We arrived by train on a very cold wet December afternoon by train ,we were given our room key ,nice clean room but very cold despite putting the wall heater and bathroom heater it took hours to warm up .There are only hooks to hand your coats up as you enter the room no wardrobes and unfortunately we had to go out to dinner later in coats that were still damp from our arrival as the room had not really warmed up. There was a decent choice on a menu at breakfast but wasn’t offered any cereals or fruit juice etc my husband had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs myself eggs benedict which were both nice. Awe had booked to have Sunday lunch wasn’t offered a menu just told there was a choice of beef, Turkey or lamb both of us had the lamb plenty of vegetables with it had to ask if there was a drinks menu as nothing on the table. The chamber staff had called to service our room on the Sunday morning as we were getting ready to go out asked if they could give us 10 minutes unfortunately they never came back and later that afternoon had to go downstairs to see if we could get a toilet roll unfortunately everywhere was closed and in darkness so had to go searching in the public toilet in reception for one . The location is good opposite the park near to amenities but not sure it was good value for money unfortunately no one at reception when we left to voice our complaints to on our check out

Three of us (two adults and an eight year old) stayed in room 1 for a night in Aug 2020. Lovely clean room with a separate room (with sofabed) for our son. Double bed was pretty comfy and the bathroom was spotless. The shower was great too (though super-hot even on the coolest setting).
Dinner in the restaurant was great, lovely service (COVID aware) and great food. Portion sizes spot-on too. Breakfast was also really tasty.
It’s bang opposite the park which is nice for a little wander. And only a couple of minutes and you’re in the centre of Retford.

Had to be in Retford for an 11am meeting Monday, so we travelled there on the Sunday and stayed overnight. So glad we did. The hotel is really lovely, incredibly friendly, quiet and comfortable. The staff were helpful and kind without being obtrusive. The breakfast was truly excellent - beautifully cooked, great local ingredients, served in a handsome dining room.

The park - just opposite the hotel - is a pleasant place and the town has enough of interest to sustain a brief stay. We were very happy to have spent time here. I certainly don't rule out returning for another night's stay just because it was such a pleasant experience.

We stayed in the "Honeymoon room". Checked in and all seemed ok. Got to the room (which was bitterly cold) and noticed only 1 set of towels so went to get the 2nd set. The bath leaked and there was a pool of water all over the floor. This was raised by a previous reviewer so obviously not been fixed since then. Seems like its leaking from 2 places, the cold and hot tap and also under the bath. The shower also did not turn off correctly and had a drip.

There was 1 teabag in the room, that was not in a packet, so god only knows what germs were on it.

When coming back to the room later, it sounded like someone was moving furniture above as it was very loud and a constant noise. We called the number to be told that there was no-one above and it must be the wind affecting the panels on the roof. There is no double glazing so this did not help in terms of the cold.

Breakfast

This is where we hoped it would redeem itself and things got worse.

The room was freezing and the radiator was not on. You had to go and make your own tea and coffee which in itself is not an issue, but you had to pick up a 6 pint bottle of milk to add a bit to your tea.

There were a few cereal packets on the top of the counter, with some "Asda" instant oats if you wanted to mix up your own "porridge". No toast offered and we took a menu from another table.

We ordered the veggie breakfast and this included Quorn sausage. One of the two young gentlemen overseeing breakfast took the order and went off to prep it (yes no proper chef) He then came back to say they had no quorn sausage and was that ok. Not really seeing as that was the main part of the veggie breakfast but obviously wasn't his fault, as I doubt he manages stock. Just poor in terms of not knowing that there wasn't any when the cooked breakfast options were not extensive.

So when the breakfast came, the brown (very cheap) toast was burnt, the beans and tomatoes were cold and so I ended up with 2 poached eggs and a yoghurt.

The room and breakfast was definitely not worth £93.00 and if I had been on Four on a Bed, I would have struggled to hand over £50.00.

The owners need to be closer to their business, improve the quality and overall experience, before they see it go to the wall. I debated whether to book this or the big corporate Best Western.

I did what I try to do and support the smaller business, big mistake on this occasion.

No-one about to hand our room card to when we left, just about sums it up really, cold, uninviting and well below par. Feels like the owners are too far removed and just cost cutting.

Having booked this hotel due to being able to stay in a ground floor room, knowing we would be bringing along our 3 month old daughter, her pram, car seat and travel cot, we were let down upon arrival when given a room on the first floor. We mentioned this to staff who apologised but couldn’t do anything about it. We were then let down even further when we came to get ready for the wedding we were attending, only to find the shower in our room was scalding hot, no way of adjusting the temperature at all! When my husband spoke to a staff member about this they advised they knew there was a problem and had assumed a plumber had been called as other guests had also complained, again no resolution to the problem so we were left to clean ourselves/wash using the sink! Not ideal at all. Finally, when we didn’t think it could get any worse, we arrive back from the wedding to find the doors locked, no mention of this when we checked in, and a sign on the door told us to ring the number given to speak to security, we did this repeatedly and there was no answer!!! After banging on the door to try get the attention of anyone in the building and after contemplating driving to try find other accommodation for the night, another guest called out of their room to inform us the code for the door was on our key card, something once again we had not been told at check in, a system I can see would work if people were actually told about it.
I would NEVER stay here again after this appalling experience and it is a shame as the hotel itself is in a nice location and seems clean & tidy. I have put in a complaint and hope that we are not charged for this stay, that would go some way to making up for how let down we feel.

Saw this hotel on Four in a Bed and thought the owners seemed just lovely people, so decided to have a few nights. Really glad we watched the show or would never have discovered this wee gem of a hotel and yes, the owners are lovely as are the staff. Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the inside courtyard and was just perfect. We thought it may be noisy but was in fact Very peaceful. Very comfortable bed and the curtains, wonderful as they kept our room nice and dark. Loved the mirror in the ensuite as have just enough light overnight to not need to switch the main light on, yet low enough not to disturb sleep.
Breakfast was totally amazing and had the absolute best Eggs Benedict we have ever had, sure beats our usual full English.
Location was great as the Kings Park is opposite the hotel entrance and is a gem to walk through, we found the hidden sculptures chair which is a beauty, tucked beside the cafe. Turn right out of the bar and you are on top of the town in no time.
One real gem we found was if you leave the hotel, turn left and just walk you come to The Brew Shed, well worth popping in for a meal and relax in the garden overlooking the river. You can also return to The Kings Park Hotel via the river, simply beautiful.
Having discovered Redford and this lovely, clean, friendly hotel, we hope to be back at some time but for more than just 3 nights.
The inner courtyard is lovely, though as smokers we got the front patio, which was great as so many locals stop and chat, giving you ideas on where to walk and local amenities that you may not have thought of yourself.

Really friendly greeting on arrival from Wendy. We booked the apartment and it is good value for money. The bedroom is small but nice, big lounge area and separate kitchen which is very well fitted out and has a dining area.

The bathroom is also nicely fitted out. However, when we went to use the shower in the morning, we found that it did not seem to have any cold water so the water was scalding hot and you couldn't stand under the shower. Easily fixed but you would have thought this would have been picked up when they clean the shower.

The second issue we had was that there was an even in the function room. The volume was ridiculously loud - we could not only hear every song word for word but also the people singing along. The DJ was even louder. This didn't stop until 23:45 but nobody warned us this was happening.

I can't believe that people living nearby don't complain about the noise but if this is the norm then they need to consider improving the sound proofing of the venue or of the room.

Final word is for the breakfast. Again, very friendly service and we were very happy with the choices available - cereals, pastries and a full self service cooked breakfast with eggs made to order.

There was nobody around to report the shower or our noise concerns to when we checked out so hopefully this will be read.

It's somewhere I would stay again but only if there is nothing happening in the function room.

A really good hotel, it was clean, the food was great, the staff were friendly. In the past I have not chosen to use this hotel due to the lack of parking. It turns out there is plenty of parking close by and it's free (until 10 in the morning). Our room had a super king size bed which was comfortable the bathroom had separate shower and bath although the bath maybe small for people nearing 6 foot mark. The breakfast was included in the room price, the choice was English or Continental I had the full English it was superb.

Booked this hotel last minute for an overnight stay with my wife and son. We’re both key workers and needed a night away. They cancelled my booking the following day due to COVID restrictions for leisure stays but kept my money, even against the advice of Booking.com. Nothing on their website about these restrictions. Looks like their trying to recoup money from losses due to COVID by robbing innocent families.

Hello, This booking was made during lock down. As we have explained to yourself and to booking.com this was not our choice to restrict stays, this was the choice of the government. The restriction on leisure stays were advertised on all platforms, including our website and on booking.com. This was explained to yourself when we were first in contact with you about the booking. This matter is been dealt with by the hotel and its proprietors.

Just returned from a nights stay here , on arrival the lad on reception very welcoming and helpful , we stayed in a delux room it was a nice size room well decorated and furnished , nice bathroom , large tv but the bed was too soft and the wife now has a bad back . We didn`t eat in the restuarant choice of meals not to our liking , so we got takeaway from Dominoes Pizza 5 minute walk in town centre . Breakfast is really where it all goes wrong , we went down to the resturant / breakfast area after waiting to be seated and ignored by waitress , we seated ourselfs , waitress was completely useless never asked us if we would like tea or coffee or explaind to us it was self service , another guest was nice enough to tell us , the chef was like a mute and never said 2 words to us and on the breakfast bar was a sign that said if you want toast and eggs ask chef so i did , when it was ready he gave me it on too red hot plates and i burnt my hands ( be carefull of this ) he then did the same thing to a old couple . The breakfast wasn`t very nice burnt sausage and fatty bacon , ignorant chef and absolutely useless waitress . So would we stay here again after now having a bad back and burnt fingers NO , unfortunately unless they change the mattress on the beds and the Breakfast staff .
