We have just returned from our Sierra Nevada biking holiday with Pure Mountains and could not fault a single aspect of the trip. From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Jenny to being dropped off we both had the most incredible time and couldn't have asked for any more. The farmhouse accommodation we stayed in was perfectly situated to access the many biking trails and it includes every amenity you would ever need. It is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and spacious, and comes equipped with 3 characterful dogs!

We enjoyed a plentiful and tasty breakfast from Yohav and lovely evening meals from Jane, aswell as a packed lunch on the trails each day. Having the land rover support driven by the brilliant Gerry was excellent too, as it meant we didn't have to carry lots of kit when biking. Our guides, Tim and Jenny were outstanding, and were quickly able to organise the riding to suit the group's abilities. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we always felt comfortable with their advice on the trails. We really enjoyed Tim and Jenny's humour and relaxed manner. The trails themselves are varied in terms of terrain and technicality and they were all brilliant fun to ride. We had an amazing time each day and felt that every possible eventuality was considered. All we had to do was to enjoy the trails!

We definitely want to return to Pure Mountains to experience more of the incredible trails and hugs from the dogs!

Where to begin? This mtb trip was amazing in all ways !! The riding was challenging and fun, and no pressure to ride anything I didn’t feel comfortable with. Tim and Jenny were helpful, funny, great conversationalists, and above all - the most professional guides. We always felt like we were in the best care. When my husband was unable to participate due to an injury, Tim and Jenny made an effort to ensure his continued inclusion in our riding experience, despite him not riding with the group.
I feel the value for this trip is EXCELLENT, no hesitation to recommend Pure Mountains if you’re looking for an exciting, fun filled 4 day mountain bike trip!

Just back from a fantastic 4 days of mountain biking with Pure Mountains. Jenny and Tim are expert trail guides, riding coaches and wonderful hosts. Each day was spent on different hillsides and on different trails with perfectly setup quality mountain bikes that we chose to hire. The Alpujurras mountain landscapes are beautiful in all directions giving plenty to take your mind of the climbs and plenty to distract you on the downhill sections if you're not being careful!! We felt very well looked after, not least every day at lunchtime when we sat down in the woods to be spoiled with a wonderful picnic lunch, the very best of luxury mountain biking!!
Thanks Jenny & Tim, we certainly hope to ride with you again.

I went on this trip on my own but met a great bunch of people and felt really welcome. Jenny and Tim were amazing at finding exactly the kind of trails we all wanted to ride, and kept bringing us food at every opportunity!! Everything felt fun and so well organised. We stayed in hotel berchules as our group was quite small and that was also a lovely experience, with amazing food and warm welcome. Airport transfer also really easy and Tim fixed my brake mid ride when it was failing, kept me riding!

I'm sad to leave. We had the most wonderful time at Pure Mountains. We are not riders, but we wanted to visit and experience the Sierras and Tim and Jenny absolutely made that happen. They welcomed us and had alternate suggestions on how to spend the days and we really enjoyed all of them. They were very welcoming and thoughtful hosts, and they fed us incredibly well. Even though we spent our days with a ton of walking and hiking, I think we still gained weight! We met some great new friends and really enjoyed just being there for the weekend. We're already planning to return soon!
(And we LOVE THEIR DOGS! Rory, Cocoa, and Molly were an incredible bonus!)
Thank you Jenny and Tim for everything.

Note to the reader. I have just proof read my review and I realise it gets a bit gushing in places. I make no apology for this. I have no affiliation whatsoever to Pure Mountains. However I feel that praise of the highest level should be afforded when it is deserved and believe me it is deserved here.

To be honest I was a little apprehensive about this trip. I have been on many holidays with my friends who are equally nuts about mountain biking. Two amazing adventures in the French Alps and countless forays into Scotland, Wales and the Lake District from our homes in the Peak district of Derbyshire.
Spain had not been my first choice. I had a picture of hot dusty featureless and uncomfortable riding in my minds eye. How wrong could I possibly have been.
Pure Mountains is run by Tim and Jenny from their beautiful home and guest house built into the mountainside above the pretty village of Berchules. The area is part of the stunning Alpujarra region of Andalusia in the Sierra Nevada of southern Spain. The air conditioned transfer from the airport left me in no doubt that this was going to be something special. The winding mountain roads leading up to our destination offered stunning vistas on every turn. The hills were draped in tomato vines and groves of almond trees. I was becoming more enchanted with the place with every mile, sorry kilometre we climbed.
We met Jenny at a hotel in Berchules and transferred our bikes and bags into a LWB land rover and purpose-built trailer The reason for this became apparent immediately. The guesthouse was another twenty minutes up the mountain. The track is used by the local farmers and forestry vehicles and led deep into the mountains. It was really quite exciting.
When we arrived at the guesthouse the view was simply breathtaking. The sun was setting and at 6500 feet the air was exlileratingly pure and cool. Pure Mountains indeed. Deep reds and purples bathed the hills below us as the sun went down. It was quite magical.
As with all previous mtb holidays, we went to unload our bikes ready for riding the next day. To our surprise it had all been done for us whilst we were admiring the view. This was a theme of the whole holiday. It was a little difficult to adjust to at first as I am so used to dealing with my own bike, cleaning and lubing the chain. Adjusting gears, changing tyres etc. What Tim and Jenny have done is really think about the whole experience and I will come back to this after I have described the accommodation.
The House is built of local stone, which is a reddish streaked almost slate-like stone that has a lustre to it. It blends with the hillside beautifully. The layout is in traditional Spanish hacienda style built around an internal courtyard. In the centre of the courtyard is a fountain with grapevines growing around the perimeter and the whole area offers a tranquil refuge from the sun when it gets too hot. Each room has been thoughtfully laid out. Remember that this a mountain bike holiday primarily and you are going to get a little sweaty an a little dusty. The shower is large and the hot water is instant with almost power shower pressure. Exactly what you need after a tiring day in the saddle. It is fed from the solar array that powers the whole building. This place is seriously Eco-friendly. The beds have firm, Tempur style foam mattresses that are just SO comfortable. I am 6 foot 5 and I have so many problems with rubbishy hotel mattresses. These were perfect. Another example of Jenny and Tims thoughtfulness. The rooms are large with a lovely terracotta tiled floor. The is plenty of storage to put your clothes and large shelves to store your helmet boots and any body armour you may have (optional). I could get reasonably fast wifi in my room too which was great considering we were so high up a mountain and it was all powered off the solar array. The windows had lovely Spanish shutters that kept the hot sun out, afforded privacy and also an uncannily dark room when you turned the lights out (well we were high in the mountains) I don't think I have ever slept so well.
Across the courtyard was the kitchen and large dining and living room. This led on a terrace that overlooked the valleys below. We had breakfast here and it was just the loveliest way to start the day.
Ok back to Jenny and Tim. As soon as you meet this couple you are instantly aware that they are true professionals. I have not met more welcoming and genial hosts. They are genuinely interested in you and your experiences. As well as being very friendly they had a duty to find out about you. From 'the get go' these guys needed to suss out your ability as a rider. So over breakfast it began (I will come back to food) They did this in an intelligent and easy going way so as not to patronise or embarrass anyone. It must be very difficult with hundreds of miles of terrain, varying from lovely benign trails through forests to full on hard core descents down steep mountainside, it was important to gauge ability and ride the appropriate trails. I think they were looking for egos (my opinion of course) but In mountainbiking, egos can be dangerous. My tip here is, if you have an ego, leave it at home. Tim and Jenny are very experienced mountain bikers and all they are interested in is your holiday being safe and enjoyable. All an ego will do in this terrain is get someone injured. Our group kind of know our limitations (over 40 and too many pies). We like a challenge but we know when to back off.
I would recommend at least having body armour available. The rocks can be a little intimidating at first. You will be instructed well in advance as to where it may be appropriate to wear it. However with the masterful guidance of Tim you will soon feel at home on the super grippy tracks.
So to the riding. The first day consisted of some climbing followed by gentle descents. Tim went in front and stopped to watch as we followed. Again this was all in order to see what we were capable of. He gave us lots of advice on riding style and tips on how to set the bike up for the terrain. He checked tyre pressures, suspension set ups, advised on how approach and execute switchback turns in the varying terrains. He went through every riders skills, pointing out strong points and suggesting alternative approaches where he felt it appropriate. It was all very professional and gave us all heaps of confidence.
After three hours of riding we came to a lovely clearing in the woods. Jenny was there with table and chairs all set with a fantastic buffet lunch spread out ready for us. Wow this was just first class. Grungy mountainbikers are used to greasy burgers in some godforsaken places but this was well, just wow! We sat and ate like kings. Fresh French bread, meats, cheeses, olives, salad, Spanish omelette, buscuits, chocolate. Tea, coffee, lemonade. It was just yummy and very relaxing. As I have said before, these two have really thought about your holiday and how to make it a good one.

Once Tim was happy with the groups ability he took us on some proper trails. Now this is the mountains so be prepared for some climbs. This can be done at your pace. There is no rush. In fact the land rover is always in radio contact if you wish to bail out (no disgrace) but the effort is well worth it. The views from some of the summits are amazing. The single track in this region is without question the best I have ever ridden. Most of the mountains are open access and we followed ancient drovers routes that criss cross the slopes. The air is cool but the sun is very strong so remember to pack plenty of sun tan cream. Also bring some long sleeve tops too as it can get quite chilly on the tops. We spent most of the time in short sleeve as the temperature was just right. What amazed me was that there was just no one around bar the occasional farmer tending to his tomatoes. We had the hills to ourselves. I saw mountain foxes, hares, buzzards and eagles. Every so often as I brushed against plants I got a waft of wild rosemary. There were fig trees, pomegranates and persimmon trees. There is something quite fantastic about sitting eating a wild fig after 'knocking off' a big climb.
At around 4pm we arrived back at the house for tea and cake on the terrace. Just what the doctor ordered after a long days riding. Bikes were washed, fettled and lubed by Tim. We didn't have to lift a finger.
Dinner was served at 7.30pm and was cooked by a local lady from the village. Jilly who is originally from England is just the best cook in the world (apart from my wife of course). The food was delicious and plentiful. It was a set menu but had been well planned for nutritional value as well as being totally scrummy. The pork in sherry with chorizo was my favourite and was devoured heartily by all. Oh and did I mention that beer and wine is all part of the package and the fridge was always full.
Jenny and Tim try to afford you some privacy as a group and have their own quarters. I think they try to suss out whether you want their company and mingle accordly. Again just so well thought out.
Guiding is split on alternate days between Tim and Jenny, so the following day Jenny led us whilst Tim was on Land Rover duty with the provisions. This was the theme for the week. It made sense as it must get very tiring over a period of time. Jenny was just as amazing a rider as Tim. Skillfull, calm and confident with a great knowledge of the trails. It all made for a wonderful weeks riding.

Oh and I forgot to mention the dogs! Jimmy and Lucy the munsterlanders. They just are the friendliest dogs I've ever come across. They came with us on all rides and were great fun. Don't worry if you are not into dogs. Tim and Jenny will suss that out too and probably not bring them.
Over the week we rode some epic trails that will be etched in my memory forever. At no point did we feel unsafe. In fact on the last day we got caught in a massive rainstorm (very unusual apparently) but Tim guided us safely down to the warmth and comfort of the guesthouse without fuss and we had huge grins on our faces.
It was very hard to leave. From the apprehension of arriving to the sheer joy of riding in this amazing place. I cannot recommend Pure Mountains highly enough. It was quite superb. . Oh and yes I got the tee shirt to prove it.
I will be back.

Visited mid May as a solo traveller. Location is superb, rode from the farmhouse each day. Jenny and Tim were excellent hosts and quickly gauged the group to ensure that we rode within our limits and rode the best possible trails for us all to enjoy. Would love to go back and explore further. I would not hesitate to recommend Pure Mountains to any keen mountain bikers, even travelling alone was not a problem as you ride as a group and soon get to know everyone. Many thanks Jenny and Tim for a memorable weekend riding great trails in the sun

I honestly cannot think of any way to improve the Pure Mountains set-up. We had an incredible time with Jenny and Tim who could not do enough to make our stay soooo memorable.
From the farmhouse, the rooms and the food to the fantastic knowledge of local trails and being able to pick those that seemed absolutely perfect for what we wanted, a mix of flowy single tracks and great descents with very helpful uplifts at just the right times.

5* home made cake every day to boot.

Awesome.
