Detailed Reviews
I've stayed at the Talardy a few times now whilst visiting my sister who lives nearby the most recent stay being 9th-11th of August. I've only ever stayed in the "Lodge" to the side of the main hotel/restaurants. The rooms are always spotlessly clean and very spacious. Breakfast is always lovely and even with covid and no buffet to pick your items from you order from your waitress who was quite impressive as she knew every option available! The coffee here is amazing, much better than Starbucks or Costa. You get a hair dryer in your room which is also a good touch and it's a proper one not like the ones you get abroad. We were really impressed with the temperature of our room as there is a control panel you have full control over to pick your perfect temperature, it was really hot outside so the cleaners had set our temperature low and the room was nice and cool our full stay. The only reason I've rated it 4 stars and not 5 is because last year we paid 55 pounds a night and this year it was 75 pounds a night. Breakfast also isn't included in the price and is about £9s pp per day. I feel the hotel is very similiar to a Premier Inn, almost the exact same really and breakfast is included at Premier Inns.
Anyway perhaps the pricing was higher this time due to being closed for over 4 months during covid. Social distancing and special measures put in place are all well respected by the staff and there is plenty of space in the restaurant/ bar area to spread out. Hand sanitising stations available and staff cleaning down tables often. Thanks for our stay!

Thank you so much for your lovely review and for all the information you provided for other travellers who may read it. Just to clarify a couple of things you mentioned. The room rates are set by our central reservations team at Marstons Head Office and are based on a couple of key factors ie how busy we are on the date you wish to book for and how far in advance you book ( so the less availability we have for a certain date and generally the later you book, the more expensive it will be - similar to the system that a lot of hotel and travel companies use). Also a full cooked breakfast incl a selection of continental items can be added to you reservation at the cost of £7.45 per person per day but children under 12 currently eat free, if accompanied by a paying adult. Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again some time in the future.

What a handy location, next to the A55 but not disturbed by it. St Asaph sites you witching easy reach of most North Wales attractions.
The hotel is of two parts, a modern annex which is extra bedrooms only and the main unit which looks to have been a grand house at one time. Today it is a very welcoming hotel. The staff are helpful, friendly and professional.
The restaurant serves a reduced covid menu but still has varied choices to suit most palettes. The beers are fairly standard as it is a Marston’s house but well priced as is the food. The service was prompt and the dinner delicious.
Our bedroom was in the annex. A good electronic card security system allowed us entrance to the building and our room which was spotlessly clean, standard layout with a large modular bathroom with a bath not just a shower. The bed was comfortable and the temperature just right.
Breakfast was booked for specific times and the offerings were filling and tasty, setting us up for a hard day walking. We thought the Talardy hit all the right buttons and was at a bargain price too. Well done!

If you are looking to stay at a venue central to the North Wales business community then this is a great location for a hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean and better than any premier inn type accommodation. However booked it as part of a team building type function and by the time we had food we are being asked to pay our bill by 1030 and being told that we need to leave at 1115. Do not expect normal hotel opening hours with guests being left feeling as an inconvenience over staff requirements. Who is paying?!!!

We stayed at The Talardy for a couple of nights in a family room in the main building and couldn’t fault it. The room for a family of four was a lovely size with a big bathroom. The room was very warm, but a fan was there for us and we could open the window, so it wasn’t uncomfortable. We will definitely stay again.

I stayed at the talardy because my first stay last year I knew it was a lovely place. This time was awful, the toilet seat was broken, so the landlord taped it as he couldn’t get maintenance. He gave me a free drink and evening meal. I treated some friends to a meal as a surprise, there was some confusion about paying as we sat outside the manager took me to one side and asked when I was paying, we were to stay drinking there? So I paid and felt embarrassed because despite being told the manager hadn’t passed on to the bar staff that my meal was in light of a broken loo seat . When I went to bed it was lumpy and the (all) pillow stunk and the mattress felt like it was higher on one side. I tried the other bed, I even pushed them together. At 3.30am I gave up, drove home. I missed seeing family and friends I had arranged to see. I was so tired I would not have enjoyed it. I immediately emailed the talardy and told them. In an email they told me they use Hypnos mattresses and had no problem. He offered me 2 free nights, they are of no use to me as family is moving away. I asked for a refund (£240) for 2 nights. I haven’t had one. The room had dark cobwebs over window and carpet wasn’t hoovered properly either. I will never go back there again

Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. I am extremely surprised that you found the mattress to be lumpy as we have rarely had any complaints about the Hypnos mattresses either before or since your stay, despite constant use. I wish you had mentioned the other problems with your room when you reported the toilet as we would have been able to resolve them also these other issues were not mentioned in your original E-mail, which surprises me I apologise about you feeling embarrassed about asking to pay your bill, but as you say this was down to confusion. The free stay was purely a gesture of goodwill and I am sorry that you declined the offer.

I just needed a bed for the night as I was visiting an unwell family member in the area, and it was considerably cheaper than the (newish) Premier Inn up the road , which I have stayed in .Though I thought £60 a night without breakfast for a 'tired' hotel ,out off-season midweek was quite a lot I have fond memories of it -I was born locally and have been a bridesmaid at receptions there in my youth. The lady who checked me in was very pleasant .I didn't eat there so cannot comment The downstairs rooms look in reasonable condition. I believe they were refurbished following a flood a few years ago.
The room was a decent size, clean and reasonably furnished .Though hanging space not a wardrobe .The bed was comfortable . And it was warm .Which I appreciated as it was a very cold night However there was no radiator in the bathroom, which made it a bit unwelcoming . Te and coffee supplies would have been a bit mean for a couple though I'm sure they would have given me more had I asked. What let it down were the windows ,which desperately need replacing. Rotten frames and condensation running down the inside. I wasa bit puzzled as to why they put me on the side nearest the nearby (busy) dual carriageway too. I doubt the hotel was full .Cetainly there were no guests visible in the public rooms when I went out 5.45and returned about 9.45 But hadn't the energy to complain The window cleaner appeared outside at 9am Which was a bit disconcerting as I'd opened the blinds and curtains. Fortunately I was dressed. A warning would have been good ....It was OK but I certainly wouldn't stay here fora holiday. There is a good- sized car park (It had electric charging points I think ) and I felt perfectly safe ( I was 'older' woman alone ).

Thank you for your review and we are pleased that you found the rooms to be safe, spacious, clean, warm and with comfortable beds. As the main building at the Talardy is listed we have installed secondary double glazing are we cannot replace the listed windows with modern UPVC. The rooms in the recently built lodge are only 6 years old. Extra tea and coffee are indeed available on request but as you didn't request any more then I assume there were sufficient in your room. Thanks again for the in depth review

We booked to stay here for 2 nights, after reading the excellent reviews we had no doubt it would be a great place to stay as a base for days out in Towyn and Llandudno. Check in was easy and the staff seemed friendly. We were given the keys to room 101, on the approach to the room we realised it was the first room when you entered the building, our room door was practically touching the front door, I did raise the concern to my husband but thought we should be fine?! on first inspection the room was ok, apart from the dirty hand prints all over the wall, bathroom needed a revamp but for somewhere to use as a base it was satisfactory.
We bedded down for the night around 10pm as we had a very busy day planned on the Saturday. That’s when we realised we had the worst room in the building, every time the front door opened it slammed shut, causing the whole room to practically shake, this went on until after 12 and occasionally during the night also, and started again around 6am, The noise was unreal! Not to mention the noisy families letting their children run up and down the corridor opening and closing the door.
We had no sleep! And went straight to speak to someone in reception around 8am we where greeted by an angry man who was waiting on in the restaurant, he asked us what we would like him to do, I tried to show him the video I had taken of the noise, to which he replied no I believe you! (To me this means he is more than aware of the issues with staying In this room). I said we wanted to be moved, he said it couldn’t be done as they where fully booked. I’ll give you your money back, he suggested quickly walking us back over to the hotel reception. I explained I had booked things for my family for the Sunday and at this point was looking on my phone for somewhere else to stay. He wasn’t interested and asked for the card we paid on.
It ruined our weekend, we had to cancel things we had paid for on the Sunday and return home as we didn’t have anywhere to stay as everywhere was fully booked up, and therefore lost money. My children where really upset.
Although we got our money back, I wanted to warn others. If your given room 101 ask for a room change there and then. Maybe we would of had a much better stay in a different room. But the fact of the matter is that we had paid £120 a night for a room the staff are more than aware has problems.

Thank you for your feedback about your recent visit and I am sorry that you found the room to be noisy. As you state a full refund was given immediately as there were no other options to relocate. We have had no other complaints of this nature, and you intimate that staff were aware of this problem, which is not the case.

Huge thanks to Frank, Chloe and Oregon for their very helpful and friendly welcome and assistance over the last couple of days. I stayed on my own as a totally blind person and the staff could not do enough to help. My room was clean and breakfast was very enjoyable, both in quality and quantity. I would highly recommend the Talardy, especially if you are disabled person travelling on your own.

Room was fine, comfy, clean, couldn't fault it for the price. The housekeeper was very obliging and made sure that we had everything . Although we arrived early the duty manager went out of his way to see if our room was ready (It was) Well done to him as it was raining heavy at the time but he still ran to the accommodation wing to check.
Food in the restaurant was excellent and the way that the covid issues were managed was very professional.

We booked via Hotels.com at the Talardy, which was maybe where we went wrong - we were told via Hotels.com that we could pay for early check-in on arrival (and it was booked for us). On arrival none such service was in place and we had a wedding to go to. The staff at the Talardy were very helpful and considerate, and asked the cleaner to look at our room next. Bar and restaurant staff were also friendly though we didn't eat there (the roast chickens looked good!). The room was pretty standard, clean but v big, bed was comfy and huge. Our room was right next to the entrance to the building so we got quite a bit of door slamming when people came in and out, but nothing which disturbed our sleep.

I can confirm that we do provide travel cots on request but we advise our guests to bring their own bedding or baby sleeping bag as we use an external laundry company and cannot account for the detergent they use.
