I have just got back from a 10 day girls holiday staying at this hotel. It IS far from the strip, we got 2 taxis a day at 6 euros each for our nights out and it was not walking distance unless you do have a lot of time to kill. The pool bar sells good hot food which we weren't aware of before we went, however there is a supermarket and a restaurant 5 minutes down the road. You can buy 6 large bottles of water from the pool bar for 2 euros so no need to worry about carting water up from the strip/shops. The cutlery/utensils given inside the rooms were disgusting so cooking our own food wasn't an option. The room however was basic but kept very very clean by the cleaner. Air con is expensive as hell, but we had to give in and buy it due to the heat and it was very effective- couldn't of lived without it once we bought it, even though it was 70 euros for one week! We also bought a safe for 15 euros as our door handle was almost hanging off. Another negative was that the shower was tiny and nothing to attach the shower head to, so me and my friend resorted to showering outside at the pool shower to cut the time in half rather than holding the shower head. The staff were lovely. The pool was gorgeous, clean and the setting was nice. Whilst we were there there were just large groups of young party goers, very lively and suitable for a party holiday- there was lots of music being played out of speakers from the rooms till around 12/1am. The only drawback is its location however you can get a good sleep away from the strip. Overall we had the best 10 days of our lives and I'd do anything to relive it

Stayed at the Derekas for 1 week at the end of June 2015. It was a very cheap last minute deal so wasn't expecting much. Stayed as a couple, me and my boyfriend.
On arrival, checked in at 'reception' which was the bar and showed to our room. The room was lovely and we were lucky to have a top floor room. Towels and beds changed just the once the week we were there, would have been nice to have maybe been done twice. Basic self catering equipment which didn't matter as ate out everyday! This was because it was so cheap to eat out and because when trying to order something from the pool bar we were told only chips and toasties, nothing else from the menu!
I was woken up a few nights about 5am with people coming back from the strip jumping in the pool and singing chants, but to be expected in Laganas.
Pool and area always kept really clean, didn't have to fight for a sunbed.
The only thing was this hotel is a good 40 minute walk to the beach and the main strip. We would walk everyday to the beach and get a taxi to the strip in the evening for £6.
Everyone is very friendly in Greece and we would recommend going to 'Cool Peppers' for food. This looked like such a nice place we saved it for our last night, but wish we'd eaten there more than once as it was gorgeous!
Overall the Derekas is very good value for a cheap holiday in Zante!

Horrible place, just back today. The owner if can charge you even for the air your breath. He want to charge for air con in the room, at the bar pay only by cash. always rude and £££ spinning in his brains. Not recommended to anyone, holiday was booked from TUI

WOW!!!! I have never in my life felt so ashamed and disappointed by the standard of a so called "2 star apartment'! if a hotel like that received 2 stars then i imagine that going to war and fearing for you life receives a 3 star rating!!! firstly there is NO reception so we had no idea on how to check in, finally after a while we realised that (believe it or not) the key had been left in the door of our so called room and we was to just wander in on our own terms! secondly the shower room (aka dirt box), had NO hot water throughout the week and not only did we have to shower in ice cold water we had to hold the shower head above ourselves because the shower head holder was rotted off the wall! if you like your room to be kept air conditioned and a nice 'cool' temperature then i suggest you stand in the pool as the air conditioning unit was hanging off the wall, so even if we had paid the horrendous charge for the privilege of using it I'm sure it wouldn't have been all that effective. thirdly if you enjoy any form of physical combat with the hotel staff then this is the place to be (especially if you have no fear of stab wounds)! yes the hotel barman pulled a knife on us over a spilt drink! finally if you like a nice long, and i mean long walk to anywhere then you may just get in to the beach after about a 1 hour expedition through half finished streets with no lights and dirt everywhere! in conclusion if you are the type of person who would pay to sleep in the Sahara dessert at night with sheets that don't get changed EVER, or a person who enjoys life threatening behaviours or just an absolute idiot then this is a hotel for you! anybody with any form of common sense please for your own sake avoid this abysmal example of a hotel!!

Me and my friend ( ages 19 and 20 ) stayed in derekus appartment and it was the worst expereince of our life ! we booked with co-op travel and olympic holiday ! we was there for 2 weeks however after one week we left the hotel and we were robbed !! we payed 30 euros for a saftey deposit box ... on Thursday the 21st july 2011 we opened our safe to take money out for the night and all our money had gone the only thing we was left with was 150 euros in travelers checks and our passports ! we were disgusted ! we went down to reception and they had no answer all they did was look at us ! it was an inside job . when we brough the safe we were told the only person who has a spare key was the manager ! the safe was not broken , so they went into our room opened our safe took our money and locked it back up ! me and my friend packed our cases and left the hotel asap ! we was scared and had too spend a whole day in the police station ! the secuirty man was a nutjob he was attackin people with poles and everynight after coming in we was scared he was gunna attack us ! ive never felt so unsafe on a holiday ! the hotel can not be trusted ... even a rep from our mates hotel " hera " said he refused to rep the hotel as its not a nice place to work with .. lots of other people in the hotel were losing trainers , phones , money and belongings . this hotel should be band for biritish travellers ... its a 30 minute walk to the main strip and beach you can get a taxi for 6 euros however the taxis went on strike and had to walk there and back 3-4 times a day !!! i wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone its diabolical and not safe ! worst holiday of my life ! you can get a better appartment for same money somewhere else ! they treat britsh people like animals and have no respect !

Also there isnt a cookin place more like 1 hob and no cooking equipment ! i could be here all day complaining and im far from caring about high expectations all i wanted was a cluubing holiday with my mates and this appartment ruined it !!!

Just back from a week at the Derekas. I did a late book with Olympic Holidays and as usual wasn't disappointed. For the money I paid what can I say. The room was lovely and big, balcony overlooking the pool and bar. A wonderful view of the sun rising in the morning. The weather was amazing for the end of september begining october which always helps. The rooms cleaned everyday and fresh towels and linen midway through stay. The staff were great and so friendly. Jimmy keeping everyone happy in the evening. Ok, it's well out of town but if you check you know that and the walk did me good. As it was end of the season it was mainly older people there which was fine, after all I'm 64. But people should not expect 5* treatment for 2* money as a few did I think. Only thing I would say is perhaps newer cooking rings for next year would be good. We even had an earth tremor early one morning which is different. Thanks again Derekas for a great time.

Me and my friends stayed at Derekas for a weeks holiday (May 31st-June 9th 2014) on a cheap getaway to celebrate the end of our exams.
The staff were great; friendly, attentive etc., the room cleaned daily, the pool and bar area was spotless everyday.
The hotels location is about a 20 minute walk from the town and beach, or a couple of euros taxi fare if you don't fancy the walk, and is perfect if you want to avoid the 18-30 crowd.
The bar offered a good variety of snacks and meals, cooked onsite and reasonably priced, which are available as long as the bar is open.
The bad reviews we read were mostly from people expecting much more, but for what we paid Derekas was great and we would gladly stay there again.

These apartments are set in beautiful surroundings with some lovely views both front and rear of the complex. They are kept immaculate by Dennis the owner and his staff, the grounds and pool are spotless! And everyone works so hard to keep them that way.
From the moment you arrive you're made to feel welcome and the staff try their best to accommodate your needs.
Derekas apartments are set the furthest away from the lively part of laganas which depending on the traveller is either a good thing or bad thing, for us with a very young child wanting a quiet break it was ideal.
Being a 30+ minute walk from the bars and clubs you are limited for choice of restaurants close to the apartments so you will need venture out as the rooms are extremely basic!! to which I will touch on later, but the nearest restaurant is 5 min walk called 'to rodi' which we highly recommend.
The poolside bar is open from 9am till late with a great selection of drinks serving basic bar food from a full English to pizza and burgers etc.(drinks approx 2-3 euros food approx 5 euros) so all in all this is a great value place to stay aimed for a range of people old and young.
The rooms are basic but kept clean and tidy, they have little more than a bed, bathroom and fridge.
They Really could do with the addition of cleaning products, kettle, iron, microwave etc. to be a true self catering apartment.
Although we really enjoyed our holiday we found a few negatives some of which were out of anyone's control.
Noise - road, cockerels, occasional late clubbers and generator.
Air conditioning - £60 a week
Mosquitos - no spray or plug mistake on our part!
Stairs - put us on first floor with baby and pram wasn't ideal
No cot - as requested and paid for although this was rectified 2 days into holiday.
And finally this is a big draw back! Most return flights home are early morning flights therefore you are to vacate your room by 12 the previous day! So you could potentially be waiting around for 15+ hours Which isn't ideal with a baby. Fortunately if there is space available you can extend your room for 20 euros which we did and would recommend!
In conclusion we had a lovely time, exceptionally good value for money and made to feel welcome in a clean basic family run apartment complex of approx 20 rooms.
