Lovely stay at the Blackbird Inn. We booked an over night stay on our way to cornwall to break up the journey. The rooms were comfortable, we had 2 kind size rooms on the front on the building ( it is situated on a main road but wasn't noisey)
We had breakfast included and we paid for evening meal. The restaurant was lovely and there is a lovely garden setting at the back, Food was excellent and Peter,Claire and the rest of the staff were brilliant, taking time out to chat and see if we were ok.
Thanks for a lovely stay and we will definitely stay again.

A last minute business trip (found out at lunch for that evening) saw me stay here last night and I’m so glad I did.
I checked availability on line and called about 4pm to book. The gentleman I spoke with confirmed it was ok for me to arrive “out of normal hours” (circa 10pm) and that parking was available for my extra long van.

On arrival I was warmly greeted and shown to my Studio room. The room was spotlessly clean with a comfortable king bed, bathroom with walk in power shower and it’s own kitchen area with fridge, oven, microwave, kettle and associated crockery, cutlery and drinking glasses. There was also a small dining table with 2 chairs, a sofa and tv. Also in the room was a fan, hairdryer and iron and ironing board.

Whilst I didn’t use the kitchen area and/or the other items had I stayed more than one night or arrived earlier I probably would have.

Although my room overlooked a fairly busy road a good night sleep followed although I suspect in the summer you might not be able to sleep with the windows open.

Come morning, although I hadn’t booked the hostess was more than happy to fit me in for breakfast with a small but suitable selection of cereal, toast, juice and hot offerings. (Cooked to order). The breakfast food I ordered was hot and cooked well. Perfect to start the day.

I established that they do evening meals too if residents don’t want to use the kitchen facilities in their room with the menu I saw offering typical “pub grub” offerings (steak, burgers, scampi, fish pie, lasagne etc) at very reasonable prices. They are also licensed so you can have a glass of something chilled with your meal (or without eating ) should you wish.

Many of my previous reviews question if I would stay here again if on business this way or if I’d stay with my wife on a non business visit and the answer to both would be yes!

It was a lovely find and I hope that either work or holiday finds me in this area sometime soon so I can stay again. If I do, I’ll endeavour to arrive earlier and stay longer!

We stayed here for three nights end of July/start of August. We needed a dog friendly location close to a family event in Angersleigh. The Blackbird Inn suited out needs very well. We especially enjoyed the breakfast, with plenty of choice and with the best bacon, perfectly cooked! Wish we had been able to sample the evening menu too..
The owners were kind enough to make us a packed breakfast as we had to leave early on our day of departure and thoughtfully tumble dried a pair of shorts that we had been trying to dry on the room. Busy location on the A38, but fine with windows closed. Lovely private garden for guest use.

The restaurant and food was wonderful and the chef was super friendly and helpful in finding gluten free options for my daughter and me.
When we were looking at cereals and breakfasts she helped us ensure it was safe.
Her husband who was front of house started off a bit standoff-ish but warmed up quite quickly.

Unfortunately the upstairs is in need of a complete renovation. The wallpaper is falling off the walls under the window in the room we had. It is very dated, The shower leaked and the en-suite wasn't completely finished with woodwork missing, The carpet is old and the rooms smell of old cigarette smoke.
We were also in a room at the front of the B&B and the handles were loose so it didn't keep out the busy road noise.

Easy to locate just off the A38. Our room overlooked the main road, but most traffic noise was muffled by the double glazing, and by "bedtime" the traffic was virtually nil.
We enjoyed a very pleasant dinner and breakfast.
Mine host and his partner were very hospitable and made our stay more than pleasant.
This is a lovely place to stay en route to Plymouth and the ferries.
As would be expected from a building dating back to 1773 it had certain quirks as to be expected by such an old building.
Good wifi and generally highly recommended.

This is a fantastic place to stay with the warmest of welcomes, great early evening food (nothing too much trouble) and a good range of very well priced drinks. It’s on the main road and the walls are a bit thin but honestly what do you expect for the price. Can’t wait to come back (might have to find an excuse to do so!)

We stayed nearby on our way to Cornwall and had drinks and evening meal and then went back for breakfast in the morning. The Blackbird is run by a very nice couple and it is a warm and inviting inn. There was a nice atmosphere for dinner and the food was very enjoyable. Not an overly complicated menu but all the favourites and well presented. There is a really nice bar with some great beers etc. Breakfast in the morning was very nice and we will certainly return for a stopover when travelling to Cornwall on a work night. The other thing that we noted was that we heard a number of people say they stayed regularly and that they would be back again next time!

We stayed here for family reunion activities in Barnstaple and Taunton. It's a lovely former pub with updated, ensuite rooms. We enjoyed Studio 1 on the ground floor. Traffic is quiet overnight. Parking is free and the cooked breakfast has everything you'd want to order. The owners are lovely friendly people with suggestions for walks in the surrounding area.

We had a lovely stay. We were made very welcome and nothing was a problem if we asked for anything additional.
The breakfast is amazing, fresh cooked local produce.
The room (6) was very spacious. A really comfortable bed and good bed linen. Draws and a wardrobe. My wife could have done with a small dressing table imfront of the mirror.
The toilet and shower room were in need of updating and an overall of the lay out as it was cramped (For a big ex rugby lad) but we were told that renovations are going to be happening soon so we would gladly stay here again.
All in all a great location for getting a out the local area. Plenty of parking lovely views to the back of the property.
