Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely place to stay for my two night visit to Orkney, very welcoming, warm and comfortable with beautiful breakfast too, spacious room, very clean and excellent facilities for all. Good location minutes from Kirkwall but feels like the countryside. Highly recommended

We had a very enjoyable stay at Scapa House, Ida and Balfour were the most warm and friendly hosts. Our room was spacious, bright and fresh. Deliciously cooked breakfast with lots of other choices, like fresh fruit and cereals. We felt very relaxed in Ida and Balfour’s lovely home. Hoping to make a return visit. Thank-you for helping to make our first trip to Orkney such a memorable one.

This is one of these rare finds. A truly fantastic B&B. Lovely friendly hosts, superb food and really comfortable pleasant rooms. (One of my favourite distilleries -Scapa - next door). Don’t miss out on this superb accommodation

We've just stayed several night with Ida & Balfour & couldn't fault their hospitality. Very comfortable, immaculate rooms, plenty of tourist help on request, and a brilliant breakfast with everything you could want. Easy drive into Kirkwall & also to access the major sites to visit on Mainland. Thank you from Jan & Julie. Follow signs for Scapa Distillery which is 2 mins walk further down the lane. (I did wonder why there were no recent reviews, and I think it's because it's quite difficult to find on Tripadvisor's "Search" facility. Don't know why?)

We stayed at Scapa Guest House for 5 nights in early September for the Orkney Science Festival. From the moment we arrived in Orkney, Ida and Balfour went out of their way to make us feel at home. The room was immaculately clean and very warm and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and catered to our dietary needs (vegan and vegetarian). Ida and Balfour kindly gave us several lifts to and from town (it's about a 20 - 25 minute walk to Kirkwall) and they had lots of useful information about places to visit. I would definitely recommend and would stay there again.

A wonderful welcome, nothing is too much trouble! Scapa House is warm, comfortable and spotless. A beautiful freshly cooked breakfast every morning and clean towels daily. Lovely extras in the rooms; dish of Orkney fudge and Orkney soaps a nice touch. It’s possible to walk into Kirkwall although there is no pavement for part of the walk, but if you don’t want to drive, there are plenty of taxis available. A very special trip, thank you Ida and Balfour.

This was our first visit to Orkney, Ida and Balfour were able to help us with anything we wanted to know about the Islands. We were made to feel most welcome and everything you might want was on offer at breakfast. Our room was comfortable & clean towels were available daily. Their home is about 2 miles out of Kirkwall but taxis are available to town at a modest price.

FreshStartFoundation Team, stayed at this lovely B/B. Ida made us feel very welcome. The bedrooms with en suite, were very comfortable, with little extra touches, like the dish of Orkney Fudge and little sewing kit, for emergency repairs. Little Guest Soaps, made in Orkney. It is minutes from the centre of Orkney. The breakfasts, had lots of choices and the cooked one, used locally sourced ingredients. Many Thanks, Ida.

We stayed for three nights in this well kept B&B. Ida, the owner, made sure we were comfortable and well looked after. The B&B is a short way outside Kirkwall in a quiet rural setting and next door to the Scapa Distillery. Very convenient for a tour and tasting.

We stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Ida greeted us with cake and coffee on our arrival which was delicious and then showed us to our rooms - which had very comfy beds, ensuite shower and TV (and very clean). Breakfast was included and this kept us going till really late in the afternoon and there was plenty to choose from ! We can't wait to come back - thanks Ida & Balfour Jen
