If bland and boring is your style, stay away. This place has loads of character, as do the mildly arty/bohemian couple who run it. We were still at the breakfast table at 10 am every morning, discussing South Africa before and after apartheid, the Middle East etc with other guests and our hosts. The building is a very old farmhouse, and the breakfast room is all old oak furniture, with a painted fabric picture that looks like a tapestry. Outside is a lovely garden (which you can sit in), with a slightly unkempt wild meadow feel, and the ancient farmhouse as backdrop. The farm (not a working farm) is in a quiet location, off a side road just outside the small town of Crewkerne. We stayed eight nights, and found plenty to keep us busy, visiting all the National Trust and other gardens in south Somerset, and also the Dorset coast from Lyme Regis to Abbotsbury. One day we went as far as Wells (loved the cathedral and Bishops' Palace). We are two ladies, friends not a couple, and we were most pleased with our very large room under the roof of a barn-like structure across the yard from the farmhouse. We had one large and one single bed, with a partition between them. The beds were very comfortable, and the sheets were changed half-way through our stay. The shower packed a punch, much more powerful than its rather old-fashioned appearance. There was a microwave and sink for washing-up cups and plates, so some days we were able to economise with supermarket ready-meals. The nearest restaurant was within easy walking distance just across the road. The food was good, although not very varied. Our breakfast at the farmhouse was excellent, with a good choice of cooked dishes.

Lovely spacious rooms, clean, comfortable beds. Small kitchen area in room with fridge, sink, kettle, assorted teas and coffee. Fresh milk in the fridge. Plant nursery on site, selling home grown herbs, perennials, fabulous gardens to wander through or just sit and enjoy., Hosts, Mary and Mike, super friendly, helpful with advice on things to do, easy going, welcoming, fantastic hosts , really can't recommend this place highly enough. Delicious breakfast. Choice of cooked delights, home made conserves, great coffee, all served up effortlessly, with smiles and good humour. Loved it here. Will definitely return

Family trip and we had the three rooms for three nights. Each room is different: all good, full of character, large fluffy towels, good linen, bathrobes, comfortable beds. Enjoyed the welcome biscuits 😊. Choice of teas along with coffee on the hospitality tray. Mary the owner is very friendly and helpful, lots of recommendations for places to visit and eat. The garden is gorgeous and a pleasure to be in, plus there's a swing. This is a highlight and soothing to wander around. Loved Kune, the old pig. Mike has many a tale to tell and generous with his time, given it must be a busy schedule. Breakfast is good! Informal and friendly place. Great location with lots of local walks too. Fabulous nursery with an excellent range of herbs.

I have just stayed for the third time when visiting my father, and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. It's like a luxury home from home with every little detail catered for. The bed is supremely comfortable, linen and towels top notch, and the most delicious breakfast the following day. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

We really enjoyed our overnight stay in the Lavender Room at Lower Severalls Farmhouse. Mary was so helpful before we arrived and throughout our stay. Lovely spacious room, bathroom, mini fridge, plenty of tea and coffee etc. Very comfortable bed and the most delicious breakfast - either in our room or the garden due to Covid-safe arrangements. Fabulous yogurt and stewed fruit, Dorset cereal and amazing cooked breakfast. We were only away for 24 hours but returned home greatly refreshed. Thank you so much! Great hosts and fabulous place.

Perfect from the moment I arrived, to my departure 4 days later. Mary and Mike were there to greet me and make me welcome. The converted granary was spacious and beautifully furnished. The bathroom had both a shower and a full size bath, the bed was super comfy and generous, ditto the sofa. Each morning I ate breakfast in the ultra-romantic garden..totally dreamy. It felt like stepping back in time, with the white table cloth spread over the large table and Mary and Mike bringing out my choice of delicious breakfast plates. The large garden was at my disposal during the day...plenty of areas to sit to read, doze, chat. A wild flower and herb nursery can be accessed form the garden, too! The surrounding areas have plenty of pubs etc. for good evening meals and there are plenty of options to fill your day (if you can drag yourself away from Lower Severalls!) This is such a find! Can't believe my luck. Thoroughly recommended. I will be back...thanks so much Mary and Mike!

You are very kind, thank you so much for your lovely review. It was brilliant to talk to a fellow gardener and to hear about a quite different part of the country and especially one who thinks our garden is dreamy and romantic! So looking forward to seeing you again.

Lower severalls farm, is such a special place, and is the place that keeps on giving… It’s attached to a quaint garden nursery, which you have access to out of hours during your stay. We couldn’t resist buying some plants. So beautiful. The gardens were of a traditional style, which complemented the beautiful farm house. Stunning! Al covid rules were maintained, and as the weather was so good, we enjoyed eating breakfast outside, enjoying the garden. White tablecloths were laid, along with Mary’s China, and local sourced pottery. All foods were locally sourced, and cooked beautifully. Mike and Mary were amazing, making out stay so much fun. We will certainly return. Thankyou ❤️

Gill, thank you so much for your lovely review. We share the same 'weaknesses', I think, handmade pottery and plants! I am so pleased you were able to take breakfast in the garden, it really is the best place at this time of year. There is so much to do and see in this area, we will make another list of ideas for your next visit!

On arrival I was greeted by Mary and Mike and shown my delightful accommodation. A large, well-appointed room in a converted loft, featuring spacious bedroom and seating areas, as well as a small kitchenette space. Separate bathroom includes both full-size bath and shower. Vases of fresh flowers from the garden added to the individual touch. Did I want breakfast (ordered the evening before) in my room, the conservatory or the garden? The weather was glorious! I was served a delicious breakfast in the romantic 3-acre garden that Mary has developed at her family home. Heaven!! I was able to use the garden during the day; there are a number of chairs and benches dotted around this much-photographed horticultural treat. Perfect for plant lovers (there is even a nursery next door) as Lower Severalls is well positioned for visits to many well-known gardens. Mike and Mary can also recommend local eateries for evening meals. Please don't all book at once...if I need to run away from the pressures of work/life for a few days, this is where I want to be. I have definitely found my 'happy place'. Thank you Mary and Mike for being such great hosts.
