Exceptional B&B

I rarely post reviews unless to complain as I expect to be welcomed into a clean, friendly and hospitable environment.
However today I write a review to compliment our hosts Andrew and Louise who completely exceeded our requirements with a smile and pleasant conversation.
The Blue Mantle is a gem and if one needs a base to explore this wonderful part of the world then I fully recommend you consider this excellent establishment.
Located in the lovely town of Wellington offering local parking with easy access to public transport
Just as a point the rooms are spotless with very comfortable beds and quality decor
As a final point the breakfasts are very tasty of which I thoroughly enjoyed
Therefore I totally recommend The Blue Mantle as you will not be disappointed

Well, I have had such a great stay. Its my second visit here. Rooms spotless, locality perfect, great transport links to the bigger town etc, although Burnham on Sea was incredibly windy, Minehead was stunning. Exter and Torquay are all within a short drive.

Andrew and Louise are great hosts, they settle you in, serve great breakfasts and are so genial and approachable. Excellent for couples and singles alike.

Just a few pointers which are worth knowing beforehand that make the Blue Mantle all that more quirkier and intriguing...

A) Be aware that there is a bus stop directly across the road, it has no signage or road markings but it does exist!

B) The rooms come with the usual facilities but also some, if not all have sash windows.

C) Wellington has a selection of pubs etc but we were more than pleased to bring our own back from the local supermarket.

D) They do have a small family, all of which are so well behaved but bear that in mind.

E) Andrew is a Countdown champion and a very witty young man and his raconteur approach is so enlightening.

We will be returning in 2021 as I have discovered a hidden gem in the land of great Cider, great Cheese, great breakfasts and great hosts.

Great hospitality here with an ideal location to visit pubs and restaurants nearly. I booked a single room with en-suite facilities, shower gel and soap provided not forgetting tea/coffee offerings. I opted for break fast and had a full English, which was superb with great quality and locally sourced products. Good value at £6 too. Parking is free from 6pm to 8am.

We stayed one night at the Blue Mantle on our way to Cornwall, the guesthouse is owned and run by Andrew and his Family. On arrival Andrew was very welcoming and helpful answering our questions about parking nearby. He showed us to our room and let’s us know he had made provision for our request for a gluten fee breakfast for my wife. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, it had an en-suite including a shower. TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime video are available if you have our own account to log in with. After a comfortable and restful overnight we both enjoyed the breakfast mine a full English which was brilliant and the gluten free for my wife as we requested. Andrews charming young daughter helped the breakfast service run smoothly and courteously by offering more tea or coffee. Andrew is a great host one of the best we have encountered. The Blue Mantle is located conveniently in Wellington and the breakfast room is delightful with floor to ceiling windows keeping the room bright even on our rainy morning departure.
Well done Family we were made to feel welcome and valued guest and the cooked breakfast was marvellous.

My wife and I stayed for three nights at the Blue Mantle in August while in the area for a wedding. The communication with Andrew prior to our arrival was very clear, and prompt. Andrew was a fantastic host who was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. He also made us delicious cooked breakfasts which we ate in the lovely front room with beautiful, large period windows overlooking Mantle Street. He kindly let us drop off our bags prior to checkin. This is a family-run guesthouse and we enjoyed meeting Andrew and Louise's delightful four children.

They purchased this grade 2 listed property in 2018 and the renovations have been done with love and care.

The room we stayed in (room 8) was very comfortable, quiet and clean with a large separate toilet and shower. Although it was not ensuite, it felt very private as it was next door and there was a fire door between it and the next bedroom.

I highly reommend this guesthouse. We thouroghly enjoyed our stay.

Stopped here on my way to Torquay from Scotland via Liverpool. Very reasonable rates by a family run business and Andrew was a great host, helped me with bags from the car and as it turns out is a former countdown champion and his trophy sits proudly in the breakfast lounge's Blue mantle piece. The rooms were cosy and had what you needed, they were spotlessly clean. The breakfast was cooked to order and was plentiful and delicious. Wetherspoons pub is 150 yards down the road at the traffic lights so its a perfect wee bolthole for a short stay and there is a cider farm around the corner for supplies. We loved it and would definitely return if in the area again, great value for money as opposed to likes of Travel Lodge etc nearby but not in town.

This place is a gem. The rooms are comfortable, the hosts friendly and the location in the town centre perfect. The room price is kept low because breakfast is an extra, but worth every penny if you like a cooked breakfast. I can recommend poached egg on crumpet!

The Blue Mantle is in a great location in Wellington Town centre. We had a lovely
ensuite room. The breakfast, served in a beautiful room at the front of the house was plentiful and excellent quality, using local produce. Andrew is a friendly and helpful host.

Last month my wife and I had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at this B&B. The host and family were delightful, Andrew was very helpful with local information. The breakfast was cooked to order and excellent, all ingredients good quality, enough to see us through till the evening. The room was spotlessly clean and bed very comfortable a few small tweaks would be beneficial for this lovely room. for example in our particular room extra hooks or towel rails and larger shelf for toiletries etc also in the shower a hanging caddy for shampoo etc. the washbasin is a little small for wet shaves there is enough room to have a larger basin or if the shelf was higher it could help. These are just helpful suggestions as we wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Glenys |& Dave Williams
