In terms of accommodation and price these chalets are as good as pretty much anything else available in Cherating and better than some. The kitchen is less well equipped than many in Cherating but there's plenty of cutlery and crockery and a double gas hob, so the basics are covered. Lots of cats who the people here are very nice...

We really liked this place. Nice chalets with a veranda in a well kept garden. The chalets are simple, but with enough space and they have a closet and a nice bed (and a good mosquito net!) which was big enough for us and our little daughter. There’s also airco and wifi. Chalets are close together, also close to the...

Their e-mail isn't working, but when you arrive by bus you can call them. There are very friendly people, willing to show you the firefly, private beach, turtle, night market and other places around. Nice room, nice budget. Go here! There is no atm so take enough money with you.

I've stayed in Payung in all 3 of my visits to Cherating. Generally it is a good place to stay; perfect for budget travellers. Do expect some company when visiting the toilet, not that I mind frogs. Located beside the river, you may rent a kayak. The guesthouse is situated 5 minutes away from the beach and it is in...

Booked a bungalow and made a payment that was authorized through its online website and Paypal.Received a confirmation email about bungalow booking. Unfortunately when we arrived at the hotel after a long drive from the city, the owner informed there is no booking pertaining to this and all bungalows are fully booked, in a rude manner. Furthermore, the landlord informed...

I booked this place for next week and have paid the deposit upfront. I was trying to arrange transport with them and the emails have just ceased. The website is no longer there and the phone doesn't work. I've had to make last minute alternative arrangements as it seems like the place is no longer there.

I come here once a year since 2008 for surfing during the monsoon season. Payung's quaint little chalets has got its ups and downs over the years. Recent stay reflects notable maintenance and hospitality. Place is remarkably clean (check out the louvre windows, even those are clean!) - bare but clean toilets - clean beds with mosquito nettings - towels...

Cherating didn't have the best weather when we went, but Payung did well as a shelter despite how basic it was. Kampung styled chalets with clean towels and sheets, new air-conditioning, mostly functional Wi-Fi and a few boards to rent, the place was cozy and did it for the two of us. Nick who runs the place is a great...

Cerating is generally overpriced, but is a lovely relaxed beach scene without the modern embellishments of high rise and high pressure. Most accommodation is chalet style. At Payung Guesthouse you get clean well run chalets, a companionable atmosphere, and the extraordinarily friendly and helpful Mr Nick. He will organize activities, advise on food and drink, or explain your transport options....
