We are have just returned from 7 nights at the SBH Monica Beach Hotel and just cannot understand the negative reviews that I have read. All I can say is that we had a lovely clean well appointed room with a pool view and seaview. The room was cleaned everyday and the bedding and towels were changed several times during our stay. The staff were absolutely lovely from the reception, the restaurant, the cleaners, the bar staff and even the gardeners all of them were friendly and polite. The animation team were hard working and talented they spent the daytime providing activities for people who wanted them such as archery, french boules, darts, rifle shooting, aqua aerobics, yoga stretching, beach volleyball and games in the pool, followed by some really good evening entertainment especially their version of the Greatest showman, the professional dancer Kevin from Barcelona is brilliant. The public areas were kept really clean and tidy. The main pool is heated which is great and there are loads of sunbeds in lots of different areas so never any need to reserve them. The beach is adjacent to the hotel with no roads to cross so great for children and families. The food was plentiful with loads of choice there was always meat and fish being cooked on griddles in front of you, the pizzas were delicious as were the different breads, salads, fresh fruits and desserts. We loved it.

We decided on a last minute break just after Christmas and actually went on New Year’s Day. We arrived after some trouble getting a transfer to the resort, due to it being New Year’s Day and not many transfers or taxis were available. But we managed to speak to a Tui agent who allowed us to pay to go on one of her transfers going to the resort, so we were very grateful to her. On arrival a nice lady called Patrizia welcomed us and filled us in with all the details we required. She later helped us with another matter, so a special mention to Patrizia as she was very helpful.
Our initial impression was a very good one, a lovely clean spacious hotel, not too crowded but producing a calm atmosphere. The room we had was modern and clean with a nice enclosed balcony. The room was cleaned every day and the cleaning staff always had a cheery hello.
The pool area was clean and spacious with an heated outdoor pool which allowed comfortable swimming and water fitness with the animation staff.
Sun loungers we’re always available and I must mention that all around the hotel were comfortable seats and sofas to sit in and watch the world go by.
The pool bar was open from 10.30 and snacks also were there to be had. The staff were great and served with a smile except one guy called Antonio, who obviously was having a bad week.
The Africa bar was also open daily and this was on the lower levels near the beach. This was a lovely spot to sit in the late afternoon and view the mile long beach and enjoy a drink. This bar was usually run by a Red haired barman who must be congratulated on his happy and warm manner and his nice tunes he had on the radio, well done to him as he really made this spot special.
The sandy beach is amazing and the sea is crystal clear, a lovely walk was taken most days.
Going onto the food, I must say I enjoyed it, always plenty available, freshly cooked in front of you. It was nice simple food with, pork, beef, Chicken and loads of salads and breads available. I will say that the deserts were mainly fruit, but this may be a good thing as you usually eat too much on the mains. Wine and beer available on tap.
Evening entertainment was OK, mainly put on by the animation staff and they did try very hard explaining everything in 5 languages. I would say it was something to watch in the evening, better than nothing. The bar was well run in the evening in the main entertainment area, with no queues. Special mention to Rayco and Mohamed behind the bar who were excellent.
We really enjoyed our week away and I would definitely return again, maybe next time with the grandchildren as there seemed to be an very good childrens club onsite.

Find it hard to find niggles but there are some unfortunately..... misses little things . Wine glasses on table instead of scurrying round trying to get a decent glass to get your wine in. Really doesn’t justify long trousers in the evening as restaurant is not of a standard. Rooms clean but tired and feel you should provide English TV channels along with the German and French and every other language except English... unless you want to here the news 24/7. Beach bar should be open until at least 8 , nowhere to sit out and enjoy the evening ambience felt very claustrophobic underground to watch shows and have a drink. Benches whilst waiting for pick up or just to sit by entrance would be nice.

That’s the negatives over as it’s a lovely hotel even if I feel it’s time to make it just available to the Germans as it’s already geared towards them ..... if you want to chill and walk along a beautiful beach then this is the place for you . Ps despite not responding to my email I’m grateful to you for meeting my request.

We’ve just returned from staying a week during half term at this fabulous hotel. Myself, my wife, our 14yr old daughter and 12yr old son had an amazing time. The place is huge and there are so many places to relax in the sun which means at no point did the hotel feel busy. The two main pools are great and you definitely don’t need to book sun loungers early in the morning, in fact, there are so many different places to sunbathe you are spoilt for choice, whether it’s by the main pool, the pool with slides (and bar) or the beautiful beach terrace (all part of the AI programme) you’ll never struggle for a place to relax. What’s also really clever is that there are many other sun loungers throughout the complex that are placed in lovely quiet sun traps. The food was great, we never struggled to find anything nice to eat and my daughter, who is vegetarian was also very happy with what was on offer. Self service wine/beer/soft drinks is nice which means you just help yourself when you are thirsty -no queuing at the bar !! We were very impressed, the hotel has a variety of guests, English, German, French predominantly. I’ve read previous reviews where people moaned about the number of Germans but they’re allowed to go on holiday too. Everyone was so nice, the room was cleaned daily and although it was a little basic it was fine as we didn’t spend long in there as the days were so nice. We’ve stayed in many all inclusive places all over the world (Riu, Iberostar etc) and the SBH resort is up there with the best we’ve stayed at. As a general rule we vow never to return to the same place twice but we will definitely be returning to this. We paid €30 for a 3pm late check out but they could only do 2pm but it was still €30 to pay is the only negative I can think of for the whole week. There were plenty of animation activities for our son and evening entertainment was ok although we didn’t see all of them as were playing our own games. All in all I can’t fault it, some reviews are pretty silly but I can’t recommend this enough.

My fiance bought me here as a birthday break, and my gosh, it was fab!! The staff are incredible. They really did make our holiday that little more special. The bar staff Mihai and Hamada are amazing. They really go out of their way to make a difference. They remembered our drink orders and always made conversation, those are the little touches that make you feel valued! The animation team is incredible. Luca is fabulous, left us laughing even when the show was over. They're so versatile, literally doing everything, comedy, dancing, day time entertainment! Seriously such a good crew! Julia is great too, I cant remember all their names but seriously they are such a huge credit to the hotel. Such a good team.

The food is great, I'm vegetarian and found something at every meal time. Always lots of choice. The drinks are okay, it's all inclusive so they arent always great. The mojito and Irish cream were our faves. My partner also liked the red wine and amstel.

The location for us was great, right on a beautiful beach, if you come out and walk right you can walk a good 2 miles taking in the beautiful views and see a few sea birds and cute chipmunks too! The oceans so clear we saw lots of fish too. Also the bus stop around a 10 min walk away can take you into morro jable, costs around 3 euros each way. Takes around 30 mins. The harbour down there is beautiful. We saw mantarays!!! The village itself is lush you could spend a whole day exploring. There isnt alot of night life in costa calma, but we like that. The sunrises on the beach are definitely worth waking up for too.

The rooms are great, lovely terrace areas too. We had room 86 and our shower kept leaking past the shower cubicle area. Wasnt a big issue for us but for elderly couples it could be a slip risk. There isnt many english tv channels but we didnt come on holiday to watch tv so was fine by us. Beds are comfy. House keeping are great, left us a real cute towel animal one day, which made us smile!

We cant wait to return! Huge thank you to all the staff <3

Dear holidaytrues, Thank you for your review of your stay at our SBH Monica Beach Resort. We are really sorry that you did not enjoy this stay here with us and we have to apologise for any inconvenience. Obviously we have not reached our usual standard. We take your comments very seriously and will immediately forward your comments to our technician. Moreover we have taken good note of your remarks related to the presence of cockroaches within our grounds; given the climatology of Fuerteventura and its geographical position, depending on the humidity and heat, the presence of insects in any hotel, business or private house is unavoidable, nevertheless we have in place a specific preventive pest control plan as well as regular treatments to avoid their presence in the hotel. We hope to welcome you again and that you will give us another chance to convince you of our hotel and services. Kind regards, The management

A lovely place to stay, with all you need on hand. I would not describe this as a hotel in the traditional sense, but a complex of little apartments, arranged in a little village format, and nestled into the hillside next to the most amazing sandy coastline.

Everywhere is so clean and tidy and well maintained, with hardworking cleaning staff who every morning are washing and wiping everything down for the guests to enjoy. Even the resident cats are well cared for (and neutered!).

Everyone staying here seems to be on an all inclusive package (the wristbands are a little annoying to wear!). There are three bars (poolside, one overlooking the beach, and in the entertainment area) which all had an ample range of drinks available all day (inclusive until 11pm).

There was loads of snacks and ice cream available at the poolside during the day. At main meal times, there is a great range of food, and even those with the fussiest of eaters would be able to find something to eat and enjoy. We also booked into the Asian restaurant one evening for a change (part of inclusive package).

We were here for 7 days, so didn’t leave the resort, as we just wanted to unwind and relax. There did though seem to be a range of excursions to other parts of the island, including the local zoo and waterpark, and indeed day trips to other islands if you wanted to get away from the resort.

For those with little ones, there was an amazing kids club, a separate pool with outdoor flumes, and for the older ones, yoga, aqua gym, cocktail workshops and other fun activities at no cost included by the enthusiastic entertainment team.

On a couple of occasions, we paid (£12.50 per day) for the premium sun beds overlooking the coast, partly for the view and comfort, also so we didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to ‘reserve’ a sun bed… they could do with a few more of these.

Our only wish that was missing would be free wifi across the site or more free hotspots. There is free wifi in the main lobby, but everywhere else it has to be paid for as an extra on a daily basis, and per device - so download some content before you arrive!

We would definitely recommend a stay at this resort, especially if you just need a week away (with or without the kids) to unwind and relax. Apart from the premium sun beds, we haven’t spent anything all week… it really is ‘all inclusive’!

We travelled on an inclusive package via EasyJet Holidays, including transfers which took approx. 1hr from the airport, but gave a lovely experience as we travelled south through the island to our hotel.

Hotel tried really hard to cope with covid restrictions but we didn't get value for money, because it had been closed for a while we had several cockroaches in our room.
We booked this hotel for the water slides but only one was open which was very rough concrete...lots of cuts on arms and legs, plus no inflatables or ball games in any of the pool.No sunbeds or parasols on the beach. Food choice no good if you're a vegetarian.

Dear Q186XBjayneh, Thank you very much for your feedback here on Tripadvisor. We are extremely sorry to read that our hotel SBH Monica Beach Resort did not meet up your expectations and we would like to let you know that each and every opinion is important for us to improve our facilities and service. Cleanliness and higiene are very important to us. Therefore our housekeeping cleans the entire complex as well as all rooms throughly on a daily basis. Every week our hotel is doing the specific controls that are required for try to maintain them away from our facilities but unfortuntately due to the climate we have on the Canary Island it is nearly imposible to keep all insects away. Regarding to why we do not allow floating objects in our pools as well as all other hotels in the whole of the Canary Islands have to stick to legislations put up on us by an official board. The abundance of legislation dealing with various safety aspects at national and regional level, coupled with the training of the staff and the regular safety inspections and certification of hotels, are adequately addressing risks and ensuring the protection of guests. The public beach which is located in front of our hotel is a public area and therefore belongs to the municipality which has rented it to an external company. Our guests have the possibility to rent sunloungers and parasols. We would like to mention that our chefs prepare a variety of foods on a daily basis. As we cater for a wide range of nationalities, we offer an international menu as well as we offer to our guests a wide range of choice between fresh fish and meats, daily soups and vegetables. We also offer vegetarian food or food without gluten or lactose intolerance or etc. and on request we are more then happy to organise special food for our guests. We look forward to welcoming you again soon at our hotel to make change your mind about us. Kind regards, The management

We booked this holiday last minute and wasn’t expecting much considering the price. The apartment was very spacious we had a bedroom, bathroom kitchen and living are and were only expecting a hotel room with bathroom. We enquired about upgrading to a sea view which he even offered to do free of charge but unfortunately one was only available the last day before we left.

Easy access to the beach with free drinks at beach bar if you are all inclusive. You can get sun beds higher up with glass balcony’s and fantastic views. We also paid about €20 for a bed with a sea view and got fruit and champagne which was well worth it for the day. Plenty of entertainment at night however there is not much space to try to get in early to find a seat. Good selection of drinks. Everything was clean.

We were a little concerned there would not be much to do as we heard the resort was very quiet and don’t really sunbathe but there was plenty if you are willing to get out and about. We had a day on the beach buggy’s/sand dunes, visited the local zoo which was fantastic and went on a catamaran boat trip which was also great. There are also a few bars within walking distance which are very nice with friendly staff. We didn’t really end up having time to use all of the hotel facilities. There was also a games room with pool tables etc. While we did go out, there is more enough to do in the resort for a week and you could quiet easily not spend a penny. Has amenities to get showered and changed once you check out.

Overall it is the best value for money holiday we have ever been on wish we would have stayed longer. Definitely plan on returning one day.

As a solo traveller I have just returned from the SBH Monica Beach Resort on September 17th 2022 following a two week stay. As this was my fifth stay at this hotel, over the years, it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Many improvements have been made since my previous visits, both to the amenities and running of the hotel.

I arrived very late (23:30) following a two-hour flight delay from Manchester. The young gentleman on reception couldn’t have been more helpful and informative. He told me before I occupied my room, some refreshments of plated meats and cheeses together with a variety of fruit and soft drinks were available in the dining area. Due to my late arrival this was a welcome bonus and much appreciated touch on behalf of the hotel.

My room was a sea view room, and it was spotlessly clean on arrival and cleaned to a high standard every day and towels changed frequently. The house staff were always very pleasant and couldn’t do enough for you. Every room now has individual air conditioning.

The food was excellent but there was a little too much pork for my liking. I would say that the food was better quality and more plentiful comparing it to my previous visits with a huge selection and varied menu to suit all tastes. All the restaurant personnel were very hard working as were all the staff throughout the hotel. A good animation team provided pool exercises and entertainment throughout the day also entertainment in the evenings.

There is still a problem of towels being left on sunbeds around the pools, some people reserving them from early morning for up to half a day or longer before occupying them, although attached to every sunbed is a notice saying this is not permitted. I take on board that this problem is not only common to Hotel Monica Beach but to most other hotels.

This all-inclusive hotel occupies an enviable position right next to a golden sandy beach and people with mobility issues may find access to the beach difficult. Ramps from the hotel to Bar Africa and the start of the beach are available for people who have difficulty managing steps and wheelchair/buggy users. Lift access is available to some of the higher floors of the hotel.

Would I go back to this hotel? Without a doubt!

Response from Sandra Feichtlbauer, Atención al cliente/recepción at SBH Monica Beach Resort
Responded 28 Sept 2022
Dear David G, It makes us really happy to read your comment after your recent stay on our SBH Monica Beach Resort. We are really pleased that you have chosen to spend your holidays in our resort over the years and delighted to read that you had a pleasant stay with us and that you were completely satisfied with our service and facilities in this fifth visit. We are glad that you appreciated the cold dinner on your late check-in. As you have mentioned, according to the hotel policy reserving sunbeds is not allowed. We do our best to ensure the following of this standard, especially during high occupancy when this happens more often and we apologize if exceptionally during your stay we weren’t able to have a total control on this matter. In case that one of our guests cannot find any sunbed available we recommend to contact our life guards who can help to find more sunbeds available. We thank you for your loyalty as a regular guest and for your nice recommendation. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again very soon. Best regards, The management
