Stayed at this lovely resort the last week in October '23, just days before they were due to close for the season. Read all the reviews and am delighted to say the property exceeded our expectations. So much so that we joined the loyalty club and are hoping to try another Grecotel next year.
To address a few comments in other reviews that had us wondering about our choice prior to staying:-

1 "It is classed as a 5-star and is not a 5-star". IMO this is the difference between resort and hotel rating - it is not a 5-star hotel and would be a 4*+ hotel but is a 5* resort the difference between ratings accounted for.

2. "The buffer is poor quality and to be avoided." When only comparing against all the other restaurant options available you can say it is not as good but the food choice is vast for the buffet and good quality & value. Ideal for families. Tried all restaurants and enjoyed all. Was very surprised how much I enjoyed the Asian/Greek. Best to book all prior to arrival if you can. It is not cheap to eat and drink unless you take the Luxme package!

3. "Rooms are dated and not clean." - In our experience in a room in the main hotel with a sea view the room was fantastic! Yes it has soft pillows and bedding where I prefer hard but my wife loved it for a change. It was very clean and cleaned every day. Massive TV, AirCon, large bed with views we sat enjoying the view with Nespresso every day.  I was proven right the view was SO worth it :)

Things I would recommend after my stay...

- Book accommodation with a sea view it's amazing.
- Luxme is well worth it if you like your food and drink - I got a high quote from reception but got a lower one from the customer services manager so call asking for her maybe!? €80pp for lunch, dinner, Afternoon Tea, refill Nespresso, room drinks and all cocktails/bar drinks! Even better value if you have kids under 12yrs.

- If you like sea swimming buy/bring the swimming shoes as the stones are just too difficult to walk on and can hurt your feet.

- Beds at the poolside are padded but not by the sea so pick which you want early on. Is a pitty not padded near the sea but if they were might never leave.

- A taxi is a little less expensive than bus transfer.

- Cycle into KOS one day is worth it as is Bus into town - less expensive dining but also has a few sights nice to see.

Best memories - like sitting in a glossy holiday magazine picture every evening. The View from almost every location. The weather in late October 26C and sunny. The dining experience in all restaurants. The friendly and very attentive helpful staff. The bedroom with the balcony and the sea view.

Let me start of by saying I left my heart here and I will most definitely be returning one day. I spent the most AMAZING week here with my partner in July, I just wish it could have been longer. The hotel itself and it’s surroundings are absolutely gorgeous as are the rooms. The rooms are very light and airy and they are kept to a very good standard. The amenities are great, there’s plenty of pools and bars to choose from and we never had a issue finding a lounger, the spa was also very good. I would also recommend the al a carte restaurant the food was beyond this world I’ve never tasted anything so good! As for the staff I have nothing to say but good things! Every staff member I had encounters with were lovely they all went above and beyond to offer help and to make sure our stay was going as perfectly as it should. They were all so friendly, always had a smile on their faces, and wanted nothing more than for us to have a fantastic time. I actually really enjoyed seeing them everyday, they made my holiday that bit more better and they were always there when we needed them. They were nothing short of amazing from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. They also helped my partner arrange our engagement and they were great he’s so happy with the help they had given him to make it extra special and I give them huge thanks for that to, they were all their so excited for us when it happened to. I could honestly boast about this place all day I really could. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. You’d be missing out not to go!

Firstly, I would agree with other reviewers that this is not a five star hotel.

That said the main hotel ,pools and gardens are all very beautiful and well-kept. However our room bore no resemblance to the one shown on the website. The bathroom tiles were old and cracked with a shower curtain rather than a screen . It was however comfortable, with beautiful views and an excellent maid service who kept the room clean

The staff were all excellent and welcoming. Particular mention to Elena in the restaurant who was always happy smiling and gave us a lot of tips to do on the island

The food was good and plentiful, although somewhat repetitive. Covid sanitation was excellent throughout the restaurant

One of the reasons we chose the hotel was because there was an adult only pool. Unfortunately this was not true and children were allowed in all the pools. Despite the fact that there are enough sunbeds to go round people start laying towels on them around 7 o’clock and unless you get down early it’s impossible to get one on the beach.
Annoyingly many of those reserved never seem to be occupied during the day .

Sadly the hotel is not within walking distance of other bars and restaurants. But the bus to Kos town takes 10 minutes and is located right outside the hotel.

All in all I would recommend this hotel if you can get it at the right price but would not pay a five star price for it .

Dear guest, First of all, we would like to thank you for your staying with us and for taking time to write us your online review on Trip Advisor. Here at Grecotel, we value highly our guests’ remarks, as they allow us to keep improving. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed the hotel facilities and the hospitality of our colleagues during your stay. Here at Grecotel we value highly our staff, as they are an irreplaceable part of our hotel. Your kind remarks are a further recognition of our common efforts. Kindly note that we are going to forward your praise to our mentioned colleague. In reference to the buffet, we are surprised that you did not like the variety of Greek and international recipes made by local products. It should be noted our Group follows a pro-environmental policy and we are trying to avoid food waste as much as possible. On the other hand, in order to avoid repetition every day is a theme day at the main restaurant ( Fish day, Asian night, BBQ, taste Kos, Chef Selection etc.). That way our guests take both a bite at the Greek gastronomical culture, while the sustainability is taken in consideration. Regardless, please note that your remarks are going to be forwarded to all involved parties so that we can get more creative in the future. Concerning the pool, kindly note that nowhere on our website it is mentioned that we have an adult only pool ( https://www.kosimperial.com/summer-activities.html ). There is one pool that it is called quiet pool, due to its remote location from the other pools. However, it is not to be confused with adults only, as our hotel is a family hotel. As for the sun beds, please take in consideration that our Group follows strictly all the covid-19 related regulations. Therefore, we are not allowed to place the sun beds denser. Nonetheless, we understand that this regulation is causing an inconvenience to our guests. That’s why we have already added more sun beds in the perimeter of the already existing ones. Thank you once more for your constructive critic. We look forward to welcoming you again at one of our hotels Best regards The Management Team of Grecotel Kos Imperial

This hotel is not a 5 star, on arrival the external gardens looked okay, hotel reception open area no air con,the night porter and two other members of staff eventually checked us in, we were taken to our bungalow which was down steps, I could not believe my eyes it was like a throw back to the seventies, chipped floor and wall tiles, rusty bin and taps in the bathroom, towels were threadbare and had a foisty smell, a shower curtain was over the bath not a glass partition/door, the toilet was stained.
The bed was floor level, similar to a futon, mattress was rock hard, one very thin sheet and a cover, no duvet, we could hardly open the door to outside.
There were lots of cockroaches and we had to put a towel at the door so they did not come under the door, a brush fitted would suffice.
The pool area was covered with dead cockroaches, I realises this cannot be helped however as a five star standard I expect to have pool service and somebody to take them away and generally clean the pool area?, the pool did not open till 10.00, we are only there for the sun and the pool, we were down at 8!!!! so was everybody else, a pool bar did exist but was useless because there were no seats at the pool bar!
The staff at the the hotel were hit and miss some were ok, some were miserable and did not want us there.
The towel hut was open at 10.00 ish!!! I use this loosely because it was when hey felt like it, 10.20 or 30 or 40 !!!
The lifeguards were standing by the pool bar in the shade drinking water, a young child did get into trouble in our pool and the parents luckily notice, the lifeguard was totally oblivious.
Departure: we paid 65 Euros to keep our room on, no fresh towels were given, no housekeeping in sight, we used fresh pool towels and I had brought a towel from home because I could not stand the smell of the room towel, we were told we could enjoy out all inclusive benefits until departure, we went into the restaurant to eat our evening meal to be told I'm sorry you cannot eat in here, I went up to reception who told me I could have had my evening meal until 5pm, the restaurant did not open until 6.30 I wasn't being picked up until 21.10, eventually I was given a card to give to the restaurant so we could eat, like a scene out of Oliver, 'pease sir can I have some food',
We normally stay at the Ikos another 5 star head and shoulders above this one, I will never stay here again, tis is no way a five star accommodation.
I would recommend this hotel is closed down and refurbished to five star 2022 standards.

Dear Guest, First of all, we would like to thank you for your visit at our hotel and for taking time to post this online review on TripAdvisor. Reading your remarks, we would like, to allow us, to provide you with our answers from our perspective. Firstly, you refer to the gardens looked okay, whilst our guests take constantly photos of the gardens and upload it on Social Media talking about how well kept they are. Concerning the air conditioning at the reception, you do mention, that you arrived during the night. The reception is in an open space and the air temperature on the island is never above 24 degrees of Celsius, therefore an air-conditioning would not make any sense. In your review you mention, that you were escorted to the bungalow and your bungalow had down steps, which are a few (4-5). The hotel is built on inclined landscape and therefore the construction would not be possible otherwise. As for the establishment of the hotel, it should be mentioned at this point, that is has been built in 2002 and not in 1970. The fact, that you did not like the architecture, is an issue of your personal taste, which is your right to have. In respect of the toilet, you do have right. It should be mentioned though, that this resort is seasonal. Therefore, all the rooms are out of order during winter. Our group has made a personal choice to start cleaning the rooms one month in advance, so that we can provide the rooms in a shape, which complies to our standards. An easy solution would have been to use strong cleansers and bleaches (highly acidic). However, the fact that our facilities are connected with the biological clarifying installations, force us to use ecological cleansers , in order to make sure, that the microorganism population of the municipality's instalations are kept alive. On the other hand, whether we used the highly acidic detergents , it would have lead us to hinder the ecological commitment we have as a group and to the community, where the resort is located. Regarding, the cockroaches, allow us to explain the situation to you. These insects are beetles, Polyphylla fullo, which are totally harmless. During June it is their mating season, and they gather all together and then they die. This happens until the 25th of June and it has to do with the pine trees that are near to the hotel facilities. The use of the pool is allowed earlier. The opening hours that you mention in your review, is the same to all the hotels, as these have been adjusted to the presence of a lifeguard. It should be clarified, that of course you can make the use of the pool beyond the opening times, however at your own risk. Regarding your comments about the lifeguards, it is allowed to supervise from time to time under a shady place, as the temperature under which they work, can contribute to a quick dehydration, if they are not careful enough. Concerning the late check out, we would like to point out, that all the hotels in the world charge this extra service. You mention that your package expired at 17:00 and that dinner started at 18:30. Worldwide in all hotels dinner is served from 18:30. Regardless, there were three places, where you could have had something to eat until 17:00. Food court, light fare menu and room service. Comparing two different hotels, which both have been recognized by the greek state as 5* hotels seems right on the face of it. Having said that, the mentioned hotel charges 2,5 times more than what we do. We just want you to see things from our perspective. Moreover, it would be nice, when you have a complaint about the hotel, to give to the staff a chance, to find a direct solution. We do believe, that you were not properly informed about the provided service of the hotel, since all the mentioned issues in your review would not have occured. We thank you once more for your review Best regards The Management Team of Grecotel Kos Imperial

All inclusive, but not how you would expect. We are hear now & we booked through Tui. We booked main building sea view room, after waiting for over 1.5 hours to get into or room we got a room, not main building & definitely not sea view. After checking further 2 rooms finally got what we had paid for. Sea view main building.

If you want to go All inclusive for peace of mind expecting it to mean All inclusive, ie bottled water to be replaced in your room fridge, this is not for you. I have asked for Spiced rum & coke, local brands would be good enough, this is extra charge, bottled water in room is deemed room service & has an extra charge.

We chose Grecotel Kos because we previously had stayed at Grecotel on mainland Greece & everything was all inclusive even Named brands. This is not the case here. It does not state this when booking through Tui & it make no reference to different levels of all inclusive. Hotel not prepared to do anything about it & blame Tui for bad description.
Beautiful place, very clean & staff are all as they should be. But be warned. Tui rep said she can’t do anything about all inclusive either.
You can make your own mind, we are well seasoned travellers & had I have read my review lol before booking I would have avoided or at least looked into the all inclusive .

Dear Guest, First of all we would like to thank you for your stay and for taking time to write a review at Trip Advisor. Here at Grecotel, we value highly our guests’ remarks, as they allow us to keep improving. However, allow us to explain the situation to you. Concerning the check-in process, it should be brought up at this point, that our Group follows strictly all covid-19 related guidelines and therefore the cleaning process of the rooms take longer than prior the pandemic. Moreover, it should be also mentioned that Greek law regarding check-in states that it check in can begin from 15:00. Regarding the all inclusive package, kindly note that this includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and a selection of drinks. It should be mentioned at this point, that local drinks have limited production therefore cannot be put in the unlimited consumption of all inclusive. The inclusions are clearly mentioned on our Grecotel App and on our Guest Portal https://guestportal.grecotel.com/ . Regarding the other all inclusive package, this was a concept that was to be implemented to our hotel this year, in order to be able to provide a wider selection to our guests. However, due to the impact of covid-19 to the travel industry, we stopped from selling it, in order to adapt to the new demand. We would like to thank you once more for your remarks, as they will definitely allow us to walk that extra mile for our guests. Best regards The Management Team of Grecotel Kos Imperial

We have just come back from a week’s holiday in Kos and what an incredible week it was.
Firstly, we arrived the early hours of Sunday morning and was welcomed by the two most wonderful staff at reception. They checked us in promptly and without hassle. (Right, there is more to say about these two… I’ll get there).

The hotel was conveniently located on the beach front, the complex had 4 main pools each suited to different guests. There were plenty of sunbeds; therefore, none of that ridiculous business of guests leaving their towel on beds for hours before they even get there… chill you’re on holiday, you will have a place to catch them rays. It was an ideal spot to have a drink, the drinks were a tad pricey if you’re not all inclusive, but it helped my liver.

Breakfast was great, so much choice! We ate at Restaurant a la carte for 2 nights at the hotel, the staff were accommodating to allergies, specifically to me when it came to gluten free dishes, it was very reassuring they understood and took it seriously. The view was gorgeous and with a glass of rosé it had all the right aesthetics for my sisters Instagram – sounds sad but I know this will be important to a lot of people.

Moving on, I highly recommend getting the bus into Kos town, it’s a 10-minute bus ride into the centre and the bus stop is LITERALLY right outside the hotel so there is 0 chance of getting confused or lost. However, would be a good idea to ask the staff at the hotel to book you a taxi if you want to go a bit further afield.

Finally, I would like to finish off by saying a massive THANK YOU to Harry and Pluto on night shift at reception. I can’t even begin to describe how friendly, warm, and just all round amazing people they are. It’s safe to say, these two were the cherry on top of a great stay. Seriously, if you stay here be sure to say hello to them, they can give you great recommendations for bars, restaurants, and places to visit! Harry and Pluto, you guys are great, continue being awesome!

We have recently returned from a week at this lovely resort. From the moment we arrived, late in the evening, to the time we left we were treated very well by all of the staff and welcomed with food and drinks. The communal areas of the resort are very well tended and look beautiful. The pools are cleaned daily and there were gardeners present tending the beds. There were always enough sunbeds and these were clean and comfortable. Sadly the pools were all freezing including the jacuzzi so this did take away from the enjoyment of swimming. There is also the option of the private beach which we did not use and, in hindsight, the sea was probably warmer than the pool.
We stayed in a bungalow maisonette with a view over the main pool and although comfortable and quiet this was quite dated inside. The room was clean and tidy and maintained on a daily basis by lovely cleaning staff but the decor needs a bit of an upgrade. There were two bathrooms but the shower in the upstairs one was not sealed to the wall and water leaked out from underneath all over the floor. Thankfully this did not come through to the lower floor and we did report it to reception but no-one attended to see what was wrong or do anything about it during our stay. There is a kettle provided for morning tea/coffee but the milk was not replenished after the first day. We did, however, usually go straight to breakfast so this was not an issue.
We were not all inclusive but took breakfast daily in the lagoon restaurant which was a lovely experience. We also stayed at the resort for lunch as it was very easy to go the taverna and then straight back to the beds. The waiting staff were always very pleasant too.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would definitely recommend this resort and I would also be happy to return. My overall thought is that the resort is 5 star but the accommodation is not and could do with an upgrade but this did not detract from my enjoyment.

Arrived at 2.30am & was checked in and taken to room quicky.

Room initially felt dated but the bed was really comfortable, the room was cleaned daily, the shower was hot. Had a patio area with sea and pool views. We upgraded to all inclusive and had a mini bar stocked daily

Food: Buffet was nice, felt like a lot of the food was oily but a good choice. The buffet area felt cramped compared to other hotels I’ve stayed in, it felt like people were always walking in to you.

A La Carte restaurant: real disappointment, food was the poorest we had all week. Service was slow.

Stone Grill: The stone grill and a la carte was in the same room so there was people having either one or the other. Stone grill was much better.

Greek Night: set in a great location, starter was lovely (probably the best starter we had) main was also tasty. But disappointed that the Greek night didn’t include traditional dancers as we experienced elsewhere however there wasn’t the space to do this. To get to the greek restaurant you have to walk through the buffet

Asian Night: same location as the Greek night, good food. In all these restaurants the staff were friendly and helpful.

Pool Bar: we went here most days for either ice cream or a light lunch, the gyro was nice but I found if you arrived late after the initial rush had died down there were flies on the food.

Cocktails during the day were ok, eg a strawberry daiquiri instead of being a slushy consistency were more ice cubes

We went in mid Oct and the pools were freezing, as was the sea. Too cold to go in them. But they were clean and there were always plenty of sun loungers. We could arrive at 10.30 and still find lots free.

Hotel Grounds – immaculate, well maintained, clean, you definitely got a 5 star feel from the grounds. Gym was dated with limited equipment, we ran outside rather than on the treadmill as the aircon wasn’t always on. Beach is stoney and there is a man-made sandy beach.

We had a late flight on the last day so asked for the room rather than checking out at 12pm, this cost us 80 euros although reading other reviews this seems to change

We found the other guests were predominantly German, the TV in the room catererd for Germans, only the news was in English.

The staff were really friendly the hotel was great, would recommend
The bus to Kos Town was packed each time it went past so didn't pick anyone up. We ended up (along with many others) paying for a taxi to Kos Town (12 euros) ad getting the bus back

Spent 3 nights here recently with a friend.
The initial arrival is a wow. Lovely grounds overlooking the sea. Plently of pools, well kept gardens.
Upon check in we were shown around by a lovely guy who gave us information about the restaurants, bars and facilities
The big let down was our room. This is supposed to be 5 star luxury.
The room decor was bland and uninviting.
In our bungalow we had a double bed in one room and two singles in the other room of which I had one. However, there was not a light switch anywhere near me so to go to the bathroom (through the double bedroom) in the pitch datk was perilous to say the least.
Housekeeping was not up to standard at all.
One of the complimentary housecoats had a pocket and belt loop hanging off. We requested a new one from reception which was duly delivered. But they failed to take the faulty one away even though we laid it on the bed so they could see it was faulty!
Other faults light fittings hanging off, loose shower rail. I could go on.....
The food in the main restaurant was buffet style and average to say the least.
Due to covid you had to put on disposable gloves EVERYTIME you entered the food area. (horrendous for the planet) At this time I think they would have been better to provide a set menu with 3 or four choices per course and serve it at your table.
There is a dress code for evenings in the restaurant but people didnt seem to follow it and the staff never spoke out
Definately not worth the €200 plus per night

Dear Guest, First of all we would like to thank you for your stay and for taking time to write a review at Trip Advisor. Here at Grecotel, we value highly our guests’ remarks, as they allow us to keep improving Regarding the rooms, kindly note that we are aware of the fact that they need redesign. This was planned for 2020 but it was postponed due to the pandemic. However, please rest reassured that the rooms are being regularly cleaned and maintained. Concerning the mentioned issues, it should be mentioned, that had you brought this to our attention, we would have taken care of it. Concerning the cleaning service, our staff is regularly being trained with covid-19 related and hygienic protocols that we are following. Furthermore, we use globally recognized cleaning products and cleaning process . Nonetheless, we are saddened that our provided service did not meet our guests’ expectations. Please stay reassured that we are going to forward these remarks to relevant departments. As for the food, we are surprised that you did not like the varied dishes from Greek and international cuisine. Furthermore, it should be mentioned that our Group follows a pro environmental policy and therefore we actively avoid food waste. For that reason, we have a weekly food schedule, so that our guests have a diversified culinary experience. Regardless, we are going to take your remarks into consideration, so that we can get more creative. In reference to the gloves, please note that their use is in accordance with the covid-19 related guidelines from the Greek Government and WHO. As already mentioned our Group is actively following a sustainable policy, since earth is our only home. However, in this case we do not have an alternative as the buffet has many surfaces of frequent use and thus making it an ideal environment for the spread of the virus, should we have not taken these measures. We do understand that this leaves a serious impact on our environment, but the gloves are considered a priori contaminated and thus cannot be recycled. We would like to thank you once more for your remarks, as they will definitely allow us to walk that extra mile for our guests. We do hope that you will give us another chance in the future and to provide you with the Greek hospitality that Grecotel is well known for. Best regards The Management Team of Grecotel Kos Imperial

I've just spent a week on an all inclusive package as a solo traveller here and having read the trip advisor reviews before I travelled I was a bit nervous however had a fabulous week.

Ignoring the debate on how many stars this hotel should have and looking at the price I paid I thought it was fantastic, for £900 inc flights & all inclusive (plus considering single occupation of a double room) I thought it was fantastic. My room was really comfortable, clean and a decent size, yes you could argue it could do with a bit of updating but I hardly spent any time in it and slept really well so ticked all my boxes!

Pools were great and kept really clean, this is a family hotel so you can't complain about there being kids around the pool area like some reviews! Yes pools were a bit cold but still good enough to cool off in and enjoy a swim. I didn't really use the beach area, i much prefer pools but did have a quick dip. It isn't a sandy beach though so if thats what you're after then don't look here...though this is pretty clear on descriptions so not sure what people expected!

I had lunch. every day at the pool bar area, food was great, the gyros were delicious, service here was great as were the coffees and cocktails on offer. The buffet dinner was organised chaos but when isn't it at all inclusive hotels, service was great and the food was delicious. I had on night in the a la carte restaurant which was also lovely. The lobby bar was my favourite hang out and great as a solo traveller, lots of great places to sit with a book or enjoy the view, great service and great drinks! On all inclusive i think it's usual to not get all drinks included, on all of menus it was really clear with the letters "AI" what was included and there was plenty of choice!

Only negative was that the indoor pool was shut due to covid, however this is clear on the grecotel website/app just wasn't' clear on the Jet2 booking site. Also make sure you download that Grecotel, it has all the menu's and info you need on it!

Overall a fabulous holiday that was great value for money and gave me exactly what i was after!
