Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not great. At £150 a night without breakfast it’s actually appalling. The rooms are not cleaned properly. Our room had a door screwed shut and no working sockets by the bed. The gents in reception was not cleaned for the whole weekend we were there. As others have said, if you want to be surrounded by large golf parties where no one cares about others then stay - we had to endure a party outside a room on the ground floor at 2am loud enough to wake the dead. The prices in the bar are London sphere, whilst the choice of wine is Butlins. We ended up cancelling our reservation and heading into Whitchurch on both days and I’m glad we did. We’re back in the area in a month and we are not stepping foot in here again.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel if you are not in a golfing party. Avoid the bar. Avoid the restaurant.

Really the only place you’d stay on business if you needed to!! Rooms are ok, keys are crap and play up. Beds are basic. Walls are stupidly thin and the hotel is popular with large groups of men on golf trips. Was woken up constantly with people talking outside the room at all hours! Shower had someone else’s hair in it, taps are broken one nob came off in my hand and the shower plate looked as though was previously glued on, does not get hot only like warm! Room seems to be missing the tool to open the sink plug also and it’s stuck closed so the sink remained full of water. Something housekeeping ignored again. Tried to book into the spa for a massage at least to be told they had a half hour slot and someone would contact me to discuss a treatment option if possible but the call never came.

The review is mainly for the food and service which was great. The Spa is always great so I don’t want to comment to much. Food was delicious as always and our waitress Karla was lovely. She was very approachable, very pleasant, and quick to get us anything we needed.

Dingy lighting in bedrooms had to sit on a footstool and use the coffee table next to the window to apply makeup for a wedding we were attending .. breakfast came at a price of £25 pp but there was a supplement on smoked salmon and eggs Benedict ?? They didn’t have any salmon on a Saturday morning !! Not that I was prepared to pay extra for it ! The cooked English breakfast was average and hardly filled the plate . The WiFi didn’t work in the bedrooms although advertised as doing .. finally the bar prices were ridiculously expensive £ 14 for a lge glass of red/ white/ or rose with no choice on any Preference .. so it could have been out of a box !!

Went with friends. Husband was playing golf and we were going to the spa. Spa treatment was lovely. Pool, steam room etc was really nice. We had a few drinks and planned on going in to Whitchurch to eat, however we hadn't anticipated the need to pre-book a taxi so ended up staying in the hotel to eat. The food was lovely but was disappointed the vegan options on the website weren't on the menu. No vegan options available. Breakfast was okay but we went at 9.30 and the continental buffet was empty and we were told it would be replenished but when we asked again we were told breakfast was nearly over so it wouldn't be. Had to ask for toast, then ask for butter etc. Staff were very friendly but overall that was a bit disappointing. Hotel room was spacious and very nice. Elemis products in the shower were lovely. Overall very enjoyable and would go back.

A wonderful day at the hotel which was made so special because of the friendly helpful staff and in particular from Karen smith in the golf shop. As a result of her friendly welcome and help we will be returning to the hotel and probably staying longer to enjoy more golf!

A group of 8 of us returned from this place today where we spent the night as part of a spa break for my hen party. There were so many issues with service & food. To beginning with upon arrival we were told by Reception as there are 8 of us the Chef needed our food choices for dinner beforehand. Why not send that to us before our arrival as my sister had been back & forth on email regarding the booking, surely this could have been sent to us prior instead we had to try & pick quickly as we had treatments starting at 3 in the spa & this was 2:40 we asked could they let the spa know we will be a little late. We were told no as the spa is separate & if you’re late here they will take it from your time down there unfortunately. So we had to spilt up & send the first 4 quickly to start treatments. During a treatment the therapist was talking to me to begin with which is fine but she said “Everyone is having a back & neck massage today so you get fed up of doing them.” Whilst I’m having a neck & back massage! Great, just what I wanted to hear. There is no hot tub/ jacuzzi. The sauna is also very small. We went to try the steam room & the smell of urine was absolutely horrific & as there was no steam in there because it didn’t seem to be working properly it meant we could see the puddle of urine of the floor. So I suppose this was a saving Grace. A cleaning lady came & power washed it & it did seem to be working properly the following day & smelt a hell of a lot better. I suspect a child had the accident on the floor as the pool was very busy with children when we first arrived & although Sauna’s & steam rooms are typically for over 18’s only there were children in & out of them & nobody there to enforce this rule. We arrived for dinner, it was 30 minutes before we had any drinks. We ordered 4 mocktails & were told they only have enough berries for 2. Ok so be it but that’s not all they were out of. House wine was £13.50 a glass! All drinks very expensive. Despite pre ordering our food it took 45 minutes to arrive. No offer of condiments a few of us asked for apple sauce & we had one small pot between 6 of us but the staff ran off so quick you didn’t have time to ask again. Service chart of £32.00, we had it removed which we NEVER do but this really was so slow & poor. We were told we could have drinks poolside but ask at the bar which is upstairs for take away cups not glass around the pool which is totally understandable, got to the bar & they have no disposable cups. Which means no drinks poolside just water so if you wanted a coffee you had to leave the spa & go sit upstairs. Service again was slow I waited 25 minutes in an empty bar for a slice of cheesecake. Tried to order a cheese sandwich, were told they had no cheese. Asked for Mayo was brought ketchup instead as was told they have no Mayo left. Bread was stale on the sandwiches we ordered to the point we had to raise it with staff. We were given a refund on the sandwich. Ordered a cream tea which does not come with tea! A cream tea minus the tea. Was served whipped cream with our scones rather than clotted cream & was told they only have one portion of clotted cream left not enough for us all to have & I had to ask for the butter. All drinks & food was very expensive. Saw afternoon tea on the menu & was enquiring but was told if you want afternoon for a few of you then really you have to order it beforehand. Why have it on the bar menu then? At breakfast I don’t think any of the breakfasts came out with the right combination of food, by the time toast came which we had to ask again for, most had almost finished their breakfast & once again we had to ask & wait for butter & were brought one triangle of butter for 8 of us. There was a leak dripping from the ceiling right by the door to the conservatory walk way to the rooms & another we noticed in the bar, not good. Staines on the lamp shade & the wall in our room along with 2 faulty remotes with no back cases so the batteries kept falling out of them. The whole place is tired & dated & needs an urgent revamp & staff training most importantly. I can’t stress how poor the service was from start to finish.

So we booked the hotel for a night away for our anniversary and it didn’t disappoint! On arrival the lady on reception was so friendly and polite, we had a bite to eat and a drink in the bar whilst waiting for check in. Our room was a king size suit and spotlessly clean, we had an amazing stay, breakfast was amazing and the service, Trevor was always on hand for our stay and is a credit to the hotel, we enjoyed it so much we shall be booking again in September, thank you for a lovely stay and the staff are amazing!
