Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mutu Village felt like a home away from home, but in the jungle. The treehouse was cozy and the animals added a unique charm. The staff genuinely cared, going the extra mile to plan activities we'd love. That first dinner still lingers in our minds. You're in the wild, so embrace the nature around you. Strong 9/10, would go back in a heartbeat.

We spent just one night here and found it totally charming. A unique and different experience. The room (luxury treehouse style with big outside bathroom) was spotless. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A Sri Lankan evening meal and breakfast were thoughtfully cooked with foreigners in mind. You can ask for chilli or delicious freshly prepared sambol if you need it! We'd like to return if we get the chance.

Of all the hotels We visited during our stay, this was by far the best! Great food, cool location and amazing hosts. Food was superb and it was a real outdoors adventure but with clean rooms and all you need for your stay. Good is Sri Lankan, as you would expect so Go for it and leave your western tastes behind! So much more the owners could do With this place though to elevate it even further. Some Comfier pool loungers would be nice but still recommend 100%.

We, a family of 5 (Kids aged 9,5&4), spent two exciting nights at the Mutu Village. We were welcomed very warmly by the hotel manager Sameera, with whom we already had some great communication thru WhatsApp prior to our arrival. Sameera is an extremely friendly, open-minded person and great to chat with. He and his team took great care of us throughout our stay. We never missed anything and we always felt very welcomed. As we had just climbed the Pidurangala (must-do!) we were all starving. When I asked for the menu the two guys serving us put up a BIG smile and told us that there was no menu and dinner would be a surprise. And in fact, it was a big surprise when we saw the big pots with fried rice, kottu, dhal curry and chicken. It was very delicious and we ate more than we probably should have. Especially, as there was still dessert to come. Breakfast, served in a big basket, was fantastic, too: Egg hoppers, sweet bread, toast, a variety of other local specialities and a fruit platter - more than one could possibly eat. The whole village is in the middle of the jungle with a beautiful, clean pool surrounded by air-conditioned tree houses. Our house was very clean and the mosquito nets over the beds very welcomed by most of the family as there is quite some wildlife going on. The outdoor bathroom was fun, and is to be shared with some other species. We loved our stay here and we highly recommend it for anyone ready for a little adventure. Thank you Sameera and team for being incredible hosts.

We stayed in wonderful treehouse accommodation situated around a lovely swimming pool in nice grounds. The a/c room was clean, with a comfortable bed and ‘outdoor’ bathroom. The food is good here and is Sri Lankan in style, however other options were being served to fussy westerners The staff here arranged a number of trips and experiences for us, including a jeep safari into Kaudulla National Park, a day trip to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa (where you can hire bikes to get around this extensive archeological area) and a dawn bird-watching session on and around the local lake. We even managed to combine a visit to Dambulla Cave Temple into our taxi journey to our next destination. The place has a great laidback vibe with helpful and friendly staff.

Mutu Village was just as I had imagined it! A beautiful village setting in the midst of nature. Trees all around, fish pond at the entrance, cascading waters filling up the swimming pool, hammocks here and there, monkeys jumping from one tree top to another, frogs peeping through the intentional gaps in the open bath area and squirrels scurrying up the wall as one stood under the shower. Fantasy? The experience was a leaf out of a children's storybook. The property is managed by Sami and Daleepa. Both excellent at their jobs, and very friendly. I am glad this was our first stop in Sri Lanka. Couldn't have asked for a better start to shake off the desert sands of Abu Dhabi.

We stayed in the tree house for 3 nights and it was our favorite place we stayed. Clean, beautiful and filled with nature everywhere. The owners were amazing, kind and friendly. They cooked the most delicious breakfast’s and dinners that we chose to eat here every night. I will be sending my traveling friends and family here when they travel to Sri Lanka.

Mutu Village is a lovely experience and the rooms are well constructed in elevated positions in a lush tropical garden. The bathroom is outside so you feel really part of nature as you use it in absolute privacy. It all feels very rustic and there is a lovely pool that we wished we could have had more time to enjoy. The dining area is very characterful, raised up along the side of the pool and covered in jungle vegetation. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the meals were very good local food of which we had more than we could eat........ we found this to be a common feature of our meals in Sri Lanka. The only negative was a very rowdy group from a company in Jaffna who were staying on our first evening and clearly having a great time with loud music and Karaoke. The hotel management apologised and ensured peace was restored by 10pm but this is not the experience you want from a place that puts such emphasis on a relaxing environment. In future the management should ensure all guests respect the peace of their fellow guests. This is the only negative we had with this place which we would very much recommend.
