Booked through Travel Republic but that’s another story! We visited during the Coronavirus period and didn’t know really what to expect. Got to the hotel mid afternoon just in time to get a bite to eat - all very English, chips with everything, and was told no restaurant in the evening due to low occupancy , only about 40% to normal. Still they provide a free taxi at 11, 2pm 4pm 7 and 8pm with pick ups at the same time as drop off down to Skala village about 3km away (you wouldn’t want to walk it). Staff (Mr Costas and family) are lovely and helpful and practiced social distancing and face covering meticulously, probably why so low level of virus in Greece. Room was clean but no way 4 star. We were self catering but little in the way of utensils which made cooking difficult. Only had 2 electric rings a microwave fridge and sink but made the best of it. The air conditioning was set to 16 degrees and made a bit of a racket but gave some relief from the daytime temperatures. Bar drinks were average price for the area with a good selection of spirits etc willingly served by Demetrius. Breakfast was varied from fried eggs to water melon all served with a smile by a very hard working Maikis.
I think we were lucky to come high season but have low season crowds this made restaurants easy to get in as tables always available. If you come here only have the little fish as bigger varieties are frozen imported, most restaurants do sardines and anchovies which are delicious. The town is great, no one being sick no clubs no pushy PAs but yet young old and middle aged mix well. Water is crystal clear, but little in the way of underwater life just like most of the Mediterranean, just take a trip to Zante from Porus sit back and enjoy the ride - well worth the 40euro.
All in all a great relaxing holiday surprisingly and would come back again

We have just returned from our holiday to hotel asteris. We firstly wanted to thank all of the staff for making our experience so relaxed and enjoyable, from the moment of arriving we were made to feel welcome and happy in our surroundings.

We moved rooms to a seaview room after several days and were really happy with the room, there was nothing wrong with our previous room we just requested a seaview as my husband loves photography. The room was cleaned daily as well as replenished towels and toiletry minis which was a nice touch. The food deserves a special mention, we stayed half board and there was a nice selection of pastries, bacon, egg, traditional Greek delicacies as well as meats, cheeses and fruit for breakfast. Evening meals were a set menu that changed slightly each evening; the food was amazing, we couldn’t believe the size of the portions! Special mention of the meatballs, Greek salad and king prawns in tomato sauce! My husband also thoroughly enjoyed the choice of meats available with a special of the day also on offer. The pool area was well maintained, again very clean with a great lunch time menu at really reasonable prices for drinks too. The views from the terrace are again fabulous- if you are looking for a family run hotel away from the bustle of skala centre this is for you- peace and quiet. We loved our stay here having travelled worldwide we would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and family. Thank you hotel asteris for a wonderful holiday!

We have just returned from our 4th visit to this lovely hotel. The reason we keep going back is we love the location, looking down to Skala, the rooms have wonderful sea views. Its very relaxing to sit on the balcony with birds singing and goat bells ringing quietly in the distance. The rooms are very clean with air con and cleaned every day. The hotel grounds are full of beautiful colourful bushes and fruit trees. We normally hire a car but it is no problem if you don't there is a complimentary bus shuttle into Skala and a taxi back is 7 euros. The hotel bar is very well stocked and the lovely Irene is friendly and nothing too much trouble. The food is very nice and a good choice. There are some great beaches is Skala but you need sea shoes as once you get to the end of the sand to go into the sea it is all pebbles, or you can stay by the hotel pool all day where you can eat and drink. We didn't leave the hotel for our flight home until 4pm and they very kindly let us have the room until we left, this enabled us to sit around the pool and have a shower before we had to leave. I guess this may not always be possible but what a lovely gesture and one of the reasons we will be going back.

My wife and I stayed in July 2022. We had one of the new rooms with an absolutely outstanding view across the sea and along the coast road to Skala. Our room was fresh, light and comfortable.

The AC was excellent and very easy to control although when you left the room it switched off meaning when you got back from a day out it would take some time to get down to a comfortable temperature for sleeping.

Comfy bed, nice size, we slept very well, the fridge was cold and the bathroom super modern. We had a good sized balcony big enough for the two of us to sit out with a drink and listen to the cicadas.

The hotel itself is well laid out, there is a great pool, the bar is excellent and the staff are super friendly. We ate twice at the restaurant in the evening and had two enjoyable and good value meals.

We had a car so getting into Skala and around the island was easy, without that it could be tricky but the shuttle bus to town works well and cheap taxi back is easy to find.

Now some less happy things...

Breakfast was ok but the coffee machine was always running out of milk and if you didn't get down early sometimes the choice was a little limited, early risers are rewarded.

Our super-modern zero entry shower had poor drainage so we had floods into the bedroom every time we used it. This meant we saturated the bath mat every day and also the towels would be soggy...leading to the next point

On our first morning, we returned from breakfast to find the room fully serviced, fresh towels, floors mopped etc. That never happened again. Instead we were subjected to a day when nothing was done, bed unmade, some days when the bed was made but no towel change, other days when linen/towels was left on our bed to sort out for ourselves. We asked at reception only to be told that full servicing was done every three days. That was never our experience nor was that notified anywhere in the room or in brochure, and there was no room guide.
We worked round it and took pool towels to top up our room when needed. We never had new tea/coffee added nor did we get any more shower gel/shampoo etc. This felt "3 star" at best.

You might ask why we didn't complain again... well the owner is pretty grumpy and didn't seem happy that we had asked at all, we got a very gruff response to a simple question so we didn't bother. That's a shame because everyone else was lovely but it has really put us off returning again.

So in summary, nice hotel, beautiful views, great location, I would have rated it as a 4 but for the owner's bad attitude and the randomness of the room servicing, it felt like self-catering at times! For these reasons we won't return.

We arrived here on September 16th early afternoon and received a warm and friendly welcome at reception. We were staying just as you enter the hotel grounds in a beautiful large apartment (room 112). It had a kitchen/dining area, a lovely large bathroom, a bedroom with a huge superking bed, tv, wardrobe and dressing table and a second bedroom with another wardrobe and 2 sofas which could be slept on if needed. Both rooms had patio doors leading out to a massive outside terrace overlooking the sea! Air conditioning was in both bedrooms too.
I’m aware that some rooms have been updated but this one hadn’t yet it was extremely comfortable and had maid service and towels changed every day!
It was close to the main building where the bar area is close to the pool, it has breathtaking views of the sea and was a perfect setting to eat or drink.
The food in the hotel is absolutely gorgeous so we chose to eat there a lot. The bar staff and waitress (Irene I) were extremely hard working and nothing was too much trouble.. the same applies to the owner kostas who runs the shuttle service from the hotel into skala and back several times a day free of charge. It’s quite a way out of skala but in my opinion that adds to its charm!
Pool towels are available from reception free of charge and can be changed each day.
The hotel has free Wi-Fi which worked adequately.
We hired a car for 4 days which is definitely the best way to see this beautiful island. We got it from “Different” car hire which I would definitely recommend too. There are many petrol stations where staff put the petrol in for you.
This hotel was fantastic and definitely appealing to an older clientele (there isn’t much for children here, which again , was a bonus for us).
I would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again 😎🇬🇷

We had enjoyed a very lovely stay @ Asteris hotel. Scala has been a very good choice cause of its fantastic beaches despite located in the far south of the island away from many attractive spots. The location of the hotel was good and almost ideal if you have a car otherwise you need to use the scheduled shuttle or a 6 euro cab ride to access the town (takes only few minutes). All the facilities are available: spacious & clean rooms (we had the superior studio sea view), a very good breakfast buffet, swimming pool area with a fantastic view on the sea and a great pool bar. The best part is about the amazing team who are managing the hotel, it’s a family run hotel and the 2 ladies in charge, Anastasia & Marita, were going above and beyond all day to please every guest. (At one occasion, one of the night staff (john) offered to give us a ride to the town by his own car as there was cab available that evening and refused to accept any money!). If you are fussy, you would find some flaws here and there, the most of all is the poor network coverage. The very kind and friendly hospitality however (together with great sea view and the reasonable price), will for sure make up for any defects. Thank you to all the team for making our stay enjoyable. 

The hotel has a classy look and feel. I was in a very large double studio room overlooking the stunning day and night time panoramic views over the coast to Scala beach.

Rooms are cleaned (each day) and in great condition as per pictures. You'll have abundant towels/ towel changes and free pool towels. There is inclusive air conditioning and safe in the room.
There was work being carried out on new black on my first day. After that it was quiet.

Lots of flowers, bird life and butterflies and other insects in vicinity. House martins do nest on site and amazing to see them swooping about.

Other guests are very friendly and talkative. there were several returning couples.

Breakfast is an excellent buffet inc. full English, fresh fruit and continental selections. There is a good varied continental/ Greek a la carte/ 3 course menu in the evenings.
Reception service was efficient.

Be aware that there was no entertainment in the hotel (as of early June 2022), so top tip would be to get the free 7pm or 8pm shuttle bus into Scala in the evening. You'll be faced with a €7 taxi fare to return each evening which if fine if you can share. there is entertainment at the very large hotel immediately next door. Sadly only found this out half way through my stay. Guests from the Asteris are welcome to go next door to enjoy the entertainment.

Similarly the last free shuttle back from the beach will be mid afternoon/ 2pm so get an earlier shuttle to Scala.

I'd highly recommend this hotel for a quiet family or couples break.

If I travel independently to this island in future I'd likely stay in or walking distance to a main resort centre. I felt cut off here with no car. Thus, 3 due to the location and lack of entertainment. Would have given 4 Star (Very Good).

I loved this hotel. I arrived with two other people at ten o'clock in the evening, we were taken to the restaurant area and were given a choice of dishes, all of which were enjoyed. My room was upstairs, I was taken there after The walk into town is quite long, the timing depends of course on your pace. There is a supermarket near the bottom of the hill, the centre of the town takes a bit longer but it's a pleasant walk passing the archaeological site and a very small church. The beach in the centre of Skala is lovely, very peaceful. There are some decent restaurants, a group of us had dinner a couple of times at the Manor House.the meal, my suitcase taken up for me and I was shown the mosquito screen which could be pulled across the open balcony door and the shutter which could be pulled down to block out the light. My room was very large and had a kitchenette at one end. In the morning I could see the sea across the roof of the main building. As a woman on her own I was happy to be near the reception although I never felt unsafe anywhere on the premises. It was a really relaxed and friendly environment.

The pool area is beautifully kept and has stunning views across the sea and down to Skala town. The food in the hotel is excellent, particularly the fish. The staff are what makes this such a lovely hotel, particularly Harriet who looked after us at breakfast and lunch, and Walid who did so in the evenings. The friendly bar staff and the lovely ladies on reception also helped to make the holiday special, everyone was so helpful.

The shuttle bus is very useful for going into Skala, if you want transport back at times when it's not running a taxi costs €8. The walk into town is quite long, the timing depends of course on your pace. There is a supermarket near the bottom of the hill, the centre of the town takes a bit longer but it's a pleasant walk passing the archaeological site and a very small church. The walk back uphill to the hotel in the heat of the day is only for the brave! The beach in the centre of Skala is lovely, very peaceful. There are some decent restaurants, a group of us had dinner a couple of times at the Manor House.

I've never before been to a hotel where the owners came to wave their guests goodbye on leaving, they were so kind. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for approximately 6 days and words cannot describe my experience! Where do I begin? If you're thinking twice about booking with Asteris Hotel please go ahead with your reservation! We've stayed at many hotels abroad and no other place has made us feel welcomed, safe and free as the way the staff at Asteris Hotel made us feel. From when we got in, the hotel could not find our reservation as the holiday company failed to send over the reservation to them. Instead of letting us stand around like bunch of losers, they offered us a free drink at the bar which was needed as Kefalonia is absolutely pipping hot during the month of August. After that, they kept on apologising and working tirelessly to find our reservation. Spyros took us to a room which they had available. After we settled they had informed us and told us we were fine. We stayed in a standard room with garden view which was incredibly spacious! Comfortable bed and clean to the T! We decided we would like to upgrade to a seasviee room which was the icing on the cake! During our stay we were assisted with any issues we had in regards to tourism. On the last day, our flight was at 9pm. The hotel allowed us to stay and use all amenities until we were ready to leave. This family run hotel left a mark on my existence and I can only be thankful for their hospitality. I'd like to give a special thank to Spyros who welcomed us and worked tirelessly to find our reservation. Special thank to the hotel bar staff including Stelios and Irene who were always there when we needed them, helpful as they can be. Massive thanks to Marita who went our of her way to find us a cheap covid test centre and helping us with anything we pretty much needed, making phones calls for us, googling stuff we did not understand from the local language. Big thanks to the owner Costas who put together this amazing team of friendly, kind and loving individuals. We are definitely coming back! Thank you, thank you and thank you again guys, I found no faults in my stay. May God bless you all

We visited this family run hotel for a short 5 day break, we booked direct with the hotel & the communication was excellent prior to our arrival. They booked a taxi for us which was waiting at the airport on arrival. We had a two bedroom apartment with a small kitchen, bathroom, balcony & fabulous sea views. The apartment was clean and was tidied each day during our stay.

The pool area is fabulous with great views of the sea, plenty of beds & parasols, good pool side snack menu & a bar serving drinks, coffees, ice creams etc. The hotel provides pool side towels for you to use everyday.

Breakfast was buffet style & plentiful-there were cooked breakfast options, cereals, toast, pastries, meat & cheese, fruit & yoghurt. Tea, coffee & orange juice. The breakfast bar was replenished regularly throughout the 2 hour breakfast slot.

They operate a free shuttle bus in to Skala several times a day but it does get busy so book the day before. It doesn’t run between 1400 & 1900 hours though and the last bus back is 2200. The walk into Skala would be about 30/40 minutes.

What really makes this hotel is the staff, nothing was too much trouble, they were all polite, friendly & welcoming.

We had a late flight home, we were able to keep our room until 1200 but then they stored our bags for us & we used the pool all afternoon finishing off with them providing fresh towels & use of a shower in the basement before we left for the airport which was really handy.

My only criticism would be that our room towels were not changed during our 4 night stay.

Would definitely return.

Hi. There isn't really a shop nearby, as the hotel is set on a headland about 2 1/2 miles outside of the town of Skala. However there is a Supermarket at about 1 1/2 miles. The owner, Kostas, does a number of minibus runs through the day into Skala for free. I have always had either a motorbike or a car when staying on Kefalonia, as this beautiful and mountainous island just has so much more to offer. There are so many returners at Asteris, that has to tell you something!
