We have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Marelen Hotel. My daughter had booked her wedding in the beautiful little chapel on the complex. The 2 bedroom apartment we stayed in exceeded our expectations and made our stay very comfortable. The Marelen is beautifully clean with well maintained gardens and pools. A big thank you and well done to the gardeners and the cleaners the chefs and catering staff at pool side who work so hard to keep everyone happy always with a friendly smile and welcome. Receptionists and management couldn't have been more helpful and courteous they too went over and beyond what we expected the wedding reception cake and meal was excellent and so professionally served. I cannot praise this hotel, and all who work there enough they have made for us memories that we will cherish forever especially the Greek Dancers at the wedding who made the evening so much fun!!! This review therefore is a small expression of a VERY BIG THANK YOU!! It was not the first time we have stayed here and it definitely wont be the last!!

When you want to see Zakynthos
I said to go to Zakynthos, if we still got vaccinated after Rhodes 2 years ago, it was a great choice. So plane, Zakynthos, bus and we reach the Marelen Hotel (4 stars) which is located in the resort Kalamaki, at a distance of 200m from the beach, where the turtles Caretta-Caretta chose to lay their eggs.
The beach has fine sand, there are significant areas where you are not allowed to stay because the Caretta-Caretta turtles have already laid eggs. You have areas on the beach where 2 sunbeds and an umbrella cost 8 euros all day (and half night :)). Almost (20m) is a tavern where you can eat something Greek or international, refreshments, beer, wine, etc. The food is good, the service the same and if the sun doesn't burn too hard you can have a successful day.
We had half board. Morning food was ok. In the evening not so much. All kinds of strange chops fried, cut and burned on the stove. They had no fish (sea bream, sardines, seafood, etc.). They had an old fish, frozen, which does not excite your taste buds. So poor.
In the room, cleaning is ok, good conditions, but due to mosquitoes, in the evening you can't sit on the balcony. If mosquitoes enter the room and fall asleep with them, you become a blood donor. We used anti-mosquito spiral mosquitoes and an isotronic device that could not stop the mosquitoes. As for those at the hotel, it seems that they do not spray the green spaces (watered every night at around 3.30), to not kill tourists :)

Hello miau, Firstly thank you for taking the time to write your review and sharing your holiday experience of beautiful Kalamaki. We are saddened that you were disappointed with the your evening meal, and I have passed on your comments to our head chef so he can note any areas for improvement. Thank you for appreciating our housekeeping team's hard work, I will pass this on to them. Unfortunately there are mosquitoes in Greece in this current heatwave. The Marelen hotel has committed to a sustainability programme which discourages the use of poisonous insecticides in our beautiful gardens. We suggest that the use of the plug-in liquid machines can be used in the rooms, this makes the mosquitoes drowsy and stops them biting! Thanks once again for scoring us 4 stars, and we hope you will visit the Marelen Hotel again in the future.

We stayed in Marelen Hotel for 7 nights. We arrived at night and the receptionist welcomed us really cheerful. She showed the direction of our room. The room was spacious with big balcony. The air conditioner worked really good and it is included (free of chrage).
The walls were really thin and we heard every noises from the other rooms and it was really unpleasant for us to sleep it well.
We arrived really late and missed the dinner but the hotel offered us a vocuher to get a luch during our stay. It was really kind from them.
The breakfast is really varied with buffet style (bacon, eggs, cheese, salami, lots of fruits, cakes and so on).
The dinner was also good with lots of dishes but some dishes were tasteless. We were missed the spices. Every day had tematical dinner nights (greak, asian, italian and so on).
The pools are really enjoyable because we used the Adults pools and the temperature of the water were really appropiate for us (not too cold, not too hot), around 30 Celcius degree. Jacuzzi was also good.

The only problem was the service during the breakfast and the dinner too. We can't put dishes on our plates just the staff and it was really unconfortable for us because sometimes give to much food and we couldn't eat it and we had to hurry to go out to access the other guests there. We had to wait in the row sometimes more than 15 mintues according to access to buffet area according to the COVID protocol but I didn't understand it because if I stand in the row with a lot of people these are also bad, so this is the same situation.
If they give us gloves and wear it when we take food and after throw the gloves to the trash it can be a good solution to avoid this staff service. If they give a time period for every guest when can go to the buffet dishes this can be a solution to avoid the long rows.

The beach was really cloes to the hotel. It was a 5 minitues walk. The water was really clean. 2 sunbeds with umbrella cost 8 EUR/day.
Unfortunately, we didn't see turtules there but they protect the eggs for the turtles.

All in all, this is a good hotel but we will visit it again just after the COVID regulations because these are really inconvinient for the hotel guests. ( I spoke with them and they were also upset about this service in the hotel).

Hello David, Thank you so much for sharing your comments of your recent stay with us. We really appreciate all your positive comments and I will pass them on to all our team. I have consulted with our chef regarding your opinion of the evening dishes you tried, he offers a variety of dishes for all tastes, some have more spice than others - for example on our Asian themed evening, but there are always some guests who prefer less spicy food, and most Greek dishes are not traditionally spicy. The Greek hotel protocols for Covid-19 are strictly followed within the hotel, and we took the decision to once again have the staff serve the food, for all our guests' safety. The use of gloves by guests is only effective if they don't touch their face/hair/body etc while they are wearing them. We have just passed the TUV Austria Hellas award for Covid Shield, for the second year running, and we feel it is worthwhile to continue our protocols for the safety of everyone. We also try to be environmentally aware by reducing the use of single-use plastics (gloves). Once again thanks for your feedback, it has been noted, and we look forward to seeing you again post-Covid.

Just had a week at the Marelen. 5 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from a good choice of Restaurants, supermarkets and shops. Hotel is clean staff friendly and adhered to Covid restrictionists. Temperature taken face masks used ( but some people chose not to use them) good Adult only pool and the gardens are well
Maintained. Room are ok, no storage, 6 coat hangers, Shower was a trickle and you have to pay for aircon. Safety deposit box was in a room by reception and you have to pay. WiFi was non existent the further away from the main hotel buildings you were. Hotel advertised as WiFi throughout. Breakfast was served to you, you couldn’t go up more than once, resulting in cold food. Definitely not a 4 Star Hotel, have paid less for better.

Hello Alison M Thank you for taking your time to write a review for us. It is a pity you did not report any of the issues you had to reception as we could have solved them on the spot for you. The AC is free of charge 24/7; more coat hangers could have been provided for upon request and a wi-fi booster could have been put outside your room if you had a problem with the signal. With the strict hotel protocols in Greece for covid-19, the buffet has to be served by our staff this year to avoid the risk of cross contamination. You would have been more than welcome to go as many times as you liked to the buffet. We hope you will return to us in the future if you come back to Zakynthos another time.

The rating refers to the travel period July 2021 (Corona) and room 206, traveling as a couple without children. Normal requirements for equipment and food, no luxury travelers.

Hotel in general
Nice park-like area, chic and modern furnishings.
Sufficient free parking spaces are available on the street in front of the hotel.
As it seems usual in Greece, the safe in the room costs extra.
The adult only pool is very nice and quiet, we always got free sunbeds immediately, unfortunately there are no cushions here, and the sunbeds are very hard and uncomfortable.
Location very close to the airport but the noise didn't bother us. Beach in 2-5 minutes, shops in about 10 minutes on foot.

Meal
Breakfast as a buffet very good selection
Dinner as a buffet, absolutely great large selection and everything was very tasty.
Half board does not include drinks, 1 liter of carbonated water and 2 glasses of white wine cost 9 euros.
Because of Corona self-service at the buffet was not possible and a mask was required, but this was disregarded by many guests and unfortunately tolerated by the staff.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was very loud and crowded as there were many families with children.

Room 206 Superior Room
Ground floor with terrace / balcony to the garden.
If possible, take a room on the first or second floor in order to have a better view and more Quiet.
The rooms at the adult only pool are very nice.
In our room, the sink was not in the bathroom, but in the hallway and without hooks for towels.
The hair dryer is extremely weak and probably useless for women with long hair.
Room very badly soundproofed both from the floor above and from the hotel hallway.
The beds are very comfortable and there were 2 pillows of different firmness.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review of your recent stay with us. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 protocols, we are unable to provide the cushions for the sun loungers at the adult pool this year. For the second year, we have passed our Covid Shield from TUV Austria Hellas, showing that we take our guests' safety seriously. Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our food, at our busiest time in August there are lots of families with children staying at the hotel (we pride ourselves and have won many awards for our facilities for families with children). There is also seating outside on the decking near the main pool. We thank you once again for your feedback, which has been passed on to the management, and love your photos of your travels around the island. Please let us know if you plan to return to the Marelen Hotel in the future.

Couldn't fault this hotel, the staff are so friendly, especially Nikos in the bar who makes the best cocktails. The cleanliness was second to none. Under the current covid climate we felt safe and secure with social distancing and sanitiser stations in place. Kalamaki beach is less than a 5 minute walk away with wide variety of restaurants and bars less than 10 a minute walk. The beach itself has beautiful and sandy with warm shallow waters. We will definitely return to this hotel.

Just back from an amazing 2 week stay. We held our wedding blessing in the hotel grounds outside the on site chapel. The staff could not have been more welcoming. The breakfast was nice with lots of choice and the restaurant staff were on the ball with the serving and collecting of plates and trays. The pool bar has a wide selection of drinks and snacks at reasonable prices. Rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels also. This was our 2nd stay at the Marelen and it will not be our last!!

This is the first time staying at The Marelen although we have visited Zante on numerous occasions. The hotel is situated 5 minute walk to the beach, which is lovely and clean, with a shallow entrance to the sea.

The pool area was kept clean with staff regularly coming round tidying up, on the days when all the beds were full they would remove any towels placed to reserve beds. The pool bar was well kept and the service was always with a smile. We ate at the pool bar on a couple of occasions and it was okay.

The pool was clean and well maintained there is also a kids pool area along with a small kids water park, although the water in the water park was very cold.

The rooms are well kept and serviced on a regular basis, the bed we had was very large and comfortable which was a nice bonus. A strange thing was the wash basis was outside of the shower/bathroom so to wash your hands or clean your teeth you had to do this in the bedroom! Our room had a lovely large balcony which wrapped around two elevations. There is a very small fridge in the room.

The air con was cool and could be run quietly overnight.

We were bed and breakfast so we ate in the restaurant each morning, this was well run with plenty of staff on.

There is a small shop on site where you could obtain bottled water and other items.

Would I come back, yes probably.

Have just returned from a fabulous two weeks stay at the Marelen. After staying here for many years, I’m just amazed each year with the upgrades in facilities and dedication and commitment to ensuring guests received an optimum service.
Where do I begin? The new look snack bar and eating area is amazing with a great ambiance and feel. It was great to see more food and drink options!
The new Eden Bar brings a classic feel to the hotel and will be such a benefit in the warmer months to be able to remain seated outside and enjoy great drinks and cocktails - obviously Nick is still there keeping the guests happy and watered!!
The breakfast Buffett had many different options from cooked food to salad and continental options with different bread, cereal, croissants and fruits and yoghurts! I have to give a special mention to the chef Elena who made the most superb poached eggs!!!
The room cleaning service with daily cleaning, fresh towels and linen remains superb and it was an added bonus to see the safes now in the rooms - again shows that hotel management team listens to the feedback from its guests.
The visibility of the hotel owners and managers maintains that family feel and the hardworking staff team offers reassurance that if there were ever any problems they would be acted on swiftly.
It was so good to also see guests returning following what has been a tough time for everyone and to catch up with new and old friends!

We have visited Kalamaki for a number of years stopping at various hotels, this year being a little special as the family has grown and we took our 11 month old granddaughter on her first holiday.

From the minute we booked the holiday the staff have been amazing, even though we booked a package holiday with Easyjet all emails queries were answered swiftly by the very helpful Theresa. from asking for a late check out to ensuring we have a cot and kettle to a low floor and even to ensure that the one double room has single beds they accommodated everything.

The check in was seamless - there was a note on our booking for our late check out, which we paid for there and once checked in we were in our rooms with 10 mins.

The hotel is literally a 5 minute walk to the beautiful Kalamaki beach but for those who like a dip in pool, there is something for everyone here from an adult pool to a kids pool and the staff couldn’t do enough for you!

We were b&b only but the quality and selection was spot on, and always being topped up. Staff were friendly and took the time to speak to you. Of note for those travelling with babies there are plenty of high chairs!

Although I’m a beach person my son and daughter-in-law spread their time between the beach and pool so often came up to see them and spend time with the baby who absolutely loved the pool. Lunch around the pool was reasonable and very good! Always plenty of loungers too

We visited this hotel a couple of years ago when friends stopped here and they’ve added the Eden Bar, fantastic place!! We use to have a couple of drinks before going out for food and always returned for a night cap or two…excellent drink, prices and service was spot on!

Thanks to everyone working at Marelen for a fantastic time, we couldn’t of asked for a better hotel… from the check in to checking out was seamless. The room was ready with the cot as requested, food and drinks spot on and great location to the beach and 10 min walk to the main road of bars and restaurants.

After probably stopping at 7 different hotels in Kalamaki this one has to be my favourite by far! Thank you Marelen 🇬🇷❤️ See you next year

Sorry for delay. Most of the rooms as you asked about are spread about the resort. It would be best contacting hotel direct as some will be either in quieter areas ie the adult only area pool or main pool depending also where you want the sun to be on your terrace or balcony. They will try and accommodate your request by email.

Hello, the suites are double the size of the twin/double rooms as they have one bedroom and a lounge. The views vary depending on which area they are in but they are mostly garden view. You are welcome to email us if you need any more information.
