I can report with great pleasure that somethings just do not change ! 12 years ago my wife [ a French travel expert] arranged a winter break for us and three other couples in the Basque region of SW France, it was great fun. I was keen to go back to one place in particular, the village of Espelette. A...

My wife and I took a road trip through France during October 2015. We took a Brittany Ferry to Bilbao and then drove into France, stopping initially in the Pyrenees and journeying on to the Dordogne and finally catching a ferry home from Ouistreham. The road trip was a combined gourmet experience and sightseeing trip. All the hotels we stayed...

This hotel is very typical and nicely decorated. Our room was very clean and spacious. Beds very good. Bathroom with a window and all things necessary. Wifi worked very well. The service was very friendly and caring. We even got a glass of wine late night in the lobby when everything was closed.

We spent the night, had dinner and breakfast. We were tourists not locals and treated minimally well. Our room was down the back hall past the restaurant restrooms; no elevator in our part of building just steep stairs and heavy fire doors; tired, worn, lots of little things not working like bedside lights, curtains did not cover window, shower doors...

We really enjoyed our stay here and wished it could have been longer. It was our last stop before getting the ferry in Bilbao. The hotel is in the centre of a busy, picturesque village. It is possible to park close by to unload and then the car can be moved to the hotel's private parking. Our room, on the top...

We have now stayed at this hotel on three occasions and always leave with enormous smiles on our faces. The rooms are spacious and kept scrupulously clean and it does not lack for comfort at a very affordable price. The Darraidou family, who have worked this hotel for 5 generations, know their business inside out and are always on hand...

A lovely old hotel right in the heart of the village. We were part of a small group and were allocated a large room on the third (top) floor where we looked out over the rolling hills of the Pays Basque. We thought it would be noisy as the village was very busy during the day but once the day...

We came in early April 2014, re-visiting the hotel after two years. It was every bit as good, the prices are very reasonable and the family who own and run it are charming. The room was kept impeccably clean by the femme de chambre and the food is excellent. Espelette itself is a joy, with far less of the concrete...

Driving throug the Pyrenees, I decided to stop and see if they had any room available. Glad surprise, they had. The room was very good, they had free wi-fi, and it was very quiet to sleep since this is the only hotel In town and the town is only one street, which makes the village even more charming. Peppers coming...

We did not stay at the hotel, we went to the restaurant for dinner on a week day in June when we visited the pretty town of Espelette. The restaurant is quite big, nicely decorated and seemed busy. The server was nice. Unfortunately, it must have been an off night for the kitchen, we did not enjoy the experience overall....
