We have just returned from our Sierra Nevada biking holiday with Pure Mountains and could not fault a single aspect of the trip. From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Jenny to being dropped off we both had the most incredible time and couldn't have asked for any more. The farmhouse accommodation we stayed in was perfectly situated to access the many biking trails and it includes every amenity you would ever need. It is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and spacious, and comes equipped with 3 characterful dogs! We enjoyed a plentiful and tasty breakfast from Yohav and lovely evening meals from Jane, aswell as a packed lunch on the trails each day. Having the land rover support driven by the brilliant Gerry was excellent too, as it meant we didn't have to carry lots of kit when biking. Our guides, Tim and Jenny were outstanding, and were quickly able to organise the riding to suit the group's abilities. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we always felt comfortable with their advice on the trails. We really enjoyed Tim and Jenny's humour and relaxed manner. The trails themselves are varied in terms of terrain and technicality and they were all brilliant fun to ride. We had an amazing time each day and felt that every possible eventuality was considered. All we had to do was to enjoy the trails! We definitely want to return to Pure Mountains to experience more of the incredible trails and hugs from the dogs!…
We were greeted by some of the friendliest animals (and humans) that you'll come across in the biking world. Hospitality is top notch, food is excellent quality (three meals a day), plentiful, and adjusted to cater for all needs (including Vegan). Accommodation is modern, clean and comfortable. Mountain environment is amazing, views and vistas to inspire and encourage. Tim and Jenny really go the extra mile (wash your bike for you? Yup. Mend a broken part? no problem. Deal with an under confident rider? all in a day's work). Oh, and the riding? Just amazing.
Adrenaline fuelled riding punctuated by scented pine forests, steep-sided gorges, multi coloured, flower filled-meadows, quickly eroding knife edge ridges, and heather deserts: this is a place I’m unlikely ever to forget, and will almost certainly return. Next time with friends who must share this experience. The Cortijo set high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains has stunning views over the Alpujarra and down to the sea around 30km away. Comfortable rooms with big beds and hot showers. Breakfast is fresh and plentiful followed at 10am, by a climb up into the hills, normally on double track roads, testing the fitness and giving a great sense of achievement. After the up, the down: long and sometimes technical descents down to the valley floor were, for me what made this a very, very special experience . Guided by “Jen Jen Jen & Tim Tim Tim” along tracks that they assessed would challenge without pushing us beyond our limits. Rescue in some of the remoter places would be tricky! Before each section Tim would offer an explanation of what to was to come and ‘get out’ for those that might find it too hard. Whether it be a long flowing single track with sniper rocks to avoid, or a steep sided rocky section that could be walked down if preferred. I felt challenged but safe....with around 20 years experience of these trails Tim and Jenny know every nook and cranny. My six fellow guests were friendly and mostly experienced riders who shared helpful riding tips and competed on the climbs. Evening meals were really tasty, cooked either by Jane in the farmhouse, or at the hospitable rural hotel in Berchules. Jerry and Richard drove us home safely, up to the farmhouse and the warm welcome of the three lovely dogs and the tubby tabby cat, at the end of each day. I cannot recommend this place and this experience enough....wonderful food, experienced guides, breath-taking scenery and inspiring riding.…
Tim and Jenny got it sorted: welcoming house, great food, beautiful location and an intimate knowledge of the best trails in the areas. The riding from the house is simply superb, ranging from flowy trails to rocky technical descents. Tim and Jenny are brilliant guide pitching the riding to the right level of technical abilities of the group. I can't recommend the place enough
I honestly cannot think of any way to improve the Pure Mountains set-up. We had an incredible time with Jenny and Tim who could not do enough to make our stay soooo memorable. From the farmhouse, the rooms and the food to the fantastic knowledge of local trails and being able to pick those that seemed absolutely perfect for what we wanted, a mix of flowy single tracks and great descents with very helpful uplifts at just the right times. 5* home made cake every day to boot. Awesome.
If you love mountain biking, this is THE place for you. The location is perfect - nice and tucked away in the middle of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Tim & Jenny are wonderful hosts who honestly could not do enough for us, making sure we were happy at every point of the stay. The accommodation is excellent with great food and drink (and plenty of it!) and great rooms (comfortable beds and hot showers). The highlight though, as you would expect, has to be the riding. Some simply amazing trails around the mountains. It's not for the beginner or the faint-hearted, but you get out what you put in. I'd estimate 20% climbing and 80% descending. The climbs are perfectly manageable, and are well worth it once you hit the downhill stuff. Anything from fast & flowing bermy trails, rock gardens, small jumps, drop-offs - it's got the lot (and most of the obstacles are rollable). Tim was excellent at gauging what's suitable for each rider and does this on the first morning (clearly has an eye for people's abilities). Thereafter, he'll take you where he knows you will be stretched but comfortable. All this punctuated by enough breaks to recover with coffee/cake mid-morning and a hearty lunch. All topped off by a cold beer at the end of the day - perfect. I can honestly say I have never had so much fun on a bike, ever. Tim & Jenny are such enthusiasts, and it shows in the way they have crafted the perfect mountain biking holiday. Oh, and the dogs are lovely! Can't recommend this highly enough.…
Wonderfully well organized tour but you had better be intermediate to advanced mountain bikers. This is not for beginners or the not in pretty good physical shape rider. Wild mountain single track, dirt road hills and rocks make for challenging and difficult riding. Bring your knee and elbow pads! That being said, the accommodations for slow and tired who only want to do a half day or sit a day out are easily made without question or harrassment. The bikes were Canyon brand and always in working order. Tim made sure the bikes were clean and perfect. The guest house was beautiful as were the beds and the views. Now, on to food. Jane, the chef, cooked amazingly delicious meals that everyone ate with gusto. Her husband Jerry was an entertaining driver and very sweet. Jenny, who organized us from the States, and communicated with us the whole time in preparation for our trip, also rode with us and made us feel confidant. Overall a wonderful experience we wont forget.…
What a wonderful lifelong experience we had. Tim and Jenny both have been outstanding on may fronts: designing a perfect exhilarating routes for our two days of hill walking, followed by 4 days of mountain biking. Their hospitality have been spot on from the moment they received us to the point they dropped us off. A truly 5* accommodation, the breakfast, lunch and delicious evening meal, and selection of beverage non-stop. We were guided on each day's activities on a new trails - perfect. A truly wonderful experience! A Pure Adventure! "Muchas gracias por su brillante hospitalidad"
Pure Mountains is a wonderful mecca for mountain bikers set high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The views are stunning from the morning sunrise over the mountains in the distance out to sea to the warm afternoon glow when you return from a days riding. We were a group of eight, well catered for with wonderful road side picnics and hearty evening meals. We were guided by both Jenny and Tim which helped to cater for the range of abilities in our group. The rooms are tastefully decorated with a real home from home feel. We'll be back for sure.
Looking back at 2017, the highlight of my year was four awesome days of mountain biking with Tim and Jenny at Pure Mountains. I was in a small group with two other riders - both were superb human beings and it was a pleasure to meet and spend four days in the sunshine with such fine human beings. MASSIVE credit to Pure Mountains because we rode some perfectly ACE trails, stopped now and again for tea breaks, lunches out on the trail and returned to a ready made cake waiting for me to hit it! Tim was fine about me extending my day to include the ride back to base and that was a good training opportunity. The meals were first class from the superb breakfast all the way thru to evening meals and meals down at the hotel in Berchules (many thanks to Wendy down there). A SUPER few days - genuine and honest review by Bob Johnson…
