My wife and I travel quite often to different places around the world, and we were so excited to visit Antoremba purely because of its isolated location. We booked through Barefoot Breaks and between them and Antoremba, everything was perfect. The food, the staff, the little attention to detail on special occasions, everything was superb. Thank you to Guillaume, Christine, Philippe and Hoby and the amazing team at Antoremba for making our week away (and the start of 2020) a trip to remember!
Best holiday location I have ever been to. Secluded beach with only a few bungalows. Far from crowds and other travellers, and most definitely off the beaten track. Quiet, calm and tranquil. Rooms are spacious, very clean and all have a stunning view of the ocean - directly on the beach!!! The staff are amazing and went out of their way to accommodate a solo traveller. Food was delicious and portion sizes were generous. The chef made special arrangements to cater for me being a vegetarian. Excursions are very reasonably priced. I honestly couldn't ask for more. I will most definitely be back. Loved every minute of my stay, thank you Antoremba Lodge!
Dear Antoremba Logde staff Thank you for a very relaxing and enjoyable 7 nights! I was able to relax and unwind like never before. This was my first holiday in Madagascar. I was not sure what to expect. We arrived at Nosy Be airport and was greeted by our friendly driver, who took us to the port at Helleville. We then got on a boat, and although the sea was a bit choppy, it was such a wonderful scene, seeing the lodge appear from the jungle on the beach. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating from the second we arrived. A very special thank you to Ube, who looked after us like we were the most important people in the world. The food was a highlight. The chef creates dishes which are french in origin, but with a lot of local influence. Yes, there was a lot of seafood, but we also had chicken and zebu (their beef) which was all very tasty. The cocktails are potent, but very tasty. We stayed in room 1 - an octagonal bungalow which is right on the edge of the property. There are only a few rooms, which guarantees peace and quite, which is exactly what I needed. The reef is probably one of the best features of the hotel. We were there on spring tide. Which meant that the sea subsided very far and it was a mere 100m walk through very shallow water to get to the reef. The snorkeling is world class. It was a wonderful holiday, and I would recommend it to anyone.…
We spent a month in the Nosy Bay Area in July and were stunned by the authentic beauty of this area. A truly pristine Island experience enjoyed in four different lodges on four different islands Our last stop was the mainland at Antoremba IT WAS BY FAR OUR LEAST FABOURITE EXPERIENCE IN MADAGASCAR The rooms were really lovely and right on the beach .... and the central Area was also attractive BUT by far it was our least favorite Malagassy experience Partly because like previous reviewer we felt a sense of lack of abundance. .....and yes it was the only place we stayed at that did not offer at least a bottle of free water a day Seemingly small but it does give one a comparative sense of the service values And yes we did have to pay for extras like the big local prawns which we had enjoyed free at our previous lodge as part of the meal plan But for us the biggest negative was having to contend with the potbellied owner sitting at meals with his shirt completely unbuttoned and open We simply found that distasteful and lacking of respect even on an Island One positive was a great excursion to a vocal snd vanilla estate and ylang ylang distillery…
I will start with the good to be fair. The rooms are clean, with adequate mosquito nets and fans. All are directly on the beach with nice sunset views. The food is good but heavy on fish and seafood. Breakfast is basic with muesli, bread and yoghurt. Eggs came at an extra cost even when paying full board. The hostess was very nice and tried her best (she offered a beach bucket, spade and sieve for the kids to play with although I checked we were not going to be charged for it.) The bad is a similar experience to previous bad reviews of the place, so I have not had an isolated experience and our neighbours, who we befriended and departed with, had a similar experience. Essentially the feel of the place is that financial profit is the main aim and not satisfied, happy customers. Drinks are expensive relative to other places we stayed at on our 3 week trip in Madagascar including a yacht charter. Excursion prices where higher too. I had an argument with the manager and then the owner about the provision of safe drinking water for my family and I. On arrival we received 2x1,5L bottles of mineral water but were told we would have to pay for further bottles at €2.20 per bottle. (Again about 50% more than elsewhere) I cannot understand how full-board (ie €354 per night for my wife, 2 kids and I) did not include safe drinking water and we would have to pay for mineral water. One cannot drink the local tap water. At the time of the argument, I knew I had very little cash having last been near a cash machine 7 days previously and they don’t have a credit card facility. Thankfully I had some local currency left and managed pay for water for the next 3 days. Had the hotelier been wiser he may have compromised with a fresh bottle a day for us and he would have a happier client. His argument that wherever he has traveled you pay for bottled water, I don’t think is valid in a scenario where there is no safe drinking water and one is paying a hefty full board price. Further negative experiences were that the beach is small and somewhat restrictive as there is nowhere to walk unless you pay for a guided tour. The water was brown and murky, like river water, for the 3 days we were there, so snorkeling was not an option. Maybe it’s not always like that. I was glad to leave but cannot only give one star due to the good points mentioned first.…
