Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here 4 nights while visiting the area. Thoroughly enjoyed the Lutwidge experience: Elena and Michael very welcoming and their colleague in the kitchen a particular star, sending out excellent breakfasts and a delicious evening meal on the night we chose to eat in. Very pleasing room and great location handy for coast as well as Eskdale. Thanks all.

Stayed at Lutwidge Arms for 1 night although originally planned 2 nights. Nice hotel however although we booked a superior room with King size bed, as per the website, we ended up with just a standard double bed. This was room 3 facing out to the main road and traffic noise started constantly from before 5 AM onwards. Not ideal if you want to get some sleep. Double glazing did not make much difference to the road noise. The host was friendly enough but let us know that there would not be enough hot water for a bath due to rising energy costs!! Also no info in the room about general hotel info, fire safety etc.

I was staying in the area after a day at the Ravensglass railway and a trip to Dalegarth, found this pub which was close to my b n b,I ordered a pint and the landlord said pay me later you may have another, I said I’m sitting outside but he said it was fine, not many places will trust you on that one, I did pop in to get another and paid up, pleasant pub and decent beer prices too! 👍

Great walking weekend staying at this family run hotel. Mick and Elena really made us feel welcome and looked after us. I can highly recommend the Latvian Chicken dish on the menu! We will be back I’m sure as the mountains near by are fabulous and the welcome is very warm.

If I could offer a zero star for this place, I would happily do so, thinking that I was over praising it. Booked dinner( for my wedding anniversary) weeks ago, advising that my daughter has a sesame allergy, I reconfirmed by email yesterday. We arrived and were told to get drinks before we sat down ( which we did). We told the waitress about the allergy and she said she would check with the kitchen. So, for a vegetarian, options from a limited menu went down to one ( as the breaded brie might contain sesame, even though it did not say it did no the packet) for starter and 2 main curse. we all ordered fish - my daughter asked for vegetables not chips-apparently, this request was just too much for the waitress who said the vegetables would not be an option as they are cooked with mixed spice ( which does not contain sesame). Apparently, salad with addressing is out of the question too. Indeed, my daughter apparently frightened the waitress We left ( refusing to may for the drinks we had ordered to go with the meal) The levels of ignorance and lack of professionalism shown by the staff were staggering. This is 2021 FFS-. my daughter was humiliated by the abject laziness and lack of empathy by the staff. A sheer and utter farce. I was almost tempted to try to find the hidden camera and await a TV comedian popping out - perhaps Basil Fawlty, Avoid this place like the plague - it is a disgrace. There are far better places to get a meal in the area - The Bower House were great, The Spa in the petrol station would be better

The food was very nice and the people were very friendly but service was a bit slow. Portion size is absolutely humongous I ordered a burger and the meat was about 4 cm thick and two onion rings were stuffed inside. Didn’t taste bad but it was massive. Would recommend if you are very hungry

We stayed at the lutwidge arms after cancelling our booking for a travel lodge in York when we saw the weather was going to be bad We were so lucky with the weather,we had 3 glorious days in Cumbria, made better by staying at the lutwidge arms hotel Mike and elena were very friendly and accommodating-our room-room 3 was lovely-we had a meal at the hotel the first evening which was lovely and the breakfast was excellent Their outside space where the decking is is really nice,as is the conservatory where our breakfast and evening meal was. Would recommend it definitely If I could comment on one thing that might brighten up the car park and make it a bit more welcoming would be to paint the car park wall and re plant the window troughs but apart from that it’s a great place as a central location to lots of great places and beautiful views

Being shown to our table by a lady not wearing a face mask we were given 1 menu, & 20 minutes later we ordered. Food arrived 30 mins later despite there only 2 other people in the restaurant. My partner said her rump steak was lovely although she asked for dianne sauce & it wasn't. My chilli was very dry & the rice was overcooked & a mush. I complained & was told (that's how we serve it).

Would defiantly recommend this Hotel for a meal, we were staying in Seascale few miles away, and was let down by our hotel for not doing meals on a Sunday Night, and with not finding much else open on a Monday night, came across the Lutwidge Arms Hotel on way back to hotel. On my wife checking with the Young Female on entering the hotel if it was possible to have table for two to dine, was given a very warm welcome, and by the Male who serves behind the bar, as he welcomed us both in my wife letting me know ok to dine when parking car. Very friendly and warm service from all the staff form placing order at bar, and serving meal, can honestly say best steak pie I have had in ages, with generous portions. Thanks to all for Excellent meal, and making us welcome from start to finish, would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to eat if in area.
