pool is heated, only a little, so you need to be brave at this time of year. The hotel is situated on the beach front with a short promenade between and small sandy walk to the shoreline. Shops nearby out the front with the usual ample tourist shops and selection of restaurants. There are plenty of bike and scooter hire places near too. The onsite restaurant offers a huge selection. A typical breakfast has a the essentials for a full english, continental and extras including pancakes, omelette made to order, cereals, fruit and pastries. Dinner offers four or five dishes such as pork stew, veal escalopes or chicken. Plus a huge salad and sliced meat range. Something for everyone in the relaxed buffet style restaurant. Menus and entertainment schedule can be viewed on a large interactive display. The superior room is large with walk in shower, twin beds, sofa, tv, and small decked area with outside jacuzzi bath. Daily cleaning and fresh towels. Things to note: no cash transactions for drinks, they are all charged to room to settle at checkout. On half board these add up quickly though bar measures are VERY generous. Pool towel hire is 10 euro each. When at shops buy peanuts! A walk along the seafront to the rocky area will guarantee an opportunity to hand feed the chipmunks. Even the laziest of travelers will enjoy the ebike hire and it's a great way to explore. Finally if you forget anything go to the nearest China Shop as they probably have it and it's cheap.

We have just come back and this is the second time we have stayed at this hotel.
When we arrived we checked in swiftly and went to our room. I would have been annoyed if we had been kept waiting as it seemed quite a few were after travelling from 4.30am. Tour operates should negotiate with the hotel and make sure rooms are ready on arrival not sitting having to wait around reception in winter clothes. Our room was clean and spacious. The air con was rubbish but we managed. We had a Superior room so a kettle and coffee machine was included as were bath robes and toiletries. I did find the hairdryer very hard to use and nearly got repetitive strain injury holding the button in.
The pool areas very clean and tidy with so many staff working around them. The heated pool was lovely just be brave and walk straight in. Some tiles were missing and I managed to cut my foot but it must be very difficult to drain a pool for repairs when you have hotel guests expecting to use it. We have been told that early in 2020 the hotel will close for refurbishment so I take it the pools will be sorted out then.

We really enjoyed stopping half board as we changed our evening meal to lunch just by going to the restaurant and telling them. We then went out a few times to eat which added variety. We did find the restaurant very busy and I think the hotel was full but lunchtime seemed calmer. The first time we visited the hotel my lasting memory was that the food was always luke warm but this time I found the food hotter with more variety. I do feel that changes have been made and there was always staff bring more food in, so well done, restaurant team. I did note that another reviewer had mentioned cockroaches in the rooms, restaurant and around the pool. There was certainly no evidence what’s so ever of these and staff were always so busy cleaning. I do know that the island can have this problem but whilst we were there, nothing seen.
Valet a de Fuste is a lovely place to visit with a long promenade to walk along. Great for a morning walk to burn off the calories or an after dinner stroll.
Restaurants we would recommend are:
Slow Boat 2. ( not to be confused with the upstairs New Slow Boat across the road) It is a little street Chinese restaurant across the square from the hotel. It looks a bit dated but the food is great and we had the set menu for 12.50 euros and it was delicious. Also the Tapas restaurant called My Tapas Restaurant 1966. Lovely tapas food with friendly staff.
All in all I would really recommend this hotel. Staff make you very welcome, the hotel is very clean and tidy. thank you Barcelo. We will be back.

I will be a honest as possible:
Rooms;: Very good, bright and mostly clean. Beds changed regularly, floors cleaned but cabinets not dusted regularly as there was layer of dust for consecutive days
3 days there were no towels left and has to wait until 9.30 am following morning after 3 phone calls, therefore had to use beach towels. However, we did mention this to the rep and the hotel sent us up a bottle of Cava which was nice
Pool area was lovely, lots of sun beds and kept really clean
Pool snack bar was quite poor, not much choice for lunch
Restaurant food was OK, nothing wrong with the actual food but a bit boring and repetitive. No themed nights. Had to eat out to get some variety. Also only got one drink with meals. No offer of refills, etc
Entertainment was hit and miss! Animation team worked very hard but not our taste to watch shows mimed!!
Bar areas are very comfortable and very pleasant to sit in both day and evening
Staff were mostly nice and friendly but did have to wait up to 35 minutes to get drink order taken at times
Although we were all inclusive, you have to play for mixers, such as tonic, ginger ale, etc and there are supplements for some drinks and some cocktails
Beach towels are 10 euros (refundable) but charge 2 euros if you want them changed
Not many shops in the surrounding area

My Partner Suzie and myself visited this Hotel from December 26th 2019 till January 5th 2020.
We stayed in a one bedroom bungalow in the grounds of the hotel on a self catering basis. We were originally given bungalow no. 3044, but complained about the lack of hot water for a shower, and we were subsequently moved to bungalow no. 2177.
No problem with hot water in this bungalow and a much better location and much newer and better appointed accommodation than the first one.
Fridge/Freezer, Hob, plenty of cupboards filled with pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, wine & soft drinks glasses.
Big enough bedroom, lounge, kitchen, bathroom with bath and shower, and a large balcony with a good sized table and four chairs, and still plenty enough room for two sun loungers
We had a very nice holiday, with great weather, although value for money was poor, but mainly because it was Christmas and New Year rates.
I checked later and if we’d been able to go earlier in December the price would have been considerably cheaper, hundreds of pounds per person in fact.
We would go back and we would recommend it to others.
Location to beach/ marina, shops, restaurants and bars is excellent, a short walk in all cases, and a very short car journey to and from the Airport 15 minutes maximum.
We can’t comment on the food unfortunately as we were self catering, but the bungalow was cleaned and towels changed every morning, and bedding every other day.
Pools were nice, clean and well maintained, as were the grounds.
All in all, just a nice place to stay.
One slight criticism, the wi-fi could be very hit and miss at times.

We have just come back from what I can only say was an amazing 7 night stay at this great hotel. Just a 15 minute airport transfer and you arrive at this hotel situated right by the beach, great location with plenty of bars, shops & restaurants on your door step. The 1st thing we noticed was how nice and friendly the reception were and when we asked if we could have a room in the same block as our friends who we traveled with they said it was no problem at all. Our room was in the same block as reception and was on the 3rd floor, the highest for this block although other blocks were higher. Very clean with a bath/shower, balcony, large TV and the most comfortable bed and soft pillows we have had for some time in a hotel! The reception staff pointed out that for an extra 24e per person per night you could go all inclusive and most of the drinks were branded which was perfectly true. The 4 of us took the all incl option and had for the next 7 days the midday meal, enjoyed the cocktails, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Malibu, wine and quite a few Baileys!! The bar staff were excellent as were the waiters and we never waited long to get a drink. The evening meal was our favorite with plenty of choice for all tastes, nice and hot some cooked fresh at the grill, and the Paellas were delicious especially the seafood ones. The staff here were helpful, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was just as good and if you wanted omelettes and freshly cooked eggs and bacon then you waited in line for a couple of minutes. Lunch was available both in the restaurant and by the pool if you were all inclusive. The evening entertainment was held in a large seating area adjacent to the main bar area, and I must say the resident entertainment team did a great a great job but the experienced acts they bought in were excellent. The 2 pools were large, clean and the one we used was heated with plenty of sunbeds and tables all around.
So all in all a great clean hotel, with fab 5* staff, great food and location. We just cannot wait to return.

Rebooked this hotel for a week in January 2020 having stayed here in February 2019. Both were last minute deals. Looking rather tired now and would benefit from an update, especially the bathrooms. The bed was comfortable and there was a choice of pillows. Meals were quite repetitive and often the food was cold. Queues for the 'show cooking' areas were long, especially at breakfast. There is supposed to be a dress code for the evening meal, but men were turning up in shorts and not challenged. This did not happen last year - they had to go and change. Floors in rooms really need to be washed properly, not just sprayed. Staff are very friendly and helpful and work very hard.

Dear David, We first would like to thank you for choosing our hotel for your holidays in Fuerteventura and for letting us know your concerns relating to your time in our hotel as it gives us an opportunity to look at areas which may have for improvement and for that we are grateful. We apologise if the current state of our facilities did not meet your expectations. Although this is not a newly-built hotel, we work hard to keep it in good condition so guests feel comfortable. We will forward your comment to the management team because customer feedback helps us to improve, and we will keep it in mind for future infrastructure renovations. Furthermore, we lament hearing that you had to queue for the show cooking stand, however as the food is prepared on the spot, depending on our guests' desired doneness, it may take a few minutes for the Chef to serve you and we regret your disappointment on this aspect of our services. Regarding the dress code, we would like to let you know that, according our current dress code, men are allowed to wear smart-casual shorts for evening meals. On the other hand we thank you for pointing out the kindness and enthusiasm of our staff, their friendliness and helpfulness being our hotels’ main strength we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us. Thank you once again for making us your choice hotel and for your constructive critics, we certaily look forward to serving you again and to have the opportunity to exceed you expectations in a not too distant future. Kind regards, Guest Experience Manager

Just got back from a relaxing week away at this hotel we had booked in for a AI week requested a ground floor room and were pleasantly suprised to see that you have your own little decking area with 2 sun loungers. It was quite windy the week we were there but if we were chilling out side our room there was no breeze at all which was realy plesant .we paid 20 euros to have the mid size minni bar package for the fridge which was realy good inc wine bottles of beer and pop .
There are local supermarkets nearby if you just want to get a few bits .ie pint of milk for your tea and coffe in the room kettel supplied and complimentary tea and coffe .
The hotel is amazingly clean cleaners work very hard ,and very accessible if you have walking difficulties as everywhere is flat and lifts available to each floor .
There are 2 pools 1 very cold and the other with a jacuzzi is lovely and warm .
Food is ok usual AI never went hungry ,only downside none of the food was labelled ie ingredients ,intolerances or even a description this i could say would be my only fault i could find in the hotel and something that could easily
We only eat at the main buffet resterant but there are 2 other places to eat at the hotel pool bar and paid resterant ( didnt eat in either so couldnt coment )
Would we retun 100%
Would we recommend 100%
Will will be back soon

Firstly I would like to start by saying if you are after a beautiful 4* hotel that is spotlessly clean in a central location that takes up a commending spot on the beach front then hotel for you, but this 4 storey hotel is big with approx 490 rooms and over 1200 guests, so may be would not like to be there during peak season.
The hotel reopened in Nov after a refurb.
The rooms are beautiful and quiet, most of them have sea/pool rooms.
We were in block 3 room the best block, quiet rooms situated around the quiet pool.
Block 1 is situated by a few bars and some rooms do not have pool/Sea view rooms.
Block 2 is situated around the main pool area.
Pools are good with the main pool being heated.
Bars, only 2 of the pool bar with great views of the beach is open until 11pm.
Then there is the inside bar situated on the first floor in the concert hall open until midnight.

Negatives
Do not waste your money going All inclusive at this hotel, you are treated like a second class citizen, food is 2* standard at best and no way is it 4*+ standard.
The food options are the worsted we have sampled in any hotel we have stayed in.
AI guests struggle to get a hot meal.
HB guests are allowed to change their meals from dinner to lunch at the pool bar and get a freshly cooked meal, while ALL Inclusive guests have to go to a section at the side of the pool bar to collect a warmed up burger and chips that have been pre cooked and left under a hot plate or make your own toasties!!

This is the same in the main restaurant, yes they do have a chef cooking fresh meat and fish, which is of poor quality and then you have to try and select something to a accompany it, the choice is very poor, again everything luke warm stored under a hot plate. The salad bar is a joke, no fresh meats or fish just different types of boiled eggs that have no doubt been left over from breakfast.
The only good point was the chef cooking fresh pasta,
If you have children I think they would also struggle and get bored of the food
They would definitely be living off warmed up food all day, every day.
There was never any ice cream in AI part of the pool bar and various people complained about this.
We ended up eating out side of the hotel.

Ordering a drink in the theatre bar, which was waiter only service was a disgrace if you had your AI band on the waiters would walk straight passed you and serve people that were paying for their drinks.
We stopped going and ended to going the pool bar in the evening.
I think the feeling you get from the hotel and its staff is that we have already had your money and they would rather concentrate on other guests that are not AI.
Drinks are also limited to AI guests until you upgrade again at a cost of approx £35 each per day to AI plus which is definitely not worth it.

A fabulous week at this large hotel. Would definitely return. Very varied buffet. Room safe is 3 euros a day but worth it for peace of mind. Everyone really friendly especially the bar staff and ladies cleaning the rooms who would always say hello as you walked past. Loads of sunbeds around the pools. 2 pools, a heated one and a non heated one. Great location next to the sea. Only man made beach on the island and very nice. Note if you want to hire a sunbed on the government owned beach not the cheapest ! Small harbour close by. Nice walks up or down the coast. Salt museum within reasonable walking distance. Varied and excellent entertainment every night in the hotel. Bar staff very attentive, especially if not a busy period. Bar staff were fabulous. If you fancied a change, lots going on within a 5 min walk outside the hotel. We booked through Tui and 3 TUI reps based in/around the hotel. Airport very close. Plenty of excursions available from the hotel. We did 3 and particularly enjoyed the off road trip to Cofete. A special mention for our guide/driver Mousa on the Cofete one. We really enjoyed our holiday. This hotel is on the flight path for the airport which is not surprising bearing in mind how close to the airport it is. I have never seen so many planes arriving on a weekend, but the arrivals do not spoil your holiday. One of the best hotels we have stayed in.

First time visit to the Hotel. It's not a bad place at all if you like big hotels. Unfortunately there aren't any smaller hotels in Caleta, apart from the Barcelo Royal Level, which would probably have suited us better, but costs an extra 250€ per week. We all have our budgets !
The hotel is very clean and well maintained in all areas. Rooms are OK and dated back to 2000 when it was built, but the beds are, as many have commented, super comfortable and hard to get out of ! I f you are a light sleeper you will need earplugs as the rooms and corridors are quite noisy. The air conditioning in our room was the best we have experienced in any hotel, so if you are coming in the warmer months this will be well appreciated.
The Hotel design is somewhat unusual in that the corridors are open and have a siberian feel to them especially at night.
Pool area is very nice and there are plenty of sunbeds, as well as a quieter area around the unheated second pool. with a large snack bar adjacent to the main pool that is reasonably priced. The Hotel is right on the beach, and very centrally located. Caleta is lovely. So quiet and chilled - unlike the buffet food hall in the Hotel which is like a train station at beakfast and dinner ! A good choice of food though, with nice cooked meats and fish on the live cooking station, and something I have never seen before in a Spanish hotel - proper back bacon, available on the show cooking stand, that was something I did not expect but appreciated. Some glaring omissions though, no fresh pineapple or mango on the fruit section, and no brown bread at all on the bread table
We did appreciate the free ample off street parking as we always hire a car, and the 5% gift meant that our bill on check out was next to nothing.
Compared to other hotels that we have stayed at in the Canaries, the Barcelo is OK and we enjoyed our stay, but there are plenty of better hotels around, so we are unlikely to return.

We will forward your comment to the management team because customer feedback helps us to improve, and we will keep it in mind for future infrastructure renovations. Moreover we are glad you enjoyed the beauty of our pool area as well as the comfort of our sunbeds We are also glad to read that you really enjoyed our unbeatable location to visit the wonders of a vacation in Fuerteventura. We lament reading that our buffet offer did not live up to your expectations. Being a little island, is not always that easy to get products like the ones you mentione. We strive to provide guests with new experiences by introducing local, natural and seasonal products. We appreciate the time you took to share your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the future. Kind regards, Guest Experience Manager

If AI you can use the buffet restaurants at the Castillo and The Mar (sister hotel a short walk away). No other restaurants free but money off food. The information is on the Barcelo app which is very useful. Laura Goleta is a lovely snack bar at the Marina. AI cocktails here and discount on food
