Hotel's Favourite
We stayed in Castello Antico Hotel at Mavrovouni for some days in July and we were fully satisfied from our stay. The hotel consists of about 30 apartments in independent houses of four apartments each, two of them on the first floor. We had one of them, with a spacious room with balcony, equipped also with a small fridge. We rested all these days, we slept very well and relaxed. The complex, in its very large property, has a restaurant of very good quality and of reasonable prices, an open bar and a medium size swimming pool. The beach is at just 50 meters from the estate, and there is an installation of umbrellas and sunbeds for the hotel guests. Because of the size of the estate we did not feel crowded anywhere even in pick hours. Breakfast is not in buffet, it is served either near the swimming pool or in the room and it was included in the price. You can choose from a four-page list as much as you want to eat and drink and for many times if you would like to. For me, it is one of the strong points of the hotel. Service is the best in everything. I would like, however, to mention in particular the excellent team of young boys and girls who are in charge of the restaurant and the bar. Politeness, efficiency and always a smile make guests feel very satisfied. We stayed mostly in the hotel, because we needed rest, relax and fill our batteries. But if, instead, somebody likes to get acquainted with the region, there are many places not far from the hotel. You can reach by car Areopolis, old small city on the top of the region of Mani, and the astonishing view of Limeni Bay About 30-40 km). The wild nature of peninsula of Mani (circuit of about 60 km from Areopolis). And to the other side (east) the medieval and byzantine city of Monemvassia (about 80 km). As a conclusion, we were very satisfied of our stay in Castello Antico and we recommend it for those who would like to visit the region of Mani.

After booking in the last minute we were welcomed at reception The sea view room, the amenities, the pool, bar and beach all beautiful, tasteful and convenient The a la carte breakfast menu was also excellent. My only objection is that my daughter forgot a small pouch with earrings of great sentimental value in her bedroom. When I E mailed the hotel a few days later they never bothered to answer..A truly good hotel would have at least responded...

Dear Positivetravel1 ! Initially, we apologize for our late response to your comment. We would like to thank you, for spending some of your time to share your experience. Can’t believe this place is only 3 stars. Gorgeous authentic maniot tower rooms, lovely beach setting, really good breakfast. We loved it! So much to do nearby: Monemvasia is spectacular, driving across to Limani, Mystras for Byzantine hill forts, lovely beaches.

A tasteful, well thought-out hotel, at an amazing location: mid-July the endless sandy beach right in front of it feels as private as ever. Well kept facilities, attention to the smallest detail, friendly staff and excellent value for money. All rooms have individual entrances. The hotel has been built with respect to local Mani architecture (stone). Its restaurant is probably the best one we found in the Gytheio area. Everything about the common and private spaces suggests a calm yet family-friendly site. Worth noting: the beach becomes quite steep after the first couple of meters (although you can still see the sandy bottom, so it doesn't feel scary at all), and is almost always windy after 11 am.

This hotel exceeded expectations and felt more luxurious than the price would suggest. I normally do not stay outside of town, but this property was only a 12 minute drive from Gytheio and worked well for us - we did not have any trouble parking in town for dinner in the evening and we did day trips to Mystras and around the Mani. The location also meant it was quiet at night, and there was room for a pool. The hotel is beautifully designed and the facilities exceed expectations, with a breakfast area/restaurant leading to the pool area and bar, leading to a grassy shaded lounge area, leading to a beach. Great use of space. The service was also excellent. Nikoleta, who checked us in/out, was extremely welcoming and professional. The bar/restaurant staff (one young woman and two young men, did not catch their names) were friendly and attentive. Breakfast itself was high quality - multiple coffee drinks, fresh juices, and a very large selection of hote and cold items (you choose from a menu instead of a buffet and your selections are brought to you.) The bar menu was reasonably priced. The room was well decorated and very clean. The bathroom was one of the better ones I have had in Greece and the water pressure and temperature were good. Beds were comfy and we appreciated the terrace with drying rack and the pool towels. Only issue was that the internet went in and out, but it was not a big deal. Included onsite parking. Great value, stay here!

My husband and I recently spent a night at Castello Antico while on a driving tour round the Peloponnese. It was a perfect location for visiting the Mani peninsula with its distinct architecture - reflected in the design of the hotel itself. Our room was large and comfortable with a great view from the balcony. We spent some hours relaxing on the lawns near the pool - a lovely area that leads to a great beach. We also had a delicious dinner by the pool. All staff were very helpful and friendly - a real taste of Greek hospitality! Would certainly recommend for a relaxing getaway in a beautiful corner of Greece.

We visited Castello Antico during an extended trip around Peloponnes. The hotel marked the start of our trip - and definitely one of the highlights! The architecture of the hotel resembles the Mani buildings. Everything is made very nicely and of high quality. The pool area is just awesome with thick green lawn in the area where the deck chairs are placed (at first we didn't believe that the lawn is natural... but it is!). There's always enough space - even when the hotel is fully booked. The food at the hotel is exceptional. Due to Covid there was no breakfast buffet - but the selection of freshly made and served dishes was absolutely perfect. There's also a huge selection of homemade marmelades! The restaurant is also recommended for dinner (and of course also for a lunch while chilling at the beach or at the pool). Mavrouvouni beach just in front of the hotel (with no road between) is also gorgeous. It's a very long strech of coarse sand and it's very clean! While there are more people directly in front of the camping grounds further east - there are almost no people at the rest of the beach. The water is mostly crystal clear (depending on wind/waves) and the beach area of the hotel is large enough to host all guests without feeling "packed". In a nuthsell: highly recommended as one of our favourite hotels for family vacation in Greece (and we have seen a lot of hotels in Greece over the last 20 years!)

It was our fourth time at Castello Antico. Everything was excellent! Beautiful hotel, tastefully decorated, excellent location. Good size room, very clean, comfortable and quiet. Our room was with balcony overlooking the sea. Delicious home made breakfast, especially pies, yoghurts and jams. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They do their best to enjoy our stay and make feel like at home. The restaurant food is also excellent and good value. Castello Antico is located on a long half sandy Mavrovouni beach with crystal clear water (great for long walks and swimming). It takes only few minutes walk to the sunbeds provided by Castello Antico. Hotel has a lovely pool also. The location of the hotel is very convenient for exploring Mani, Mystras, Monemvasia, Geraki, Elafonisos island etc. by car. We liked everything. Best wishes to all the staff of Castello Antico. Looking forward to see you again.

This is simply one of the best hotel experiences you could possibly have in Greece.....the staff are beyond spectacular and accommodating in every conceivable way; the food is one culinary delight and phenomenal experience after another; the hotel is impeccably maintained and cared for and the facility has quite literally all you could possibly want - and if they dont have it, they will get it.....there is good proximity to town and the innumerable sites and activities that the peninsula and surroundings have to offer.....Kostas, Nikos, Panagiotis (both of them), Carolina and ALL of the others who work here make this hotel a place that my family intends to visit year after year.....thank you all!
