We were specifically looking for a place that offered a luxurious bathroom as well as great accommodation and we were not disappointed. The bathroom itself was amazing, offering a generously sized, centrally positioned bath along with a voluminous shower space behind it. The room was pleasing with attractive bespoke furnishings and bed. Dining there was pleasant with attentive staff and an appealing dinner menu offering an unpretentious bill of fare. The staff at breakfast the next day were also particularly helpful. All in all highly recommended.

What a gem we discovered, wonderfully decorated with big free standing bath, big room tastefully decorated and quiet despite the fact it’s in a busy pub. The restaurant was wonderful with fabulous food and excellent staff, what I found the most unique was the staff who were like a family, they extended such great professional service beyond most 5 star hotels, we stayed 3 days and will be returning. Highly reccomend

I was taken here as a surprise by my new husband on our wedding night and it did not disappoint. The immediate impression was of history. The Victorian/Jacobean feel was very evident. The room was beautiful (No 3) - the aesthetic in keeping with the history but with the facilities working as you would hope in modern times. A huge bed, lovely lighting, good coffee and a choice of teas as well as a big telly in a spacious bedroom were a delight and then we saw the en-suite! A stand alone, double ended tub, again in keeping with the period as well as the back wall taken up with a double shower which feel like monsoon rain when under them. There were a couple of simple repairs to fixtures that needed attention and softer pillows would have been nice, but this was by far outweighed by the good stuff! We decided to eat here as well after scoping out the competition and I was slightly disappointed that the menu was different to the web site menu. Having said that, the food was well cooked and tasty. We slept well despite being on the main road, noise was minimal and we are used to rural nights. Unfortunately, we woke up to find the chef was unwell, so no cooked breakfast on offer. The continental was still available, but we do love our full English! We found a cafe a short distance a way and when we went to pay they said they would charge the Swan, as they had done this before when the Swan were not able to provide their breakfast. This furthered the impression of a quaint English town. I would have no hesitation to go back to Crewkerne and the Crooked Swan.

We were on the top floor, which did mean it was quiet. It was a big room but for people staying more than a few days a wardrobe would have been useful. We were there a week and our clothes stayed in the case. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty to eat. We had porridge, continental breakfast, scrambled egg. Bacon was amazing! The pancakes were delicious too. We had dinner one night, which was very tasty and filling. The staff were very friendly and approachable. Nothing was too much trouble. Parking is restricted near the hotel, however there is a car park a couple of minutes walk for £2.15 a day. Which is very reasonable.

We were expecting a great evening for our party of 8 staying for a long weekend nearby. The reviews were pretty good and we were at first delighted with the friendly atmosphere and a good menu.
Our order was taken for drinks and after 20 minutes these arrived and our food order taken. An hour later we were still waiting for our staters and several of our party had to go to the bar to order more drinks and staff were impossible to find.
Our starters did arrive ( extremely small serving so be aware) and it was a further half an hour later that we were told that they had sold out of one of our orders !
Finally after 2 hours we were served our mains which on the whole were excellent but at no point did the manager apologise or at the very least offer us anything for the poor service and tardiness.
It was not cheap to eat here £100+ a couple and the Manager when we did find him was next to useless.
There are many other pubs in crewkerne and we wished we had stayed in the White Hart which was very friendly and accommodating - we are going to Crewkerne again next year but will give the Crooked Swan a very wide berth.

Visited for dinner bed and breakfast and the dinner was certainly worth 5/5.
Great choice of food with a thoughtfully put together menu and well cooked. I had sardines to start filled by steak - both spot on.
The room, however, was at the front of the hotel and whilst beautifully appointed with twin showers and free standing roll top bath, the road noise was terrible. It wasn’t that hot a night but the room was sweltering so I needed the window open and sadly the traffic noise was very loud last 12. So my tip would be ask for a room at the back.
Breakfast again provided good choices although for some reason someone has thought it a good idea to drizzle icing sugar over the croissants (managing to hit every single one!) meaning your croissant was sweet whether you wanted it or not! 3/5
Lastly I was told on checking out I had paid 40% more for the room having booked through booking.com so make sure you go direct to the hotel!! 1/5
Overall 4/5 seems fair given the food was the main event.

Had a wonderful meal, first since last year. Calamari, Confit Duck, Braised Short Rib of Beef, Cheesecake, all delicious. Everywhere was spotless and staff were all masked up which made us feel safe. Service was very attentive but not overbearing. All in all 100%

Having read the many positive reviews, including The Daily Telegraph critic awarding a score of 4.5, we looked forward to Sunday lunch here and booked a table. For whatever reason the only ale on tap was a milk stout, so we went for the cider. The young waitress who took our food order seemed to struggle with documenting two starters and four entrées. The starters duly arrived and were very nice. There then followed a longish gap. The roast beef and the turkey main courses eventually came, but the menu-advertised stuffing and pigs in blankets were absent. No cranberry sauce was offered, nor were mustard or horse radish for the beef. The two meals of roast lamb did not arrive for another 20 minutes, despite requests for better service. Nor did the stuffing and pigs in blankets, despite the waiter being asked to investigate why they were not on my plate. As for the lamb it remained unaccompanied by mint sauce. While the quality of the food was high the service was about as bad as it gets. Glacially slow, incompetent, amateurish, unhelpful. We didn’t have puddings, didn’t leave a tip and won’t be going back. The owner/manager was, appropriately enough, swanning around, but made no effort to sort out the awful service.

First impression when I walked in was that it was a pub. However the owners will remember me as being the guy who was overnighting with my family and two dogs. The welcome was warm but on being taken to our rooms, we were amazed by the joyful quirkiness of this hotel. I don't want to give any secrets away but the attention to detail is great and the beds are Savoy/Claridges compatible for comfort. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really, really good, meeting some really friendly local people (because we had two big dogs with us). Breakfast was great and everyone we met greeted us with genuine friendliness and kindness. Thanks....we will be back!

As a local to Crewkerne I’ve visited the crooked swan lots of times since the new ownership and had a great time. I’m not sure what’s happened in the last 3 months but it seems the standards have dropped significantly.
The food took an hour to arrive and had very little flavour, just lots of oil and grease. I’m not sure how anybody can get garlic bread wrong but somehow they did…
The service was so-so and the staff themselves were complaining about how long the food was taking to arrive (there were about 5 tables with people at them so not even 25% of their capacity)
While I appreciate that restaurants/pubs have no control over their patrons, the table next to us was filled with “shooters” who had spent the day out killing animals and discussing it in detail, it seems the staff knew them.
As pretty much any other normal human being would, I found this an offensive and disgusting topic - especially to hear over dinner.
All in all, a pretty grim experience, I’d have preferred to cook at home. We didn’t stick around for dessert.
It’s unlikely I’ll return anytime soon after this evening, I’d much rather spend a little more at the nearby Haselbury Mill and be guaranteed decent food and quality service.
Hopefully the owners/staff of the Crooked Swan give this a read over and make some adjustments, but honestly I doubt it.

Dear Alexon, Sorry you had a worse experience on this occasion after so many good ones. Did you write reviews for any of those visits? I cant seem to find them if so. As we are a public house we are open to all, and being in the country we embrace all country sports and we do have game on our menu. We feel it is better to have wild game than many farmed meats where possible. That said, you are always welcome to ask to move tables if you find anything offensive enough to blight your evening as this group clearly have. I'm not sure why you doubt that the owners would read and take on board your review as we pride ourselves on providing the best food and service possible. Feel free to pop in and discuss further any time you like. All best Jules
