Just home from a fantastic 1 week stay at Royal Son Bou Family Club! This was our first time in Menorca and we chose Royal Son Bou Family Club based upon the great reviews on Trip Advisor and we were delighted to find that they were all true. The hotel is just fantastic! Spotlessly clean and the staff are extremally attentive and friendly all day every day. We are 2 Adults and 3 kids (who are aged between 4 and 7 years of age) so we really got a close look at the facilities not only for adults but from a child's perspective too.

At check in on the first evening, we had just missed dinner service but room service had packaged several bags of food which included sandwiches, fruit, yogurts etc. from the dinner buffet and brought them to our room moments after we had arrived.

The kids evening entertainment was in progress when we arrived so as I brought the bags to the room, the rest of the family enjoyed a drink and watched the fantastic entertainment team dancing on stage. The room (2 bed apartment) was fantastic. Very spacious, spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. We had plenty of space to relax and the big balcony overlooking the far end of the pool was ideal. We were in the middle of the block with one apartment above us and below us. Although you did hear when your neighbors were moving around, this can't be helped and it was never overly noisy, just general noises like kids running and doors closing etc. The block of apartments we were in if anyone wanted to enjoy that same location was Block E. I would be very happy with this location if we returned in the future.

We were All Inclusive and were very happy with the quality and variety of food available. Our kids are picky eaters so for them it was mainly pasta/chips/pizza for lunches and dinner and pastries/choc pancakes/yogurts etc. for breakfast.

Kids evening entertainment on the outside stage was from 8:30pm to 9:30pm with the usual high energy singing and dancing which the kids all enjoyed. From 9:30pm to 10:30pm entertainment more aimed at the adults would be on with singers, magicians, gymnastic type performances etc. the norm. Before midnight, everything is closed up on site which suited us fine with young children but there are bars and restaurants just outside the hotel if anyone wanted to extend their evening past that time.

Kikoland - where the children from all age groups have a full day of entertainment mapped out, was brilliant. It's partly shaded so that the kids can enjoy coloring or playing games in the shaded area which helps during those really hot days. Parents can leave the children in the very safe hands of the entertainment team or stay and observe the kids at play, your choice.

The main swimming pool is great for the kids and goes from shallow to maybe 6ft deep in the center. Kids pool is also lots of fun for the younger kids with some slides and waterfall mushroom and plenty of sun loungers available at both throughout the day.

Pros:
25 mins or so from the airport.
Hotel is very clean.
Staff are so polite and the children's entertainers go that extra mile to ensure the children are having fun.
Rooms very spacious and cleaned to a very high standard.
Plenty of space in the grounds of the hotel to enjoy.
Short private walk from the hotel to the beautiful sandy beach.
Food is fresh and replaced quickly for all meals.

Cons:
The only con I have is we found the mattress a little too hard in our apartment. We all felt this way but in saying that, some people prefer to have a hard mattress and this may be a pro for others :-)

Tips:
#1
Download the Royal Son Bou Family Club app as soon as you arrive or even better, before you go. Its a fantastic source of information from the kids and adults daily time tables to the themed nights in the restaurants, it really is excellent! You also are notified about excursions and other activities from that app so I strongly suggest you download it.

#2
Join in - if the team are calling for people to join in the water aerobics or volley ball etc, join in and get out of your comfort zone. You are there to have fun and don't worry about looking foolish, we all do so its just a bit of fun.

#3
Bring some laundry capsules and do some quick hand washing/steeping in the bathtub. Doing this allows you to pack less and a quick wash once or twice a week of the 1 day worn items worked great for us. There is a large clothes horse on the balcony of the apartment we stayed in which allowed us to wash and dry several times through the holiday

#4
Pony Trekking - book your kids into this, its only a few mins but nice memories none the less. You reserve your place at Kikoland, just ask one of the team when is the pony trekking is on next and if you can put your name down, there are no charges associated with this.

Special shout out to Anna in Kikoland. The staff are all fantastic but my kids really bonded with Anna and she is excellent at her job entertaining the children.

We had yet another great time at this hotel ! The staff were friendly and totally organised and prepared for covid, we felt safe and catered for. The entertainment was scaled down but the hotel had 30/40% occupancy, the kids were a little disappointed at no bouncy castle and high fives from the excellent animators but knew this was for their own good.
Fabulous inflatable afternoon on the Friday , kids and adults took part and enjoyed.
Hotel is spotless, food was of a high standard, hot and tasty , we especially enjoyed the chocolate fountain and waffles. More security on site then our previous visits but much appreciated. Would love to keep coming every year 🤗

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment as a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children 3.5 & 15 months) The hotel is really lovely and is super geared up for children. The room had a cot, bed guards and a high chair which were items we needed. Rooms are slightly dated but very clean. We ended up paying for an upgrade to the better and higher up of the 2 bedroom apartments as we wanted a better view and more privacy. The rooms have a mini kitchenette which was handy.
Both restaurants are all buffet style, it would have been nice to have eaten Al a carte a couple of times (we had to go for food separately due to one of us having to sit with the children whilst the other picked the food) but the food was nice and something for everyone. We were half board and they let us change our evening dinner to lunch time whenever we wanted.
The beach is a 5-10 min walk away and really is beautiful with some great sunset beach bars.
The pools were great. The kids pool was perfect and has artificial grass surrounding it so it isn’t slippy or too hot for little feet.
The kids club/crèche was amazing! So many activities on everyday. You have the option to leave children there too which is brilliant (I left the eldest a couple of times but not the youngest) It was great if the weather was a bit off or you just wanted to break the day up with a bit of play for the kids. The staff were brilliant and remembered my girls names and made them feel so involved and welcome. They also offered ice lollies and drinks for the kids even though we were only on half board. Every evening before dinner they would have face painting/tattoos/balloons and a chance to meet some characters (peppa pig/Donald duck/the hotel mascots) The mini disco would start at 8 until 8.45 and was very entertaining for little ones.
There are some really good restaurants 5 mins walk away which are well worth visiting.
We really enjoyed our first holiday abroad as a family of 4 and would definitely return. The staff really do make this place special for creating memories.

Wearing a banana shirt that made my Amazon order history far more exciting than it was prior to going away, I went to get the first round of drinks after checking in with the wife, 2 kids and enthusiastic grandmother & auntie support team.

There I got my first interaction that told me I was in for a pleasant stay. I whipped out a drinks carrier (which throughout the week became a vital component to the holiday) and ordered 4 cocktails. They were great, and the staff were very friendly from the get go.

That themed the whole week. Everyone was amazing and very engaging with the kids (ages 4 & 2) and always made sure they were looked after with high chairs and drinks.

All inclusive is one of the better offerings I’ve encountered. “Cornetto” ice creams and fruit ice lolly’s always available to get fat on, with a drinks selection very generous in its variety. The main bar is right next to the main pool, which was a decent temperature and offered no end of fun for the kids the entire week we were there.

The kids pool was good for a day, and certainly was warm as advertised.

The beach is fantastic. I highly recommend getting a sun lounger. The bar on the beach is reasonably priced and provided a very generous helping of chips to eat for a lunch, with cold beer and ice lolly’s readily available at a reasonable price too. The hotel snack bar isn’t too far away if you did want to venture the 6 mins back (but 33deg heat…no thanks!)

Special shout-out to Carmen, the cleaner we had for the majority of our weeks stay. Very friendly, always chatting to the kids and made every evening feel much more homely knowing everything was cleaned and tidied.

We had a hooky sea view room. (A711)

We had a cot given to us for the 2 year old, which was fine. We moved the pull out from under the lounge sofa into the bedroom, and utilised bed dividers always given to us to sleep 4 of us in one room comfortably. Photo shows how we took advantage of the space given.

Baloney was a good size and had no problem with 4 adults staying up late playing cards, with the looser rushing to the bar to get the next round!

Food - great. It’s all what you’d expect for a family friendly place like this. The featured dishes prepared that day stood out, with every meal offering enough variety to make all inclusive worthwhile.

Special mention to Luca at the fresh show pasta station. Whilst his bolognaise was great, just go with his special of the day and be blown away with how good pasta can be. He had me eating so much I’ve come home fat and happy. 😂

Overall, a great family holiday. Without kids, I don’t think it would be the place to go, but for us and 2 little ones (with 2 additional adults drinking the island dry!) it was perfect.

We have just returned from a ten night all inclusive stay at the Royal Son Bou. We were a three generation group with a 2 year old. We couldn’t fault the hotel. The rooms were spacious, well equipped and cleaned daily; be aware that there are no lifts so request a low floor if you have mobility issues. Food was very good with a lot of variety and all drinks and snacks were included in the all inclusive deal. There was a very safe shallow area to the large pool and a separate warm, shallow children's pool with slides for the little ones. There were always enough sun beds. Kiko land was superb and catered for all ages and even included a pony ride. Our granddaughter loved the children’s entertainment and dancing and the Kiko character and his “friends”. The beach was also lovely and on the doorstep.
The very best thing about this hotel, however, is the staff…. There are too many that went above and beyond to name, restaurant staff, bar staff, entertainment, reception, cleaners, all worked so hard and were so friendly and a delight with the little ones….they made our first holiday abroad with our granddaughter truly memorable. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel!!!

This was our first time at the Royal Son Bou and we booked this hotel based on the reviews for the kids club and we were not disappointed!

Kids Club:
The staff are brilliant! They do activities throughout morning and afternoon sessions and they also do a kids disco every night which our girls loved.

You have the option of staying with the kids or leaving them in the care of the staff. We felt perfectly comfortable leaving our girls (age 8 and 6).

The kids club area has a large shaded area as well as a table tennis table, mini play barn, swings and slides plus it's own mini refreshments area where the kids can get drinks and ice pops!

Pools:
There is a kids pool with a pirate ship and slides plus a waterfall mushroom.

There are plenty of shaded sunbeds and it's right next to the restaurant where you can get drinks and snacks throughout the day.

The main pool also has a very shallow end which gets deeper towards the middle.

Again there are loads of sunbeds and there was no issue with them being "reserved" as the hotel actively discourages this.

Both pools were heated so no icy surprises and we saw the pools being tested every morning before they were opened.

The aqua gym is great fun and was very popular.

They also have a pool party and lots of kids activities via the kids club.

Food:
There is plenty of choice between the two restaurants and the service times mean you can easily cater for the younger kids.

There is a children's food area and our girls loved the spaghetti bolognaise and pizzas.

Our tip: check the menus for both restaurants as we tended to eat at the Basilica and missed out on a tapas night at the other restaurant.

Accommodation :
As others mentioned, it's a bit dated but the beds are comfortable, it had everything we needed and was in a good state of repair.

The fridge, hob and microwave are a good option although we only needed the fridge 😂.

We were in block D which is right by the kids club and Basillica restaurant and also had a sea view.

Hotel in general:
Lovely hotel, great staff, all inclusive drinks were plentiful and the staff go above and beyond. Dow in particular needs a special mention as he is so friendly and always ensures you have a beer (or sprite)! When you want one.

Dear family, We are very pleased that you had such a positive experience during your first holiday at the Royal Son Bou. We thank you for this very complete description of our services and facilities, which may help other families when booking their holidays at our hotel. I would just like to clarify, to avoid confusion, that the only heated pool with solar energy is the children's pool. The high temperatures we are having these days in Menorca, make swimming in the pool a pleasure!! A pleasure is also to hear that you have enjoyed your family holiday. A big thank you from Dew for your kind words and a special greeting to you from all the Family People. We look forward to welcoming you back. Ester Rodríguez-Guest Relations Manager

What an amazing place! We went as a group of 8 (2 young kids, their parents, aunty and uncle, and grandparents) for a week at the beginning of June. It is everything we could have asked for and more. There was so much for all ages and everything has been thought of.
The rooms are slightly dated decor wise, but have everything you need. The cleaners are always keen in the morning to get in to clean your room but will happily come back later in the day if you’re not ready for them. The rooms always smelt so nice when we came back after they had been cleaned.
The food is lovely and there’s lots of choice. The bigger restaurant has a little more variety but not by much. Snack bar open during the day at the smaller restaurant had a nice rotation of snacks each day. The drinks bars are open from 10am and have a good selection again. Nice addition to have some ice creams available on the all inclusive (understandably the branded ones are an extra charge).
The underpass to the beach is really useful and the beach is beautiful - only a short walk from the hotel. We went along the beach walk early one morning and it was a lovely stroll.
The entertainment in the evening for the kids was great, however the adults entertainment wasn’t always the best (we went for the kids though so didn’t mind at all).
Nice little games area with a pool table, table tennis, and air hockey.

Nothing was too much hassle and all the staff were lovely. The kids loved their time here and we would not hesitate in rebooking.

This place is amazing

On our last day here now and we have been amazed by how lovely this hotel is.

The staff are attentive, polite and nothing is too much trouble for them

The apartment is big, cleaned daily and air conditioned. Large bathroom with two sinks.

Buffet is varied every day with a special menu also.

All inclusive drinks are great- the beer is actually Estrella so by no means a cheap option.

Its currently very quiet which adds to the great experience as no waiting for loungers etc.

Only complaints would be that the loungers arent cleaned after each use as stated and some resident dont think they need to wear a face mask or form a queue at the buffet. Could do with staff enforcing this a little more.

Apart from that, worth every penny and a great week.

Highly recommend this hotel.Right by beach. The rooms were very clean and bright.Beds comfortable.Small hob sink andkettle. My grandchildren loved the kids club baby pool and entertainment particularly mini disco and parade onlast evening.Rooms were cleaned everyday.Masks were mandatory in restaurant but even outdoors in Kikkoland which I thought was too much. There are lots of steps too altho ramps and lifts were available there were several flights of stairs to some rooms. We had a ground floor room with enclosed balcony which kept the rain out but was darker than rooms above. We were also upgraded to Hookypool plus at no extra cost. There were 3 sittings for meals. We chose middle sitting at 7pm which was a bit of a rush then to get a seat for show in eve. However the hotel was not full due to UKs travel policies so there were always seats. We particularly liked the bubble man on last eve very funny and entertaining. You were able to hire an umbrella from hotelat 2€ a day or 10€ a week thus saving on hire prices.Chairs were also 2 €.Son Bou is quite a smallresort but there is a zoo with a splash park about 10 mins drive away which is accessible by taxi as there seemed to be a problem with the bus.Ciutadella is well worth a visit.
Staff were exceptionally helpful.
Activities were on all day including Zumba Yoga Step and Aqua aerobics. One of best family hotels Ive stayed in.

Sorry it’s taken me so long to write this but we’ve stayed at this hotel twice. Loved it the first time although the staff do seem to favour any nationality over British. Paco the bar manager was extremely rude to anyone that’s all inclusive - sorry Paco but when you’re paying 5k plus for 10 nights in Menorca for your bar and cocktails (mixed crappy fake fruit juice) you shouldn’t have to argue if you want a double! Honestly you’d think every drink you ordered was coming out of this guys pay check! That aside we returned the next year. Even more expensive!! Again Paco was in his usual form!! Final straw was when a bar member actually kicked at a bunch of kids playing, verbally abusive and then stormed off! Kid friendly? Depends on the kids!!!

Response from EsterRodriguez, Guest Relations Manager at Royal Son Bou Family Club
Responded 11 Feb 2020
Dear family, First of all, we would like to thank you for spending your holidays with us and for writting a review about your experience at Royal Son Bou Family Club. It is a shame you found our service at the bar poor. We would like you to know that our main priority is that our guests (no matter nationality) are always treated with respect, and therefore feel very sorry that you felt this was not your case. Children are the soul of the hotel and our staff always takes it into account in their daily work. If someone from the staff intervenes, it is because they may have detected a security problem but always without any intention of offending or being aggressive. If you have felt that it was so, please excuse us. We would be pleased to be able to welcome you and your family in the future again. Thank you very much for your trust. Best regards from Menorca, Ester Rodríguez-Guest Relations Department

Saluti Tumeu Janer
